Download or read book Examining Young Learners Research and Practice in Assessing the English of School age Learners written by Szilvia Papp and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2018 with total page 859 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The proposed book on child second language (L2) development and assessment will be a state-of-the-art account of what we currently know about how children learn L2s in formal contexts and how that knowledge impacts on the design, development, and evaluation of language assessment products for young learners. The uniqueness of child L2 development within the classroom is highlighted by considering children's L2 needs, typical patterns of development, and the role of instruction and assessment in how children learn. Common issues shared in child L2 acquisition studies, language testing and educational assessment are explored by linking research carried out within the educational, academic and testing communities. Several case studies are described from different educational contexts around the world where teaching and assessment of young language learners takes place. In particular, the book presents the Cambridge English approach to assessing young learners of English and presents a framework for the development, research and validation activities around the Cambridge English suite battery for children.

Book Residential Relocations and their Consequences

Download or read book Residential Relocations and their Consequences written by Philipp M. Lersch and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-12 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Philipp M. Lersch shows that residential relocations may change individuals’ lives for the better but also for the worse depending on their resources, restrictions and contextual conditions. A comparative analysis of English and German panel data reveals that relocations improve the quality of dwellings on average in both countries but improvements strongly depend on life course stages and economic resources of individuals. Only few individuals improve their neighbourhoods when relocating. Conditions in the housing market are important determinants of these changes. Gender inequality persists in the occupational outcomes of relocations in England and West Germany. Due to institutional conditions, residential trajectories in England exhibit more variation and a higher risk of changes for the worse than in Germany. These innovative findings will inspire further research on the consequences of residential relocations.

Book The Movement Environment Rating Scale MOVERS

Download or read book The Movement Environment Rating Scale MOVERS written by Carol Archer and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2023-12-22 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This revised new edition of The Movement Environment Rating Scale (MOVERS) offers a brand-new method of measuring the quality of environment and pedagogy in which young children are encouraged to move and be physically active. As physical development is a key component of an educational curriculum, MOVERS offers practitioners the opportunity to accurately assess the quality of a child’s physical experiences, and the environmental and pedagogical quality of these experiences. The MOVERS is placed firmly in the family of CLIQRS – Curriculum, Leadership and Interaction Quality Rating Scales, which includes the Early Childhood Quality Rating Scale – Emergent Curriculum (ECQRS-EC), the Sustained Shared Thinking and Emotional Well-being Scale (SSTEW) and the Pedagogical Leadership in the Early Years (PLEY) scale, all of which have a similar format to previously mentioned scales, making it easy for educators already familiar with these well-established scales to adopt them and adapt them to their own unique settings. MOVERS has four sub-scales: - curriculum, environment and resources for physical development - pedagogy for physical development - supporting physical activity and critical thinking - parents/carers and staff. This book will be an invaluable tool for research, self-evaluation and improvement, audit and regulation. With additional notes derived using the feedback from extensive use of this resource by practitioners in hundreds of settings and early years specialists around the world, it has also been rigorously updated according to latest research, practice and policy.
