Woman To Woman...We've Been Duped! explores how we, as women, can find such simple pleasures that seem so hard to attain. If you are ready to face the cold hard truth then this is the book for you. We, ladies have been duped! A cruel trick has been played on us and we have fallen for it! Find out how and by whom. The answer may surprise you, but with God's help, we can turn the tables and take charge of ourselves, our lives, and ultimately, our destiny! Author Chrishna Bowe tells us that she has been troubled by the fact that the world has told us a lie-one that creates havoc in our lives and prevents us from becoming the fulfilled women that God has called us to be. That lie or dream or fallacy, whatever you want to call it, is that superwomen exist, and we have been deluded into thinking that we can actually be superwomen! The author has watched as women have practically killed themselves, physically as well as emotionally, trying to keep up with all the different roles they think they have to play-some of them self-imposed, and others imposed upon them. Woman To Woman...We've Been Duped! offers hope to all women who want to live a life of peace, joy and contentment.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jill Elaine Hasday's Intimate Lies and the Law won the Scribes Book Award from the American Society of Legal Writers "for the best work of legal scholarship published during the previous year" and the Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Award for Family and Relationships. Intimacy and deception are often entangled. People deceive to lure someone into a relationship or to keep her there, to drain an intimate's bank account or to use her to acquire government benefits, to control an intimate or to resist domination, or to capture myriad other advantages. No subject is immune from deception in dating, sex, marriage, and family life. Intimates can lie or otherwise intentionally mislead each other about anything and everything. Suppose you discover that an intimate has deceived you and inflicted severe-even life-altering-financial, physical, or emotional harm. After the initial shock and sadness, you might wonder whether the law will help you secure redress. But the legal system refuses to help most people deceived within an intimate relationship. Courts and legislatures have shielded this persistent and pervasive source of injury, routinely denying deceived intimates access to the remedies that are available for deceit in other contexts. Intimate Lies and the Law is the first book that systematically examines deception in intimate relationships and uncovers the hidden body of law governing this duplicity. Hasday argues that the law has placed too much emphasis on protecting intimate deceivers and too little importance on helping the people they deceive. The law can and should do more to recognize, prevent, and redress the injuries that intimate deception can inflict.

Book Beauty Bites Beast

Download or read book Beauty Bites Beast written by Ellen Snortland and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Looks at how family, religion, history, news and entertainment keep women thinking they are defenseless. Snortland contends that women are capable of defending themselves and their loved ones--if they learn how. She argues that is not the female's size, it is her culturally induced ignorance that makes her think she is helpless. Snortland offers a clarion call to all women to wake up and take charge of their own self-defense--both verbal and physical--and celebrates women (and kids) who fought back. --Adapted from publisher description.

Book Survival Math

Download or read book Survival Math written by Mitchell Jackson and published by Scribner. This book was released on 2020-02-04 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “A vibrant memoir of race, violence, family, and manhood…a virtuosic wail of a book” (The Boston Globe), Survival Math calculates how award-winning author Mitchell S. Jackson survived the Portland, Oregon, of his youth. This “spellbinding” (NPR) book explores gangs and guns, near-death experiences, sex work, masculinity, composite fathers, the concept of “hustle,” and the destructive power of addiction—all framed within the story of Mitchell Jackson, his family, and his community. Lauded for its breathtaking pace, its tender portrayals, its stark candor, and its luminous style, Survival Math reveals on every page the searching intellect and originality of its author. The primary narrative, focused on understanding the antecedents of Jackson’s family’s experience, is complemented by survivor files, which feature photographs and riveting short narratives of several of Jackson’s male relatives. “A vulnerable, sobering look at Jackson’s life and beyond, in all its tragedies, burdens, and faults” (San Francisco Chronicle), the sum of Survival Math’s parts is a highly original whole, one that reflects on the exigencies—over generations—that have shaped the lives of so many disenfranchised Americans. “Both poetic and brutally honest” (Salon), Mitchell S. Jackson’s nonfiction debut is as essential as it is beautiful, as real as it is artful, a singular achievement, not to be missed.

Book Women the Family and Freedom

Download or read book Women the Family and Freedom written by Susan G. Bell and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 1983 with total page 588 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book in a two-part collection of 264 primary source documents from the Enlightenment to 1950 chronicling the public debate that raged in Europe and America over the role of women in Western society. The present volume looks at the period from 1750 to 1880. The central issues—motherhood, women's legal position in the family, equality of the sexes, the effect on social stability of women's education and labor—extended to women the struggle by men for personal and political liberty. These issues were political, economic, and religious dynamite. They exploded in debates of philosophers, political theorists, scientists, novelists, and religious and political leaders. This collection emphasizes the debate by juxtaposing prevailing and dissenting points of view at given historical moments (e.g. Madame de Staël vs. Rousseau, Eleanor Marx vs. Pope Leo XIII, Strindberg vs. Ibsen, Simone de Beauvoir vs. Margaret Mead). Each section is preceded by a contextual headnote pinpointing the documents significance. Many of the documents have been translated into English for the first time.
