Download or read book Confectionery Packaging Equipment written by Jeffrey H. Hooper and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The machinery about which I am writing is found in the confectionery industry, but it is also generally used throughout the food industry and some other areas that produce items that need to be wrapped and packed for distribution. It just happens that much of my working life was spent in the confectionery industry. Similar machinery operates in the pharmaceutical industry, is used for wrapping and handling books, for wrapping blocks of fuel and for packing tea and other items. Some of the robots described are used in the glass industry, loading drinking glasses direct from hot moulding plants. They are used to load filled bottles into cases in the drinks business or shampoo for chemical manufacturers. Other industries, for example the textile industry, used machinery designed for other purposes (such as weaving), before the development of packaging machines, that worked on comparable principles. Some of the mechanisms in all of this machinery possibly have their ancestry in the great cathedral clock mechanisms from as early as the fifteenth century. Just because this book is mainly illustrated by reference to chocolate bars and sweets does not mean that that is the only application, nor does it lessen the ingenuity applied in the designs of these machines or their importance in the modem world.
Download or read book The Automatic Packaging Machinery Sector in Italy and Germany written by Marco Fortis and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-11-12 with total page 57 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyzes the wrapping and packaging machinery sector in the Emilia/Bologna district in Italy and compares the most recent trends with those in the industry in Schwäbisch Hall and Waiblingen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, which represents a direct rival. In a detailed and original study, the authors trace the evolution of manufacturing in Bologna during a period that witnessed extraordinary growth in automatic wrapping and packaging machines, leading the sector to become a central pillar of Italian mechanical engineering. Similarly, the history of the industry in the Emilia district is described, highlighting the factors that led to its success. A comprehensive comparative analysis of the German and Italian sectors is then performed. Export figures and the trade balance for the sector are examined based on Eurostat data, and the significance of the two districts in terms of global trade is identified with reference to UN data. In addition, the number of companies, sales, and the size of the workforces are thoroughly compared. The book will be of interest to economists and others with an interest in the development and importance of the automatic packaging machinery sector.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finally, a comprehensive book about packaging machinery. The Packaging Machinery Handbook is the first book covering the range of packaging machinery in common use. It includes chapters on filling, capping, labeling, cartoning, inspecting and more. The chapter on packaging line design provides a framework for developing a new packaging line from initial idea to production. More than 120 illustrations allow readers to see inside the machines and what makes them tick. A companion website at www.packmachbook.com includes links to hundreds of videos of these machines in action. The book is designed for the newcomer who wants to learn about machinery, for the package designer who needs to understand how their package will be produced and for the seasoned professional who wants a handy reference. What the experts are saying: Experience is the best teacher. But if you can't wait 10 years and don't want to learn the hard way, read John Henry's Packaging Machinery Handbook Through a fast-moving conversational writing style - from big-picture "here's why it's done" to nitty-gritty "here's how it's done" - John transfers his extensive packaging knowledge nearly as effortlessly as a Vulcan mind-meld. Lisa McTigue Pierce, packaging journalist since 1982 From his wealth of practical experience, John has put together a great resource for anyone who is thinking about buying a piece of packaging machinery or who is engaged in putting together a packaging operation. It will help even the most seasoned veterans avoid some common pitfalls. Larry Luciano, President, Luciano Packaging Technology John Henry's Packaging Machinery Handbook will be the definitive work he day it is published. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Traditional Japanese packaging is an art form that applies sophisticated design and natural aesthetics to simple objects. In this elegant presentation of the baskets, boxes, wrappers, and containers that were used in ordinary, day-to-day life, we are offered a stunning example of a time before mass production. Largely constructed of bamboo, rice straw, hemp twine, paper, and leaves, all of the objects shown here are made from natural materials. Through 221 black-and-white photographs of authentic examples of traditional Japanese packaging—with commentary on the origins, materials, and use of each piece—the items here offer a look into a lost art, while also reminding us of the connection to nature and the human imprint of handwork that was once so alive and vibrant in our everyday lives. This classic book was originally published under the title How to Wrap Five More Eggs in 1975. The eminent American designer George Nelson praised the work featured here, saying, “We have come a long, long way from the kind of thing so beautifully presented in this book. To suit the needs of super mass production, the traditional natural materials are too obstreperous . . . and one by one we have replaced them with the docile, predicable synthetics. . . . What we have gained from these [new] materials and wonderfully complicated processes to make up for the general pollution, rush, crowding, noise, sickness, and slickness is a subject for other forums. But what we have lost for sure is what this book is all about: a once-common sense of fitness in the relationships between hand, material, use, and shape, and above all, a sense of delight in the look and feel of very ordinary, humble things. This book is thus . . . a totally unexpected monument to a culture, a way of life, a universal sensibility carried through all objects down to the smallest, most inconsequential, and ephemeral things.” Now, over thirty years later, this revived classic on the art of traditional Japanese packing may leave us with the same response, and the same appreciation for the natural and utile packaging presented in this book.
