Download or read book Therapeutic Outcome of Endocrine Disorders written by Brian Stabler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Changes in the allocation of healthcare resources have raised issues related to the efficacy and outcomes of medical therapy and how such factors may be measured. The questions associated with the quality of life and functional capability of patients with chronic health conditions have been of special interest. Endocrine disorders have the potential for disrupting the general health and well-being of affected individuals and their families; thus they warrant serious attention. This symposium was convened in November 1997 at Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, to bring together medical, behavioral, and social scientists. The meeting fostered the presentation and discussion of the most current clinical research on the effects of various therapies on a wide range of endocrine disorders from diabetes to adrenal insufficiency and growth hormone deficiency. The participants, all noted national and international experts in their fields, focused their attention on both the biomedical value and effectiveness of treatment, as well as on the impact such treatments have on psychological states such as mood and cognition. Many presentations specifically emphasized the quality of life (QOL) indicators that now regu larly appear in many research protocols and reports. The pioneering work of two clinical researchers was a major highlight of the meeting and an Award of Recognition was presented to Robert Blizzard, M. D. , and John Money, Ph. D. , for their innovative and insightful work in pediatric endocrinology and psychosexual development.

Download or read book Practical Algorithms in Pediatric Endocrinology written by Z. Hochberg and published by Karger Medical and Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Karger 'Publishing Highlights 1890-2015' title Algorithms provide a logical, concise and cost-effective approach to medical reasoning: utilizing a concise, step-by-step approach based upon clues from the history, physical examination and laboratory studies, algorithms help avoid excessive unnecessary procedures and testing. The 2nd, revised edition of Practical Algorithms in Pediatric Endocrinology deals with practical issues of child growth, puberty, diseases of the endocrine glands, sexual differentiation, as well as aberrations of water, electrolyte, mineral and carbohydrate metabolism. Fifty clinical issues are covered by an algorithmic approach, breaking down long lists and tables of differential diagnosis into smaller, more manageable ones. Common clinical symptoms, signs and laboratory abnormalities are classified as they present themselves at the patient's bedside. This book is aimed at general practitioners and pediatricians, in particular those who are not exposed to pediatric endocrine problems on a daily basis, and at trainees in endocrinology and pediatric endocrinology as they acquire familiarity with clinical problem solving to make rational choices when facing clinical dilemmas.
Download or read book Practical Algorithms in Pediatric Hematology and Oncology written by Richard H. Sills and published by Karger Medical and Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 2003 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the only comprehensive collection of algorithms which exclusively addresses hematologic and oncologic problems affecting neonates, children and adolescents. Examining clinical problems which challenge the pediatrician, general practitioner and family practice physician, each algorithm utilizes a concise, step-by-step approach based upon clues from the history, physical examination and laboratory studies. The algorithms addressing differential diagnosis clearly distinguish between the most common etiologies, those that are less frequent, and finally some that are rare but important to recognize. The 51 topics include evaluation of anemia, sickle cell anemia, thalassemia, hemolytic anemia, the bleeding child, thrombocytopenia and other platelet disorders, hemophilia, leukocyte disorders, leukemias, lymphadenopathy, splenomegaly, approaches to mass lesions in the mediastinum, abdomen, pelvis, bones and soft tissues as well as approaches to potential emergencies such as tumor lysis and superior vena cava syndromes. The oncology topics emphasize diagnostic approach and management of complications, and not the details of chemotherapy. All algorithms are presented with a page of explanatory notes and a list of selected reading. Pediatricians, family physicians and general practitioners will find this book very helpful in managing problems in their practices. Trainees in pediatric hematology will find it a useful tool in developing approaches to solve the problems they will encounter, and pediatric hematologists/oncologists will find it useful as a teaching tool.

Download or read book Pathology of the Female Genital Tract written by A. Blaustein and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 925 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text is written for the obstetrician, gynecologist, pathologist, and for residents training in these disciplines. It is a multi-authored book and the editor is aware of the problems this can create, but the expansion of information in the field of gynecologic pathology renders single au thorship obsolete. The format is largely traditional but the contents in clude topics that have not appeared in past texts. Clear cell adenocarcinoma of the vagina and vaginal and cervical adenoses are discussed in detail in a separate chapter. A chapter on embryology and congenital anomalies is writ ten by an embryologist and the advantage of its inclusion is self evident. Ovarian neoplasms in childhood and ado lescence are fortunately rare occurrences, but information concerning them is generally not readily available in exist ing texts. It is of sufficient importance to deserve a separate chapter. Amniotic fluid analysis for fetal viability is now commonly used and for this reason a detailed discussion of this subject is presented. A chapter is included on gross description and prepara tion of gynecologic specimens. It contains the input and review of several directors of gynecologic-pathology labo ratories.
