This corrupt union boss, Mike Mulrooney, is trying to shove a contract down my throat, Blatty complains. No damn union's telling me how to run my company. Rossbach reassures Blatty that he can keep the Blatty plant nonunion. If a strike turns violent, Rossbach would rush to court for a quick injunction. Blatty's new law firm will not deter Mulrooney. He's determined to use any means available, legal or illegal, to force Blatty to sign a union contract. He has his own aggressive game plan, his Guernica Project, to break the will of antiunion employers like Blatty. However, will Mulrooney's hardball campaign force Blatty to outsource his production to China? Rossbach meets Deborah Morgan, the union's attorney, at the first bargaining session. He thinks she's beautiful. Rossbach's marriage is crashing, but he knows that nothing can happen between Morgan and him while they are opposing counsel. Then, while Rossbach and Morgan represent their clients during contract negotiations, in courtroom battles, and during a bitter and deadly strike, their relationship changes in ways that neither had anticipated when they first met.

But insurance investigator Hobart Lindsey and homicide officer Marvia Plum soon find themselves enmeshed in a mystery with its roots deep in the tragic events of a past era, as they seek out...THE SEPIA SIREN KILLER! Download or read book Military Trials of War Criminals in the Netherlands East Indies 1946 1949 written by Fred L. Borch and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2017-08-24 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From 1946 to 1949, the Dutch prosecuted more than 1000 Japanese soldiers and civilians for war crimes committed during the occupation of the Netherlands East Indies during World War II. They also prosecuted a small number of Dutch citizens for collaborating with their Japanese occupiers. The war crimes committed by the Japanese against military personnel and civilians in the East Indies were horrific, and included mass murder, murder, torture, mistreatment of prisoners of war, and enforced prostitution. Beginning in 1946, the Dutch convened military tribunals in various locations in the East Indies to hear the evidence of these atrocities and imposed sentences ranging from months and years to death; some 25 percent of those convicted were executed for their crimes. The difficulty arising out of gathering evidence and conducting the trials was exacerbated by the on-going guerrilla war between Dutch authorities and Indonesian revolutionaries and in fact the trials ended abruptly in 1949 when 300 years of Dutch colonial rule ended and Indonesia gained its independence. Until the author began examining and analysing the records of trial from these cases, no English language scholar had published a comprehensive study of these war crimes trials. While the author looks at the war crimes prosecutions of the Japanese in detail this book also breaks new ground in exploring the prosecutions of Dutch citizens alleged to have collaborated with their Japanese occupiers. Anyone with a general interest in World War II and the war in the Pacific, or a specific interest in war crimes and international law, will be interested in this book.

Download or read book Pine Thomas Productions written by David C. Tucker and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2019-08-29 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dubbed "The Dollar Bills," William H. Pine and William C. Thomas made 1940s Hollywood take notice with their B movies for Paramount that gave solid entertainment while cutting costs to the bone. In the 1950s, with television looming, Pine-Thomas Productions began making bigger-budget films with stars including James Cagney and Jane Wyman, and incorporating trends like 3-D. "The public is Hollywood's boss," Pine said, and the company gave moviegoers what they wanted. Written with the assistance of the Pine and Thomas families, this book draws on Thomas' never-published memoir, interviews with colleagues and relatives, and rarely seen photographs to document the story of Pine-Thomas and its founders. An annotated filmography covers their 76 feature films and five shorts. Appendices give biographical sketches of such actors as Robert Lowery, Jean Parker and John Payne, as well as the directors, cinematographers and other crew members who made movies at top speed with more ingenuity than money.
