Book Comparison of Several Methods for Estimating Low speed Stability Derivatives for Two Airplane Configurations

Download or read book Comparison of Several Methods for Estimating Low speed Stability Derivatives for Two Airplane Configurations written by Herman S. Fletcher and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Methods presented in five different publications have been used to estimate the low-speed stability derivatives of two unpowered airplane configurations. One configuration had unswept lifting surfaces, the other configuration was the D-558-II swept-wing research airplane. The results of the computations were compared with each other, with existing wind-tunnel data, and with flight-test data for the D-558-II configuration to assess the relative merits of the methods for estimating derivatives. The results of the study indicated that, in general, for low subsonic speeds, no one text appeared consistently better for estimating all derivatives.

Book Wind tunnel Investigation to Determine the Horizontal and Vertical tail Contributions to the Static Lateral Stability Characteristics of a Complete model Swept wing Configuration at High Subsonic Speeds

Download or read book Wind tunnel Investigation to Determine the Horizontal and Vertical tail Contributions to the Static Lateral Stability Characteristics of a Complete model Swept wing Configuration at High Subsonic Speeds written by James W. Wiggins and published by . This book was released on 1956 with total page 692 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation was conducted in the Langley high-speed 7- by 10-foot tunnel to determine the horizontal- and vertical-tail contributions to the static lateral stability of a complete-model swept-wing configuration at high subsonic speeds. The results indicate that, in a general, Mach number effects within the range studied and wing effects on the tail contribution were small and the overall trends of the data of the present investigation agreed with those which have been established at low speeds.

Book Wind Tunnel Investigation of Effect of Yaw on Lateral stability Characteristics

Download or read book Wind Tunnel Investigation of Effect of Yaw on Lateral stability Characteristics written by Isidore G. Recant and published by . This book was released on 1942 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Combinations of an NACA 23012 tapered wing and a circular fuselage having a wedge-shaped rear were tested in the NACA 7- by 10-foot wind tunnel to determine the effect of wing-fuselage interference on the lateral-stability of wing-fuselage interference on the lateral-stability characteristics. The model configurations represented a high-wing, a mid-wing, and a low-wing monoplane. For each configuration, tests were made with a partial-span split flap neutral and deflected 60 degrees and with and without a vertical tail. Tests of the fuselage alone and of the fuselage with the vertical tail were also made.

Book Summary and Analysis of Horizontal tail Contribution to Longitudinal Stability of Swept wing Airplanes at Low Speeds

Download or read book Summary and Analysis of Horizontal tail Contribution to Longitudinal Stability of Swept wing Airplanes at Low Speeds written by Robert H. Neely and published by . This book was released on 1955 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Available wind-tunnel data on the low-speed horizontal-tail contribution to the static longitudinal stability of high-speed airplane configurations incorporating unswept and sweptback wings are reviewed and analyzed. The characteristics of the flow behind wings and wing-body combinations are described and related to the downwash at specific tail locations for unseparated flow conditions. The effects of variations of tail position, variations of wing plan form and airfoil section, trailing-edge flaps, stall-control devices, and ground interference on the air-flow characteristics and tail contribution are analyzed and demonstrated. The more favorable tail arrangements are emphasized and their application to specific configurations is illustrated. The analysis of the factors affecting the horizontal-tail contribution is, for the most part, descriptive; however, an attempt has been made to summarize certain data by empirical correlation or theoretical means in a form useful for design.
