Book Man of Flesh yet Man of Faith

Download or read book Man of Flesh yet Man of Faith written by Dr. Raymond A Jones and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2014-06-19 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abraham is one of the major characters of the Bible. He is known as a man of faith but there is another side to him that we rarely consider. Although some sceptics deride Abraham he is accepted by, and has relevance for, Arabs, Jews, Christians and Moslems. Four major schools of Religious thought and belief should, therefore, find this book of interest. Abraham was a man who became known as Gods friend. He must not however be thought of as a Super Man for he made mistakes in his life and his mistakes can be used to teach us many things. In this book we will examine Abraham as a real person not through rose tinted spectacles. If Abraham could triumph, and he did, so can we.

Book The For the War Yet to Come

Download or read book The For the War Yet to Come written by Hiba Bou Akar and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2018-09-11 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Through elegant ethnography and nuanced theorization . . . gives us a new way of thinking about violence, development, modernity, and ultimately, the city.” —Ananya Roy, University of California, Los Angeles Beirut is a city divided. Following the Green Line of the civil war, dividing the Christian east and the Muslim west, today hundreds of such lines dissect the city. For the residents of Beirut, urban planning could hold promise: a new spatial order could bring a peaceful future. But with unclear state structures and outsourced public processes, urban planning has instead become a contest between religious-political organizations and profit-seeking developers. Neighborhoods reproduce poverty, displacement, and urban violence. For the War Yet to Come examines urban planning in three neighborhoods of Beirut’s southeastern peripheries, revealing how these areas have been developed into frontiers of a continuing sectarian order. Hiba Bou Akar argues these neighborhoods are arranged, not in the expectation of a bright future, but according to the logic of “the war yet to come”: urban planning plays on fears and differences, rumors of war, and paramilitary strategies to organize everyday life. As she shows, war in times of peace is not fought with tanks, artillery, and rifles, but involves a more mundane territorial contest for land and apartment sales, zoning and planning regulations, and infrastructure projects. Winner of the Anthony Leeds Prize “Upends our conventional notions of center and periphery, of local and transnational, even of war and peace.” —AbdouMaliq Simone, Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity “Fascinating, theoretically astute, and empirically rich.” —Asef Bayat, University of Illinois — Urbana-Champaign “An important contribution.” —Christine Mady, International Journal of Middle East Studies

Book Paris Isn t Dead Yet

Download or read book Paris Isn t Dead Yet written by Cole Stangler and published by Saqi Books. This book was released on 2023-10-03 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Paris of popular imagination is lined with cobblestone streets and stylish cafés, a beacon for fashionistas and well-heeled tourists. But French American journalist Cole Stangler, celebrated for his reporting on Paris and French politics, argues that the beating heart of the City of Light lies elsewhere – in the striving, working-class districts, where residents are now being priced out. Paris Isn't Dead Yet explores the past, present and future of the city through the lens of class conflict, highlighting the outsized role of immigrants in shaping the city's progressive, cosmopolitan and open-minded character – at a time when politics nationwide can feel like they're shifting in the opposite direction. This is the Paris many tourists too often miss: immigrant-heavy districts such as the 18th arrondissement, where crowded street markets still define everyday life. Stangler brings this view of the city to life, combining gripping, street-level reportage, stories of today's working-class Parisians, recent history and a sweeping analysis of the larger forces shaping the city. An eye-opening portrait of one of the world's most vital urban centres, Paris Isn't Dead Yet is a moment of reckoning for how cities everywhere serve us today.

Book It Ain T over Yet

Download or read book It Ain T over Yet written by Dick Grannan and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2010-08-10 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Crossing the North Atlantic Ocean in a small sailboat is no longer a news-grabbing event. Recent advances in navigation and communication equipment, unavailable a few short years ago, have greatly improved sailors chances of survival and success. Nevertheless, the waters of the North Atlantic Ocean still present many different moods and difficultoften extremechallenges. In 1996 three Lake Ontario sailors from TorontoHenk Borsboom, Peter Becker and the author, Dick Grannandecided to accept the challenges of the North Atlantic Ocean on RABASKA (big canoe), a thirty-seven foot Alberg sailboat. The adventure had a huge impact on their lives, and their memories tell fascinating stories of what they experienced on that trip. Many sailors who write about cruising have a chapter about The Storm. Crossing the North Atlantic Ocean in 1996 was not about just one major storm, but a series of them that nearly defeated their spirit and courage. The sailors faced relentless challenges when they crossed the worlds second-largest ocean in a small sailboat. Grannan tells how they worked together as a team, and how the trip enabled them to rearrange their priorities and to get more in touch with their everyday lives.
