But does yoga means physical poses? To find the answer we need to understand the definitions of yoga in the ancient texts. These ancient texts are giving a powerful message of yoga which is much deeper than what we understand. Yoga is a word from Sanskrit language which means join, 2 or more things are needed to join. And when 2 or more objects are joined, then it becomes one object. There is connection and harmony between 2 objects which have become one. So yoga is all about oneness, experience of oneness, feeling of harmony. Ashtanga yoga - In Yoga Sutras, Patanjali defines yoga as “Yogah Chitta Vritti Nirodhah” - Chitt – mind, Vritti – functioning of mind, Nirodha –control Yoga is to control the functioning of the mind. We have our thoughts, emotions, feelings and conditionings in the mind. It is very difficult to control. Yoga is the technique to control all these functions of the mind.

Book Mobilizing the Myofascial System

Download or read book Mobilizing the Myofascial System written by Doreen Killens and published by Jessica Kingsley Publishers. This book was released on 2018-10-01 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fascia has become the new buzzword in the field of rehabilitation and movement re-education. Until recently its contribution to musculoskeletal dysfunction had been underestimated. We know now that fascia plays an important role in health, wellbeing and mobility. It transmits the power of the muscles, communicates with the nervous system and serves as a sense organ. Many different groups of professionals are now exploring the world of fascia, as evidenced by the explosion of research in this field. However, many physical therapists are still unfamiliar with fascia and continue to think of it as the 'dead packing material' that is pushed aside during dissections in order to visualize the 'important stuff' like muscles and nerves. Physical therapists with their varied skill-set in manual therapy techniques are well-placed to take on this important tissue. Mobilization of the Myofascial System aims to help them to do that. Mobilization of the Myofascial System (MMS), the technique described in this book, has its origins in manual physical therapy for the articular, muscular and neural systems. Tom Myers' book Anatomy Trains, which examines the myofascial meridians for manual and movement therapists, has been the framework and inspiration for the development of MMS. In this book the author outlines the theory and pathophysiology of fascial dysfunctions. A full description of the MMS assessment and treatment approach is given as well as guidance on ways in which it may be integrated into the other methods normally used by manual therapists. Subsequent chapters offer full descriptions and color photos of the MMS techniques. The chapters are organized into various anatomical regions simply to facilitate learning. These divisions are, of course, artificial, as fascia is a continuum, from the top of the head, down to the toes. Mobilization of the Myofascial System is primarily intended for physical therapists who have been trained in manual therapy, but it will also be valuable for osteopaths, chiropractors, massage therapists, structural integrators and other body workers who are seeking an alternative way to work with this important and fascinating tissue.

Book excerpt: The seminal treatise and guide to Ashtanga yoga by the master of this increasingly popular discipline There is a yoga boom in America, and Sri K. Pattabhi Jois is at the heart of it. One of the great yoga figures of our time, Jois brought Ashtanga yoga to the West a quarter of a century ago and has been the driving force behind its worldwide dissemination. Based on flowing, energetic movement, Ashtanga and the many forms of vinyasa yoga that grow directly out of it--have become the most widespread and influential styles of practice in the United States today. Mala means "garland" in Sanskrit, and Yoga Mala--a "garland of yoga practice"--is Jois's distillation of Ashtanga. He first outlines the ethical principles and philosophy underlying the discipline and explains its important terms and concepts. Next he guides the reader through Ashtanga's versions of the Sun Salutation and its subsequent sequence of forty-two asanas, or poses, precisely describing how to execute each position and what benefits each provides. Brought into English by Eddie Stern, a student of Jois's for twelve years and director of the Patanjali Yoga Shala in New York City, Yoga Mala will be an indispensable handbook for students and teachers of yoga for years to come.

Book Summary of Mark Singleton s Yoga Body

Download or read book Summary of Mark Singleton s Yoga Body written by Everest Media, and published by Everest Media LLC. This book was released on 2022-05-30T22:59:00Z with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Sample Book Insights: #1 The first occurrence of the word yoga itself is in the Kaha Upaniad, which was written in the third century BCE. It describes a six-fold yoga method of yoga, namely breath control, withdrawal of the senses, meditation, placing the concentrated mind, philosophical inquiry, and absorption. #2 The text known as the Bhagavad Gt lays out three paths of yoga, which lead to the knowledge of the supreme person, known as Ka. The first is the path of action, in which one gives up the fruits of one’s actions but continues to be an agent in the world. The second is the path of devotion, in which one’s devotion to Ka swiftly liberates one from worldly suffering. #3 The majority of yoga in India is not focused on the practice of sana, and instead teaches only a few seated postures. Any assertion that transnational postural yoga is part of the dominant orthopraxy of Indian yoga is therefore highly questionable. #4 The techniques and philosophical frameworks of the aiva Tantras form the basis for the teachings of haha yoga, which flourished from the thirteenth century CE and which entered its decline in the eighteenth.
