Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What does evangelism look like at its best? Evangelism can hurt sometimes. Well-meaning Christians who welcome immigrants and refugees and share the gospel with them will often alienate the very people they are trying to serve through cultural misconceptions or insensitivity to their life experiences. In No Longer Strangers, diverse voices lay out a vision for a healthier evangelism that can honor the most vulnerable—many of whom have lived through trauma, oppression, persecution, and the effects of colonialism—while foregrounding the message of the gospel. With perspectives from immigrants and refugees, and pastors and theologians (some of whom are immigrants themselves), this book offers guidance for every church, missional institution, and individual Christian in navigating the power dynamics embedded in differences of culture, race, and language. Every contributor wholeheartedly affirms the goodness and importance of evangelism as part of Christian discipleship while guiding the reader away from the kind of evangelism that hurts, toward the kind of evangelism that heals.

Book The Spirit and Suffering in Luke Acts

Download or read book The Spirit and Suffering in Luke Acts written by Martin W. Mittelstadt and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2004-10-12 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work illuminates the tension between divine empowering and the neglected element of the work of the Spirit in contexts of opposition. This lacuna, not addressed in previous Pentecostal scholarship, is at the heart of Mittelstadt's exegesis. Thus, Jesus not only lives and ministers in the power of the Holy Spirit, but also experiences opposition and persecution as a man of the Spirit. Further, the Lukan Jesus not only transfers the Spirit to his disciples, but also anticipates a similar fate for his followers. Finally, Luke forecasts that this divine enablement of the Spirit, also available for future witnesses, brings with it a similar anticipation of the same rejection and opposition as was experienced by Jesus and the disciples. While Pentecostals owe a debt of gratitude for the pioneering work of Pentecostal scholars, this book furthers their efforts by exploring the implications of Spirit-led witness in Luke-Acts.

Book The Pentecost Experiments The Power to Witness

Download or read book The Pentecost Experiments The Power to Witness written by Antony Hylton and published by . This book was released on 2022-10-04 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The reason for this book being produced at this time is that it is Pentecost 2022 AD (AM 5782) and because I awoke on Friday, June 3rd, 2022 AD, having had a bunch of dreams and thoughts which seemed to indicate to me that I should publish a book speaking about Pentecost at Pentecost. I do not know whether the final publication will indeed receive the title The Pentecost Experiments: The Power to Witness but the title came to me on the same Friday morning. It came from the fact that as an evangelist living in Christ, I have seen the example so of the Spirit filled disciples of the New Testament as patterns and example for us saints who live today, 1992 years after that original Pentecost. For those of you who are not aware among the saints of the Church, Pentecost is the day when the Church was in the time of Christ empowered by the Holy Spirit to go and witness of the Resurrection of the Messiah the Lord Yeshua or of Christ the Lord Jesus. I used to say that Pentecost was the birthday of the Church. I changed my mind about that later on because the New Testament talks about the Church in the Wilderness. I am now of the view that Pentecost was the day the post-resurrection Church community was empowered and sent out from Jerusalem to witness to the resurrection and the glorification of the Lord Jesus Christ. So the term The Pentecost Experiments has arisen out of the fact that I personally have experimented with the impact, especially of the gift of Tongues on my ability to witness for the Lord Jesus Christ.
