Book You Don t Need a Passport to Move to New Mexico

Download or read book You Don t Need a Passport to Move to New Mexico written by Debora L. Carr and published by Dog Ear Publishing. This book was released on 2009-05 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You Don't Need a Passport to Move to New Mexico By Debora L. Carr When an east coast 'Jersey girl' moves west to her new 'home on the range' in Albuquerque, it does not take long to figure out that 'they do things differently in New Mexico'. She finds she has moved from a state that has perpetually been the butt of comedian's jokes, to a state that is generally not even recognized as such by a large portion of the US population. A compilation of firmly tongue-in-cheek vignettes regarding life in New Mexico as viewed through the eyes of an oftimes bewildered transplanted 'Easterner', the reader is invited on a rollicking ride through a state filled with weird wonders from moss rocks to the 'mummy truck' and populated with a cast of colorful characters such as Tat2 Tammy, the Masked Man of Central Avenue and Jesus on a Harley, to name but a few. Born out of the humorous newsletters Debora wrote and sent to friends and family members 'back east', the book relates tales of crazy drivers, odd customs, and strange roadway sights amid a landscape straight out of a Roadrunner cartoon. All are part of the Land of Enchantment that is known as New Mexico. About the Author Debora Carr was born and raised in the central New Jersey area, graduating from Rutgers University with a BA in Art Education in 1980 and became a successful professional graphic artist and packaging designer. She chose to accompany her parents when they decided to relocate to and retire in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 2003, where she continued her chosen profession of graphic artist, working as a one-person art department for a small print shop. She continued to keep in touch with friends and family members 'back east' by means of periodic humorous newsletters which she called her 'Albu-Quirky Journals' in which she detailed her perspective on life in New Mexico. These collected essays were developed from those early newsletters and are written in a tongue-in-cheek style, emulating those written by two of her favorite authors, James Thurber and Mark Twain. She has a penchant for collecting stories and photos of all things weird, odd and unusual and is delighted to find that her new home state of New Mexico is overflowing with them.

Book Memorial Stones

Download or read book Memorial Stones written by Geni-Deck Jones and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2021-04-12 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is entitled Memorial Stones because it is about remembering what God has done to and provided for my family as we followed His plan for our lives. In the Bible, I saw a chapter where the Israelites were finally able to live in the land promised to their forefathers many years before. As they crossed the river, each tribe was supposed to pick up a rock. Then when they arrived on the land on the other side, they built a memorial place to remember all that God has done in their lives. I wanted this imagery to have impact on this book. It really is filled with memories of my family life over the years. When I was growing up, my mom would invite people, missionaries and preachers, to come to our house, and they would share all their experiences with us in story form. As we live, we see the places where God's answer comes through for us, and I began to repeat these stories. They were awesome to me to see them. They became "stones" of memory for me to repeat. They showed me the places where God was taking care of us in the different events in our lives. The stories I chose were the ones that stayed the longest. There are always things we remember when the whole family comes together. "Do you remember when...?" These are events inside the family. My parents are not with us here anymore, but I wanted to share my stories to those who might be encouraged by the events we have been through in our own lives. My grandchildren love stories, so they can read this book and see all the stories in their grandparents' lives. My faith is life within me. I do what I see is the right thing to do. I followed the Lord in good and bad experiences. I knew He is there. Sometimes, I couldn't see him, but I trusted him because I knew that he said he would never leave me or abandon me.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Trenton Trent Willobee, a semi-truck driver and resident of Oatman, Arizona, who originally hailed from Macon, Georgia, is recruited by federal agents to assist them with the interdiction of drug cartels, gun runners, human smugglers, and Syrian Islamic terrorists who are pouring over the U.S. border at Tijuana, Mexico. As a former Special Forces Soldier (SFS) and trucker, he is uniquely qualified to collect on the ground intelligence for federal agencies, because one of his trucking routes often takes him to Tijuana. As time passed, his involvement grew well beyond the original scope of his expected involvement. He found himself faced with numerous treacherous and dangerous situations from Tijuana to Chihuahua City, Mexico. Interwoven into the action, adventure, and suspense is an account of the 2016 Presidential Election. With all the danger going on in his life, Trent still finds time for a romantic relationship with, Haylee Harper, a waitress at the Olive Hotel Restaurant and Bar in Oatman. He says he doesnt look for trouble, but doesnt run from it, whether at home or on the road. Since he is a big man, 6'4" and 230 pounds, it would seem that he would be intimidating, but rather, he was often underestimated partially because of his unique southern-western drawl, which often confounded those with whom he had contact.
