Book The General Model of Working Capital Management

Download or read book The General Model of Working Capital Management written by Rodrigo Zeidan and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-08-18 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book integrates Working Capital Management, Trade Credit, and Supply-Chain Finance in a comprehensive framework, illustrated by dozens of case studies, including a leading case which explains how improved working capital practices have led to over U$1 billion in savings for a large company. The General Model of Working Capital Management consolidates the aspects of these subjects spread across different disciplines, such as finance, accounting, operations, marketing, and more. It includes enough material to make the book accessible to a broad audience, from introductory undergraduate courses to business executives. Offering managerial lessons to optimize companies’ cash flow, case studies run the whole gamut, from the small business owner who cried in an executive class when realizing how bad working capital management almost destroyed his business to the significance of Amazon's and Tesco's negative cash conversion cycle for their expansion. Formal models include the relationship between market power and value extraction through changes in payment terms for consumers and suppliers, in-kind finance, and trade credit with asymmetric competing retailers. The book also explores how just-in-time strategies developed under capital constraints to limit working capital investments; they are more than the search for production efficiency. Finally, the chapter about the greening of supply chains describes how companies that can extract resources from their supply chain or act as trade credit lenders have a crucial role in mitigating climate change.

Book Appraising Poultry Enterprises for Profitability

Download or read book Appraising Poultry Enterprises for Profitability written by and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This manual was originally conceived, designed and written to serve as a decision making tool for investment officers at the International Finance Corporation (IFC) who are responsible for appraising projects. Correct application of the manual will enable the user to conduct preliminary evaluation of the economic and financial feasibility of a prospective integrated broiler operation in a developing country with a five-to-ten working day on-site investigation. Although it has been assumed that in-depth feasibility would be required before the project could be approved and financed, the information compiled through effective application of this manual should be sufficient to make a preliminary decision regarding the viability of a proposed poultry project. The manual details the steps needed to determine the production costs and the fixed asset and working capital requirements of a broiler operation. It includes a section on market analysis and accurate forecasting of market prices and another section on the management of integrated broiler operations. Technical annexes contain specifications of broiler and breeder houses, a summary of production costs and a glossary.

Book Transformation of the Thai broiler industry

Download or read book Transformation of the Thai broiler industry written by Chokesomritpol, Phunjasit and published by Intl Food Policy Res Inst. This book was released on 2018-11-02 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Thai broiler industry is an innovative and successful story of transformation from a traditional “backyard” production system to a fully industrialized agri-industry. It is among the first agricultural products in Thailand that developed into a modern value chain that is fully integrated and able to expand its production to keep prices in check whilst making chicken the go-to source of protein. Highlighted by its expansion into regional and global markets through trades and investments, the success of the industry is largely a result of strong and visionary business models that calculated risks yet were clear on their objectives on how to secure emerging markets. This paper describes the development of the Thai broiler industry, documenting its path and reasons behind its success. Focus is particularly placed on the Thai industry’s leader, Charoen Pokphand Group (C.P.), and its business decisions over the years that enabled the company to gain a foothold in the highly competitive international market for chicken meat.

Book COVID 19 Food System Frailties and Opportunities

Download or read book COVID 19 Food System Frailties and Opportunities written by Claire Kremen and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2023-11-21 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The global coronavirus pandemic is revealing major weaknesses, inequities and system-wide risks in global food systems, giving renewed urgency to foster pathways to greater food system sustainability and resilience. Due to rising unemployment, supply chain disruptions and other responses to the pandemic, such as disruptions to social assistance programs in some countries, predictions suggest a near doubling of food insecurity globally. Nutritional changes are also occurring, as food availability and access changes, leading to substitution of dry, canned or processed foods for healthier, fresh ingredients, for some communities, and the reverse for others. These food security and nutritional changes are likely to be as impactful on human health as the virus itself. As a system-wide shock, the pandemic reveals weaknesses of global supply chains. The media highlighted empty supermarket shelves alongside food dumping in situations where producers locked into disappearing food service outlets were unable to access new markets. Farmers with long-standing reliance on migrant agricultural labor that can no longer travel across international borders under lockdown struggle to access support for the upcoming harvest season. The pandemic highlights well-known inequities for marginalized food systems employees; as essential workers are exposed to greater risks of contracting the virus in food-processing, agricultural and grocery store settings, but have little choice in accepting these conditions in order to keep these low-paying jobs. The pandemic reinforces another well-known food system inequity: marginalized and impoverished minorities often suffer from diet-related diseases (i.e. cardiovascular diseases, diabetes) and/or malnutrition that place them at greater risk of morbidity and mortality from the coronavirus. Lockdowns and border closures are reducing economic opportunities such as day labor and agricultural markets in some regions, such as much of Africa; ensuing risks of food and nutrition insecurity for vast segments of the population threaten to set back development, increase social conflict, and catalyze migration. Finally, the current pandemic shines a spotlight on the systemic risk of infectious diseases to emerge and become globalized through local bushmeat markets and international wildlife trade, and how wildlife hunting and trade is influenced by land use changes, including by industrial agriculture. At the same time, adaptive responses to the coronavirus illustrate how more resilient and sustainable food systems could evolve going forward. To avoid supply chain disruptions, communities are increasing their reliance on local food systems, including an increase in urban gardening and community-supported agriculture programs. Small-scale farmers are innovating to connect with buyers and with each other, including through new online marketing initiatives. Entrepreneurs are identifying foods that would otherwise be wasted and directing them to food banks. Retailers and wholesalers are re-configuring their distribution networks to shift food to where it is needed most. Food pantries, local producers and food businesses are also collaborating with municipal governments to address food security gaps arising from COVID-19 impacts.
