Book Around the World Flights

Download or read book Around the World Flights written by Patrick M. Stinson and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2011-08-12 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since Wilbur and Orville Wright's first machine-powered flight, adventurers have pondered the prospect of flying around the world. Though in the early 20th century the idea seemed as plausible as traveling to Mars, aviators made their first attempts in the wake of World War I and have never looked back. This history of around-the-world flights explores the endeavor, starting with the first tentative journeys that allowed changing aircraft en route due to expected breakdowns. Once flying machines demonstrated reliable performance over global distances, a period of one-upmanship emerged, with each new venture striving to outdo the previous one. Today, even with international air travel having become routine, aviators strive to set records, now using unconventional aircraft and fuel sources. Paying tribute to the supporting personnel as well as to the flight captains at the center of attention, this work celebrates aviation's continued spirit of adventure.

Book Equivalent Route Winds for Helicopter Air Routes at Heights of 5 000 10 000 and 18 000 Feet

Download or read book Equivalent Route Winds for Helicopter Air Routes at Heights of 5 000 10 000 and 18 000 Feet written by D. G. Brown and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Equivalent headwinds or equivalent winds are computed using Sawyer's method for approximately 4400 strategic world air routes contained in Volumes I and II. The seasonal mean equivalent wind and its standard deviation and the annual 50-, 75-, and 85- percent reliability equivalent winds are tabulated. Route winds are computed for the 5000-, 10,000-, and 18,000 foot levels. (Author Modified Abstract).

This book was released on 1973 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Equivalent headwinds or equivalent winds are computed using Sawyer's method for approximately 4400 strategic world air routes contained in Volumes I and 2. The seasonal mean equivalent wind and its standard deviation and the annual 50-, 75-, and 85- percent reliability equivalent winds are tabulated. Route winds are computed for the 5000-, 10,000-, and 18,000 foot levels. An IBM 360/65 program was used to compute the equivalent winds. Input data for the program consist, for each level, of a grid composed of the mean vector wind and the standard vector deviation at the intersection of each 5 degrees of latitude with each 10 degrees of longitude between 60 degrees S and 60 degrees N and at the intersection of each 5 degrees of latitude and each 20 degrees of longitude south and north of 60 degrees S and 60 degrees N respectively. In addition to the equivalent winds, great circle distances are computed and tabulated for each route. (Author).

Book Equivalent Winds for North American Air Routes

Download or read book Equivalent Winds for North American Air Routes written by Boeing Company. Transport Division and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Equivalent headwinds or equivalent winds are computed for about 2000 routes over strategic air routes. The seasonal mean equivalent wind and its standard deviation and the annual 50-, 75- and 85-per cent reliability equivalent winds are tabulated. Route winds are computed for the 20,000-, 30,000-, 40,000- and 53,000-foot levels. An IBM 7090 program was used to compute the equivalent winds. (Author).
