Download or read book Bridge Employment written by Carlos-María Alcover and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-04-16 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the long-term trend toward earlier retirement slowing, and the majority of older workers remaining in employment up to and beyond statutory retirement age, it is increasingly important that we understand how to react to these changes. Bridge employment patterns and activities have changed greatly over the past decade, yet there is little information about the benefits of the various different forms this can take, both for employees and employers. This comparative international collection provides the first comprehensive summary of the literature on bridge employment, bringing together experiences from Europe, the United States, Canada, Australia and Japan. It identifies the opportunities, barriers and gaps in knowledge and practice, whilst offering recommendations on how organisations and individuals can cope with future challenges in aging and work. Written by international experts in the field, each chapter also makes substantive and contextualized suggestions for public policy and organizational decision-makers, providing them with a roadmap to implement and integrate bridge employment into policies and practices designed to prolong working life - a priority for workers, organizations and societies in the coming decades. This unique research handbook will be useful to a wide range of readers with an interest in the new concept of bridge employment and the extension of working life, and of interest to researchers and practitioners in organizational behavior, labor market analysis, human resource management, career development/counselling, occupational health, social economy and public policy administration
Download or read book The New Retirementality written by Mitch Anthony and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-01-02 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stop making a living and start making a life with The New Retirementality™ In 2000, when top financial philosopher and bestselling author Mitch Anthony first presented a new way of thinking about retirement, it was novel, and many critics didn't buy into it. Originally written to get the attention of baby boomers, Mitch ended up starting a revolution by showing us that everything we had read about retirement was wrong—we needed a "new retirementality." Fast-forward to today, when most of us are facing a very different retirement: fewer pensions, escalating healthcare costs, and inadequate savings. For many of us, retirement may never happen, or it will take place much later than we expected. Far from being full of doom and gloom, The New Retirementality, Fifth Edition, offers a message of hope, along with a roadmap for navigating the choppy waters of retirement planning. While most books focus on Return on Investment, Mitch shows us that Return on Life™—living the best life possible with the resources we have—is a more fulfilling and achievable approach. New to this edition: The latest research and studies, as well as a discussion of Life-Centered Planning™—a unique approach to financial and retirement planning, focused on individual goals and needs instead of the outmoded one-size-fits-all approach. Explores the role of purpose in retirement planning, including the expanding role of work in retirement, and why it can take three or four tries to get retirement right. Features the New Retirementality Profile, the ROL Index for helping you analyze and reflect on how you are using your money toward improving your life, and worksheets to help you get organized. Filled with engaging anecdotes, practical advice, and inspirational suggestions, this book will motivate you to rethink what retirement means—and put you in a better position to enjoy the new retirementality you deserve.

Download or read book My Teacher Changed My Life written by Lee Armstrong and published by Fulton Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2021-04-15 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has been a very interesting life, both professional and personal. After going to six different high schools (including summer school), I never graduated. My goal in life from an early age was to be an automotive engineer. In my senior year of high school with no chance of graduating, I abandoned that goal. One of my teachers, after hearing of my dreams falling apart, worked with me and got me into a fantastic engineering school without needing to complete high school. This was in 1962. Over the years, I completed my master's level in mechanical, electrical, and systems engineering and in computer science. Almost all of my career was in planning for and developing future technologies of many types. A few years ago, while at a resort in Sint Maarten, I met another couple and the man asked me what I did and turned out that both of us were engineers. He then asked what kind of work I did and with what companies, and when I replied, he practically shouted, "Oh my god, you are that Lee Armstrong! I researched and studied everything I could find that you wrote and did." My first marriage was good at first, but then she started an affair with a man just getting out of prison for murdering his wife. I tried to get her to end it, including moving to a different state. She even said, "Why can't you just share me?" My second wife was incredible (she passed as this was being prepared for printing). After forty years of marriage, I still had a hard, passionate love for her; we were not just a couple. For a long time, my work took me all over the world. She started to come with me, and we would usually spend another week or two as vacation time. I was consulting, so I could work anywhere, even on that tropical beach. Between work and pleasure, for many years, we averaged six months a year away from home, averaged for about fifteen years, going to five different countries each year. 20
