Download or read book Winds and Wonders written by Trevor Stubbs and published by Troubador Publishing Ltd. This book was released on 2016-11-10 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winds and Wonders is the third book in the ‘White Gates Adventures’ series. Teenage Abby runs into trouble when she comes up against authoritarian forces in school, as well as in the churches she attends. Impatient Kakko still manages to save her millions of people, but goes through the worst pain she could imagine on the way. Shy Shaun makes a great impact on the football field, but how will it turn out in the game of life off the pitch? And parents Jack and Jalli, and even Nan Matilda, manage some excitement. Returning from her own adventure, Matilda declared: “Kakko, not all adventures involve exploding arms factories, broken limbs, getting yourself on TV and the like. I’ll leave the daring deeds to you. Being there for someone in need is very important – just listening may be all that is required... But, believe me, listening can be very tiring.” “If you say so, Nan,” said Kakko, unconvinced. The ‘White Gates Adventures’ series combines science fiction and fantasy with an appreciation for the beauty of creation – from the insect (Jalli is an entomologist), through the sweep of the rainbow, to the magnificence of a star-studded sky. The characters come to recognise and understand the loving presence of a Creator and Healer at every juncture, as the past, present and future interlace to talk of love and a hope that is beyond the dimensions of space-time. “Being young at heart, but also having had decades of experience as a minister, sucked into some of the most demanding (and horrific) things in life, I try and bring some faith experience into my ‘White Gates Adventures’. My young characters have fun, but they’re not immune to the pain and frustrations of teenage life. They go through the mill – physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually – but they emerge with the hope of knowing that whatever happens, no matter how much it hurts, they are loved by the One who made and treasures them,” says author Trevor.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Selected as a Book of the Year by the Financial Times, the Daily Telegraph and the Spectator "Travel writing in excelsis." -Jan Morris, author of Venice "A thrilling and gorgeous tale, packed with meteorological wonder." -Amy Liptrot, author of The Outrun Nick Hunt sets off on an unlikely quest: to follow four of Europe's winds across the continent. His wind-walks begin on Cross Fell, the highest point of the Pennines, as he chases the roaring Helm - the only named wind in Britain. In southern Europe he follows the Bora - a bitter northerly that blows from Trieste through Slovenia and down the Croatian coast. His hunt for the "snow-eating" Foehn becomes a meandering journey of exhilaration and despair through the Alpine valleys of Switzerland, and his final walk traces an ancient pilgrims' path in the south of France on the trail of the Mistral - the "wind of madness," which animated and tormented Vincent Van Gogh. These are journeys into wild wind, but also into wild landscapes and the people who inhabit them - a cast of meteorologists, storm chasers, mountain men, eccentric wind enthusiasts, sailors and shepherds. Soon Nick finds himself borne along by the very forces he is pursuing, through rain, blizzards, howling gales, and back through time itself. For, where the wild winds are, there are also myths and legends, history and hearsay, science and superstition - and occasionally remote mountain cabins packed with pickles, cured meats and homemade alcohol. Where the Wild Winds Are is a beautiful, unconventional travelogue that makes the invisible visible.
Download or read book World of Wonders written by Aimee Nezhukumatathil and published by Milkweed Editions. This book was released on 2020-09-08 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “A poet celebrates the wonders of nature in a collection of essays that could almost serve as a coming-of-age memoir.” —Kirkus Reviews As a child, Nezhukumatathil called many places home: the grounds of a Kansas mental institution, where her Filipina mother was a doctor; the open skies and tall mountains of Arizona, where she hiked with her Indian father; and the chillier climes of western New York and Ohio. But no matter where she was transplanted—no matter how awkward the fit or forbidding the landscape—she was able to turn to our world’s fierce and funny creatures for guidance. “What the peacock can do,” she tells us, “is remind you of a home you will run away from and run back to all your life.” The axolotl teaches us to smile, even in the face of unkindness; the touch-me-not plant shows us how to shake off unwanted advances; the narwhal demonstrates how to survive in hostile environments. Even in the strange and the unlovely, Nezhukumatathil finds beauty and kinship. For it is this way with wonder: it requires that we are curious enough to look past the distractions in order to fully appreciate the world’s gifts. Warm, lyrical, and gorgeously illustrated by Fumi Nakamura, World of Wonders is a book of sustenance and joy. Download or read book The Wind written by Jeremy Bendik-Keymer and published by punctum books. This book was released on 2018 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Part primer, part parable, part elegy for the depth and decency we sacrifice daily to the order of self-possession, The Wind invites us to enjoy it inventively .... A philosopher coming up against the limits of philosophy's forms of communication ("Philosophy, without being in touch, is always abstract"), Bendik-Keymer courts a thoughtfulness in which wonder practically circumvents theory. Energized by "utopian anger," he invokes the clearing, shaking energies of wind against the violent social rigidities we accept as normal. The wind, impersonal, is the figure through which to keep the dynamic inter-personal in view. ... I admire this book's inventiveness, its willingness to break with discipline in pursuing a wider vision of accountability." (Sarah Gridley, author of "Weather Eye Open" and "Loom") A process begun in Pisa, Italy in April of 2016 during a workshop on political theory in the Anthropocene, The Wind An Unruly Living is a philosophical exercise (askêsis, translated, following Ignatius of Loyola, as "spiritual exercise"). In his exercise, Bendik-Keymer throws to the void: the ideology of self-ownership from a society of possession. By using the Stoic kanôn, the rule of living by phûsis, he follows an element. Unhappily for the Stoic and happily for us, the wind is unruly. A swerve of currents through a social fabric, it's full of holes, all holely. Stretch and stitch as you want, it might settle more shapely tattered into light, but it will never become whole. The wind's only holesome.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I present to my readers another book that talks about the wonders of God in nature. Observing living beings and the laws of physics as well as the chemical elements I can say with certainty that an Almighty being built this universe. The theory of evolution hypothesis must be discarded and derided because there is not the slightest mathematical probability that such perfection exists because of accidental events.Scientists should be ashamed before defending the theory of evolution. In fact, under Satan's rule, deans and scientific bodies do not even allow creationists to be called to university chairs. The secularization of the West has made us ridiculous. As long as this atheistic philosophy persists, we will only delay science and we will only go deeper into the fantasy of cosmic and biological evolution, a veritable house of playing cards. Nothing scientific, just assumptions and philosophical daydreams. In favor of creationism is all the evidence in the universe that indicates a mind that planned all this. The trend is that the Intelligent Design hypothesis will continue to grow. The theory that life on Earth came from alien astronauts does not solve the great riddle of the universe, because the question will always remain: And who created the aliens? So God must be the cause of everything. Someone bigger than infinity and older than eternity is the only plausible explanation for the universe. There is only one answer to explain the universe: God. Skeptics accuse us of being simplistic. That it is very easy to explain the universe by saying that God made it. But that's it. God has left so much evidence that He exists, that He created everything and that He sustains the universe and life by the force of His power, that no one will be able to justify ourselves before Him when we are called to the Judgment. The arrogance of intellectuals does not allow them to agree that simple and illiterate people have reached the conclusion about the first cause of the universe, while they with so much study and measurements wander in vain theories. This book is a simple work in which I make my humble considerations about my beloved Creator whom He gave me the pleasure of seeing him in 1985 for over an hour. But this experience is private, I don't want you to believe me, but I think that all creatures need to believe in the one who made everything. Let's not shame our own intelligences, here's the evidence I expose.
