Book Design Concept Study for a Wind Profile Instrument

Download or read book Design Concept Study for a Wind Profile Instrument written by R. W. Fetter and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 75 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study was made to determine the feasibility of applying the electromagnetic-acoustic (EMAC) probe concept to the remote measurement of low altitude wind profiles. The EMAC probe determines air velocity by measuring the Doppler frequency shift in an electromagnetic wave reflected from an acoustic disturbance propagating in the atmosphere. This measured velocity is composed of the local sound velocity and the component of wind velocity in the direction of acoustic propagation. The velocity of sound can be determined and subtracted, leaving one component of wind velocity. Two such measurements in appropriately different directions can be combined vectorially to give horizontal wind speed and direction. An analysis was made to determine the macimum ranges which might be expected for probes operating in different frequency bands. Several probe configurations were evaluated for their suitability to wind profile measurements, and an error analysis was made to determine the accuracy of each configuration. In each analysis, it was assumed each individual probe would have a maximum error of 0.5 mph in measuring the velocity of the acoustic wave. From investigations to date, this appears to be a reasonable figure for the accuracy expected.

Book Magnetic Field Measurement with Applications to Modern Power Grids

Download or read book Magnetic Field Measurement with Applications to Modern Power Grids written by Qi Huang and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2019-08-22 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive review of the development, challenges and utilisation of magnetic field measurement Magnetic Field Measurement with Applications to Modern Power Grids offers an authoritative review of the development of magnetic field measurement and the application of the technology to the smart grid. The authors, noted experts in the field, present the challenges to the field of magnetics and explore the use of cutting-edge magnetic technology in the development of the smart grid. In addition, the authors discussed the applications of magnetic field measurements in substations, generations systems, transmission systems and distribution systems. The specialized applications of magnetic field measurements in these venues are explored including the typical sensors used, the field strength levels and spectral frequencies involved and the mathematics that are needed to process data measurements. The book presents the complex topic of electromagnetics in clear and understandable terms. Magnetic Field Measurement with Applications to Modern Power Grids offers researchers in the magnetic community a guide to the progress of the smart grid and helps to inspire innovation of magnetic technologies in the smart grid. The technologies of measurement are a bridge between mathematical models and application oriented practice. The book is a guide to that bridge and: Offers a comprehensive review of the development of magnetic field measurement Shows how magnetic field measurement applies to the smart grid Outlines the challenges, trends and needs for future magnetic measurement systems Includes information on the need for levels of standardisation, smart grid applications and innovative sensors Written for researchers in smart grid, power engineers, power grid companies and professionals in the measurement and test industries, Magnetic Field Measurement with Applications to Modern Power Grids is an authoritative guide that offers a clear understanding of the relationship between the magnetic field measurement and power grids.

Book Measurements of Electromagnetic Pulse Propagation in Various Soils

Download or read book Measurements of Electromagnetic Pulse Propagation in Various Soils written by Michael L. Burrows and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Measurements of the propagation velocity and attenuation of 2.5, 5, and 10 nS pulses in various soils with varying water contents have been made by packing the soils into a specially built coaxial line. From the table of results it is also possible to infer qualitatively the amount of pulse dispersion. The soils tested range from pure sand, which is essentially non-dispersive and has low attenuation, through various loams of moderate dispersion and attenuation to the highly-dispersive, highly-attenuating pure clays.
