Book excerpt: Chromatographic and Electrophoretic Techniques, Volume II: Zone Electrophoresis, Second Edition presents tried and tested methods of zone electrophoresis, which has been carried out on commercially available apparatus offering many advantages to the majority of laboratories. This book is divided into 14 chapters and begins with a brief introduction to the general principles of zone electrophoresis. The subsequent chapters deal with the principles, instrumentation, and applications of various methods of zone electrophoresis, including low- and high-voltage paper, cellulose-acetate, thin-layer, agar- and starch-gel, and preparative block electrophoresis. The remaining chapters cover other zone electrophoresis methods, such as acrylamide gel, disc, acrylamide flat gel, and continuous electrophoresis. This book is of value to analytical chemists and biologists.

Download or read book Zone Electrophoresis written by Ivor Smith and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 501 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chromatographic & Electrophoretic Techniques, Fourth Edition, Volume II: Zone Electrophoresis presents the methods of zone electrophoresis. This book discusses all the techniques that can be applied routinely. Organized into 17 chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the fundamental principle of zone electrophoresis. This text then examines the apparatus in common use for paper electrophoresis and discusses paper electrophoresis at low voltages. Other chapters describe the apparatus that combines several advantages resulting from high voltage paper electrophoresis and thin-layer chromatography. This book discusses as well the advantages of cellulose acetate membrane filter paper as a supporting medium for zone electrophoresis. The final chapter deals with preparative acrylamide gel electrophoresis on a small scale, which may involve either continuous electrophoretic elution or extraction of the RNA from zones cut out of the gel. This book is a valuable resource for biochemists, clinical chemists, clinicians, technicians, biophysicists, pathologists, and medical researchers.

Book Methods of Protein Separation

Download or read book Methods of Protein Separation written by Nicholas Catsimpoolas and published by Springer. This book was released on 1975 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open-end treatise on methods concerning pro tein separation had its beginning in an American Chemical Society symposium entitled "Con temporary Protein Separation Methods" which was held in Atlantic City, New Jersey in September 1974. The purpose of the symposium-and subse quently of the present work-was to review the available modern techniques and underlying principles för achieving one of the very important tasks of experimental biology, namely the separation and characterization of proteins present in complex biological mixtures. Physicochemical characterization was covered only as related to the parent method of fractionation and there fore involved mostly mass transport processes. Additionally, the presentation of methods for gaining insight into complex interacting protein profiles was considered of paramount importance in the interpretation of separation patterns. Finally, specific categories of proteins (e. g. , chemically modified, deriving from a specific tissue, conjugated to different moieties, etc. ) require meticulous trial and selection and/or modification of existing methodology to carry out the desired separation. In such cases, the gained experience provides valuable guidelines for further experimentation. Although powerful techniques exist today for the separation and related physicochemical characterization of pro teins, many biological fractionation problems require further innovations. It is hoped that the description in the present treatise of some of the available separation tools and their limitations will provide the necessary integrated background for new developments in this area. Book 2D PAGE Sample Preparation and Fractionation

Download or read book 2D PAGE Sample Preparation and Fractionation written by Anton Posch and published by Humana Press. This book was released on 2008-03-19 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents broad coverage of the principles and recent developments of sample preparation and fractionation tools in Expression Proteomics in general and two-dimensional electrophoresis (2-DE) in particular. With its unique capacity to resolve thousands of proteins in a single run, 2-DE is still a fundamental research tool for nearly all protein-related scientific projects.
