Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Increasing urban sprawl throughout Western Europe is giving rise to more and more areas characterized by a diffuse urbanization or urban network. In After Sprawl, the Brussels-based firm of Xaveer de Geyter Architects examines this phenomenon by focusing on six such areas: London, England; Randstad, Holland; Brussels-Antwerp-Ghent, Belgium; the Ruhr area, Germany; Zurich-Basle, Switzerland; and the Veneto region, Italy. Their research distills a method for analysing the spatial hallmarks of today's city, replacing old urban strategies with new methodologies appropriate to the new questions being raised by these new types of cities. With a modest batch of projects to their name, Xaveer de Geyter Architects have amassed an international reputation for unpretentious architecture and urban design born of a discerning and radical strategy. De Geyter himself is noted for his longterm practice with OMA, the office of Rem Koolhaas.

Book Celebrating Public Architecture

Download or read book Celebrating Public Architecture written by Florian Heilmeyer and published by Jovis Verlag. This book was released on 2022-01-31 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Spaces in Architecture

Download or read book Spaces in Architecture written by Bert Bielefeld and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2019-04-01 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The design of a building is a complex process in which the architect develops spaces which are defined by a number of different parameters. The most important of these are space requirements, distances, furniture and fittings, and movement zones. From the dimensions of the human body it is possible to derive guide values for these reference sizes that make spaces comfortable to be in and to use. Spaces in Architecture is a useful reference work for students and designers for quickly looking up detailed information on space scenarios that occur in many different types of buildings. For example, the book lists all important dimensions for entrance areas, doors, staircases, ramps, and elevators. On the basis of this fundamental information it is possible to design buildings in terms of function and type.

Book St phane Beel Architect

Download or read book St phane Beel Architect written by Stéphane Beel and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stephane Beel made his surprising debut in 1985 with a house in Zoersel, in which he brilliantly transformed all the details of the site to create an extraordinary home. Since then he has pulled off several similar feats. At Villa M. in Zedelgem, he converted an overgrown farmhouse garden into an inhabitable enclosed structure, and in 1996, he transformed a dairy farm in Eekio, Belgium into an office building. This book includes an essay by Bekaert, a conversation between Beel, Mil de Kooning, and Verschaffel, and a complete list of Beel's work.
