Book Spitama Zarathushtra Classic Reprint

Download or read book Spitama Zarathushtra Classic Reprint written by Jal K. Wadia and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-11-18 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Spitama Zarathushtra Iran during the long Zoroastrian era had seen many ups and downs and on the rich cultural field suffered great losses due to foreign invasions. Of the very early invasions such as that of King Ninus and Queen Semiramis of Assyria (800 B. C. No recorded details furnish us the cultural losses, however, the later Avesta as compared with the early Avesta shows us the intrusions of foreign thoughts. But the Greek and Arab invasions dealt severe death blows to the rich Iranian culture. Daze Napisht and Ganje Spigan were the two big libraries, oneof which was completely destroyed by fire and of the other. All the books and manuscripts were carried to Greece after Alexander's conquest. The Sassanian monarchs later encouraged rewriting of books and thus recovered some of the lost grounds. But after the Arab invasion Zoroastrian litera tures again met heavy destruction. Later, at different periods, books were re-written from the collection of remnants, but much of these were destroyed or lost with the passing of time. It was through various sources that the biographies had been compiled by various modern scholars and so that even this may not be lost, this book is meant to preserve what little we know of this great Prophot of Iran, besides enlightening people. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Parsees: Their History, Manners, Customs, and Religion The author is desirous that his European readers should bear in mind, that the present work is the production of a foreigner, in whose writing any errors of composition may be pardoned, as arising from the circum stances of his birth and position: the want of an idiomatic knowledge of the language in which he writes, may have deprived his pages of all grace of style. He is conscious, however, that he has most rigidly adhered to truth, and should he have succeeded in render ing his narrative clear and intelligible, the object with which he set out will have been fully accomplished. Book Life and Teachings of Zoroaster the Great Persian Vol 2

Download or read book Life and Teachings of Zoroaster the Great Persian Vol 2 written by Loren Harper Whitney and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-26 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Life and Teachings of Zoroaster, the Great Persian, Vol. 2: Including a Comparison of the Persian and Religions I. For more than three thousand years the name of Zoroaster has been known in the world. Yet, during the middle ages Europe was under such a cloud that his name and his precepts faded, almost, from the memory of man. It was known that Persia, until the battle of Marathon (490 B. C.) was master of Western Asia, and the doctrines of Zoroaster were dominant in her realm. But Persia, even as late as three hundred years ago, was, to Europe, almost a sealed book. With the revival of learning, however, inquiry began to be made into her ancient doctrines and their author. Early Greek and Roman writers had made frequent mention of Zoroaster's name, and this stimulated later scholars to know more of him. Travelers in the far East were not then as numerous as to-day; but they kept bringing back word concerning the Persian Holy Book, the Avesta, and, finally, some two hundred years ago, Thomas Hyde, an Englishman, and an Oxford professor and oriental scholar, undertook to write a history of the Persian religion. Download or read book The Teaching of Zarathushtra written by James Hope Moulton and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-10-18 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Teaching of Zarathushtra: Eight Lectures and Addresses Delivered to Parsis in Bombay I find it hard to express the feelings with which I come to address this large and representative meeting of Parsis. My interest in your community began thirty years ago, when as an undergraduate I began the study of the Avesta under my venerated guru, Professor Cowell, Professor of Sanskrit in Cambridge University. That great Orientalist, and great and good man, deserved well of Iranian as well as of Indian studies. It was he who taught his friend Edward Fitz Gerald Persian, and put in his hands that Persian poem of Omar Khaiyyam, which in his interpretation was to pass from the masterpieces of Asia to take its place among the masterpieces of British literature.
