The alliances he forges to accomplish his own will result in his ultimate downfall and death. Coriolanus is often staged in full theatre productions and has recently been featured as a full-length film under the same title with the leading role played by Ralph Fiennes.

Erne argues that Shakespeare, far from indifferent to his popularity in print, was an interested and complicit witness to his rise as a print-published author. His early plays were mainly comedies and histories, genres he raised to the peak of sophistication and artistry by the end of the sixteenth century. Next he wrote mainly tragedies until about 1608, including Hamlet, King Lear, and Macbeth, considered some of the finest examples in the English language. When the new lord returns home, his mother who is excited by his success convinces him to run or and win one of the consul seats but this creates quite the tension with the former allies as they seek to dethrone him.
