Ikokukai wielded pre-existing mature technologies of many years ago in obtaining advanced nuclear weapons, long-range unmanned submarines, heavyweight torpedos and stealth long-range cruise missiles with full stealth and bypassed the anti-missile system of the United States and destroyed a majority of military forces and all war potentials of the United States at one fell swoop in an instant. The United States still remained unknown about where the attack came from after the event, which led to the total casualties of 60 million and its disintegrating into five nations. Balance of Nuclear Terror among big powers was no longer in existence. Underwater military revolution revealed in this book enables the United States not to enjoy military superiority. The United States needs to seek cooperation with China so as to remedy the fatal flaw in its homeland defense.
Download or read book Faking Liberties written by Jolyon Baraka Thomas and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2019-03-25 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Religious freedom is a founding tenet of the United States, and it has frequently been used to justify policies towards other nations. Such was the case in 1945 when Americans occupied Japan following World War II. Though the Japanese constitution had guaranteed freedom of religion since 1889, the United States declared that protection faulty, and when the occupation ended in 1952, they claimed to have successfully replaced it with “real” religious freedom. Through a fresh analysis of pre-war Japanese law, Jolyon Baraka Thomas demonstrates that the occupiers’ triumphant narrative obscured salient Japanese political debates about religious freedom. Indeed, Thomas reveals that American occupiers also vehemently disagreed about the topic. By reconstructing these vibrant debates, Faking Liberties unsettles any notion of American authorship and imposition of religious freedom. Instead, Thomas shows that, during the Occupation, a dialogue about freedom of religion ensued that constructed a new global set of political norms that continue to form policies today.

Download or read book The Japanese Economy written by David Flath and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2000 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite recent upheavals, Japan remains one of the dominant economic powers at the end of the twentieth century. Yet the Japanese economy is one of the most misunderstood phenomena in the modern world. Conventionally, Japan is presented as the exception to mainstream economic theory: an exception to the standard models of modern economics. This book demolishes that notion, bringing the full analytical power of economic thought to all aspects of the most dramatic economic success story in recent times. David Flath concentrates on four main themes: Japan's economic growth and development Japan's integration with the world economy Government policies and their effects Economic institutions and practices By applying common economic tools such as the Solow growth model, Modigliani's life-cycle model of saving, Becker's theory of investment, Samuelson's theory of revealed preference, Coase's exposition of the problem of social cost, and the modern theory of industrial organization, this book shows the mainstream principles of economics apply in Japan as successfully as they do elsewhere. Aimed at 3rd/4th year undergraduate and graduate courses on Japan, this book will be indispensable both for students and instructors alike. Lucid explanations and comprehensive and rigorous analysis make it a natural choice for any interested in comprehending the rise of the Japanese economy.

Download or read book America s Road to Empire written by Piero Gleijeses and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2021-09-09 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: America's Road to Empire surveys and analyses United States' foreign relations from the country's independence in 1776 until its entry into World War One in 1917, using primary source materials and case studies. The book covers key themes including: - the role that notions of "white superiority" played in US foreign policy - the search for absolute security that repeatedly led the United States to trample on the liberties of other countries; - and the idea of American 'exceptionalism' – the clash between the idealism of US rhetoric and its actions – which has led to a persistent failure to understand how “European” U.S. policy actually was. Whilst providing analytical overview, Piero Gleijeses also uses case studies which examine overlooked aspects of U.S. foreign policy, particularly concerning marginalized populations. He draws on archival U.S. and European primary sources and incorporates the latest research from the US, British, French and Spanish archives, as well as newspapers from the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Spain, and Mexico. A highly original account of the United States' rise to power drawing on multilingual scholarship, this is an important book for all students and scholars of United States foreign relations up to the First World War.
