Book Secrets of Phoenix Eye Fist Kung Fu

Download or read book Secrets of Phoenix Eye Fist Kung Fu written by Cheong Cheng Leong and published by Tuttle Publishing. This book was released on 2000-09-01 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master the terrifyingly effective Phoenix Eye Fist style of Chinese Kung Fu with this illustrated martial arts guide. The Secrets of Phoenix-Eye Fist Kung-Fu depicts an enormously potent art, also known as Chuka Shaolin, that does not depend on strength or size. Instead, it utilizes a special striking technique, the phoenix-eye fist, aimed at vital points on the opponent's body. Phoenix-Eye Fist Kung-Fu excels at close-range fighting—an area neglected in many other martial arts—and employs a variety of lightning-fast strikes and kicks. Due to its deadly efficacy, there is no sparring in Chuka Shaolin, but instead complex two-person practice forms are employed—both for empty-handed fighting and for fighting with weapons—in which the practitioners fight all-out, and are protected only by a precise knowledge of the form. With hundreds of clear photographs, The Secrets of Phoenix-Eye Fist Kung-Fu reveals: The fundamental techniques of the empty-handed art A complete breakdown of the two-person empty-hand practice forms Detailed instruction in Chuka Shaolin pole fighting, including the practice forms An overview of the other weapons used in Chuka Shaolin, including the sai, the twin knives, the spear, and the farmer's hoe Special forms of Chi Kung designed to increase striking power, increase vitality, and aid in resisting and healing injuries

Book Explosive Combat

Download or read book Explosive Combat written by Alan Lamb and published by Explosive Combat Wing Chun. This book was released on 2002 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wing Chun is one of the most mysterious and effective forms of Kung-Fu ever developed. It's unique training exercises and principles give the practitioner the ability to often overcome larger and stronger opponents, as well as "first-strike" speed. Legend has it that a woman who witnessed a hawk fighting a snake originally developed the system. She observed how the snake evaded the hawk and was always able to strike first by following a linear pattern and using a springing type of energy. Alan Lamb, a Hong Kong-trained instructor of Wing Chun with over 30 years of experience, now brings this unique system into the 21st century, adapting it to today's streets. In this volume, the sequel to Explosive Combat Wing Chun Volume 1, Lamb continues the monumental work he began in the previous book by familiarizing the reader with the ancient principles of Wing Chun in a modern context. Wing Chun was based on the principle of simplicity, and this principle is expressed in the three weaponless forms conventionally taught within this system: Sil Lum Tau, Cham Kiu, and Biu Jee. In these photo-packed pages, Lamb reveals the movements of the three major forms from various angles, giving the reader a textbook as well as a set of guidelines for their proper execution. He then reveals the intent of each form, as well as a multitude of applications. Explosive Combat Wing Chun truly shows you how the secrets of one of feudal China's most ingenious fighting systems can be adapted to the 21st century. Book jacket.

Book Complete Wing Chun

Download or read book Complete Wing Chun written by Robert Chu and published by Tuttle Publishing. This book was released on 2015-11-03 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master the many styles of Wing Chun Kung Fu with this expert martial arts guide. With the fame of Bruce Lee, the conditions in Hong Kong, and the hard work and effort of many of his classmates, the Wing Chun of the late master Yip Man became one of the most well-known and popular Chinese martial arts in the world. Although this gave Wing Chun international recognition, it also led to a lot of misconceptions. Due to a lack of authentic information, many mistakenly came to assume that the renowned Yip Man was the sole inheritor of the style and that his Wing Chun was the lone version of the art. In fact, there are several different and distinct systems of Wing Chun. Unfortunately, over the years most of these systems have remained unseen or unreported to all but a few--until now. Profusely illustrated with over 300 historical photographs, Complete Wing Chun: The Definitive Guide to Wing Chun's History and Traditions presents seldom seen information on a dozen branches of the Wing Chun art. It offers the reader side-by-side comparison of these arts by outlining each system in terms of Wing Chun history, principles, basics, and training methods: Yip Man Wing Chun Yuen Kay-San Wing Chun Kuen Gu Lao Wing Chun Kuen Nanyang Wing Chun Kuen Pan Nam Wing Chun Kuen Pao Fa Lien Wing Chun Kuen Hung Suen Wing Chun Kuen and more!

Book Wing Chun Writings for Advanced Practitioners

Download or read book Wing Chun Writings for Advanced Practitioners written by Michael DeMarco, M.A. and published by Via Media Publishing. This book was released on 2016-09-05 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This particular anthology on wing chun features only two authors: Dr. Joyotpaul Chaudhuri and Master Jeff Webb. Their academic and practical experience bring a rich text for anyone interested in this unique art, famed for its specialized training methods, combative efficiency, and noted associations with Yip Man, Bruce Lee, and the kung fu film industry. Wing chun is a southern Chinese system, so usually terms are written to reflect Cantonese, often using different romanization systems or mixtures of these systems. On top of this hodgepodge, politics among leading wing chun figures have brought preferences for specific spellings to reflect their unique branches in the wing chun evolutionary tree. Because of this, I have not standardized the romanization in this anthology, as it does not greatly effect the reading. In chapter one, Dr. Chaudhuri analyzes the keys to motion in the second empty-hand form of wing chun: the bridge seeking routine. The focus is on the proper maintenance of the body’s central axis and its motions, which helps with developing the foundations for delivering power. In the following chapter, Jeff Webb discusses the structure and body mechanics of punching techniques, plus various training methods employed for developing power. Also, punching strategy is shown as the greatest factor in differentiating these punches from those of other styles. Chaudhuri then analyzes the structure and function of the primary stance in wing chun’s first form (sil lim tao), which instills the relational structure of bone, ligament, joint, tendon, muscle, line and angle, while also teaching the inner virtues of softness, stillness, sinking and emptiness. Two following chapters are by Jeff Webb. The ability to apply martial art techniques at a high rate of speed is essential to overall fighting effectiveness. By looking beyond the physical to the conceptual, he details wing chun’s theories that reveal proper timing to be a significant multiplier. His final piece describes both the fundamental and complex methods of “sticking hands” training in detail. It also explains the rationale and theories behind this method as well as discusses a variety of factors that can either improve or retard the acquisition of tactile reflexes. The final two chapters by Chuadhuri and Webb presents some of their favorite techniques. The content of these chapters explain wing chun rationale and unique fighting methods, plus provides logic and advice to benefit the practitioner.

Book What a Body Can Do

Download or read book What a Body Can Do written by Ben Spatz and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-03-05 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In What a Body Can Do, Ben Spatz develops, for the first time, a rigorous theory of embodied technique as knowledge. He argues that viewing technique as both training and research has much to offer current debates over the role of practice in the university, including the debates around "practice as research." Drawing on critical perspectives from the sociology of knowledge, phenomenology, dance studies, enactive cognition, and other areas, Spatz argues that technique is a major area of historical and ongoing research in physical culture, performing arts, and everyday life.
