Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Treasure of the Magi: A Study of Modern Zoroastrianism The writers of this series of volumes on the variant forms of religious life in India are governed in their work by two impelling motives. I. They endeavour to work in the sincere and sympathetic spirit of science. They desire to understand the perplexingly involved developments of thought and life in India and dis passionately to estimate their value. They recognize the futility of any such attempt to understand and evaluate, unless it is grounded in a thorough historical study of the phenomena investigated. In recognizing this fact they do no more than share what is common ground among all modern students of religion of any repute. But they also believe that it is meces sary to set the practical side of each system in living relation to the beliefs and the literature, and that, in this regard, the close and direct contact which they have each had with Indian religious life ought to prove a source of valuable light. For, until a clear understanding has been gained of the practical influence exerted by the habits of worship, by the practice of the ascetic, devotional, or occult discipline, by the social organization and by the family system, the real impact of the faith Upon the life of the individual and the community cannot be estimated; and, without the advantage of extended personal intercourse, a trustworthy account of the religious experience of a community can scarcely be achieved by even the most careful student. Book Zoroastrianism Ancient and Modern

Download or read book Zoroastrianism Ancient and Modern written by Ervad Phiroze Shapurji Masani and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-02 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Zoroastrianism Ancient and Modern: Comprising a Review of Dr. Dhalla's Book of Zoroastrian Theology The courageous action of that great Parsi, the late lamented Sir Dinshah Dhanjibhai Davar in convincing his colleagues on the board of the Parsi Panchayat Trustees, that Dr. Dhalla's book on Zoroastrian Theology was not worthy of the Trustees support, inasmuch as it was written along heterodox lines that were calculated to injure the deep-rooted religious sentiments of the large majority of his co-religionists, by reason of the doubts and ridicule cast therein on their time-hallowed tenets and practices, aroused great indignation and much recrimination in the tiny camp of so-called Keformers, but gave intense satisfaction to the community at large. It will be a matter of further satisfaction to my co-religionists (barring a handful of misguided Progress(! )-valas) that Ervad Pheroze Shahpoorji Masani, that energetic, enthusiastic and learned Athornan, who has won deserved popularity by his courageous efforts after religious revival and social purity, should have undertaken the task of publishing a detailed reply to the many harmful doctrines and interpretations which Dr. Dhalla has ventilated in that book. It is no doubt true that the ideas embodied in "Zoroastrian Theology" are not in any sense new or original, but are repetitions of what a thimbleful of self-styled reformers(!) have been moving heaven and earth, in season and out of season, to promulgate in the Parsi community; and though the latter, as a whole, has treated such attempts with silent con tempt, and turned a sneering deaf-ear to the fads of the more or less materialistic Sudharavalas, it might be as well to have in print a reply to these oft repeated arguments from one who is well qualified to refute them. Ervad Masani has received high University education and has for nearly twelve years made a study of the Parsi Scriptures in their original languages, the Avesta and Pahlavi. Download or read book A Modern Zoroastrian Classic Reprint written by S. Laing and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-02 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Modern Zoroastrian Polarity is such a word. It sums up what Emer son says in his Essay on Compensation: Polarity, or action and reaction, we meet in every part of Nature; in darkness and light; in the ebb and flow of waters; in male and female; in the inspiration and expiration of plants and animals in the undulations of fluids and of sound; in the centripetal and centrifugal gravity; in electricity, galvanism, and chemical affinity. Super induce Magnetism at one end of a needle, the opposite Magnetism takes place at the other end. If the South attracts, the North repels. An inevitable dualism besets nature, so that each thing is a half, and suggests another to make it whole: as spirit, matter man, woman; odd, even; subjective, objective; in, out; upper, under; motion, rest; yea, nay. Download or read book French Views on Zoroastrianism Classic Reprint written by M. Adolphe Franck and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-05-02 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from French Views on Zoroastrianism Thesis, and in others where repetition of what had been expressed before, interfered with the onward march of the argument. A brief summary of the Avesta doctrines appended in the original to the section here styled the Age of Zoroaster, has been wholly left out; since it hardly starts any new grounds as respects the theory set forth in the chapter on the Persian idea of right. It is to be regretted however that such a rigorous mode of treatment should have excluded a few original remarks of M. Franck's, interspersed in the truncated passages.
