Download or read book Wide Bandgap Semiconductors for High Power High Frequency and High Temperature Volume 512 written by Steven Denbaars and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1998-09-01 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wide-bandgap semiconductors have a long and illustrious history, starting with the first paper on SiC light-emitting diodes published in 1907. Since then, interest in wide-bandgap semiconductors has skyrocketed. Improved material quality, important breakthroughs both in SiC and GaN technologies, and the emergence of blue GaN-based lasers, have stimulated this progress. To provide a fairly complete picture of this important field, most of the work presented at the conference is included in the volume. In addition, invited papers present an excellent overview of the current state of the art and offer projections for future developments. Topics include: GaN materials and devices; crystal growth; SiC materials and devices; characterization of wide-bandgap semiconductors; and processing characterization and properties of wide-bandgap materials.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discusses the application of computer-aided and analytical methods and approaches of materials science and engineering mechanics to evaluating and assuring the short-term and long-term reliability of materials and structures in photonics engineering. The main concern is the mechanical reliability of the system and the impact of the mechanical behavior of photonics material and structures on the system's optical performance. The 49 papers cover general problems, strength degradation, fatigue and ageing in the materials, the structural analysis and modelling of the mechanical behavior, high- strength and metallized fibers, performance in harsh environments, and the reliability of devices. Download or read book Silicon Carbide Volume 2 written by Peter Friedrichs and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-04-08 with total page 520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Silicon Carbide - this easy to manufacture compound of silicon and carbon is said to be THE emerging material for applications in electronics. High thermal conductivity, high electric field breakdown strength and high maximum current density make it most promising for high-powered semiconductor devices. Apart from applications in power electronics, sensors, and NEMS, SiC has recently gained new interest as a substrate material for the manufacture of controlled graphene. SiC and graphene research is oriented towards end markets and has high impact on areas of rapidly growing interest like electric vehicles. This volume is devoted to high power devices products and their challenges in industrial application. Readers will benefit from reports on development and reliability aspects of Schottky barrier diodes, advantages of SiC power MOSFETs, or SiC sensors. The authors discuss MEMS and NEMS as SiC-based electronics for automotive industry as well as SiC-based circuit elements for high temperature applications, and the application of transistors in PV-inverters. The list of contributors reads like a "Who's Who" of the SiC community, strongly benefiting from collaborations between research institutions and enterprises active in SiC crystal growth and device development. Among the former are CREE Inc. and Fraunhofer ISE, while the industry is represented by Toshiba, Nissan, Infineon, NASA, Naval Research Lab, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, to name but a few.

Book III V and IV IV Materials and Processing Challenges for Highly Integrated Microelectronics and Optoelectronics Volume 535

Download or read book III V and IV IV Materials and Processing Challenges for Highly Integrated Microelectronics and Optoelectronics Volume 535 written by S. A. Ringel and published by . This book was released on 1999-08-11 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the proceedings of two symposia - 'Integration of Dissimilar Materials in Micro- and Optoelectronics' and 'III-V and SiGe Group IV Device/IC Processing Challenges for Commercial Applications'. The publication stems from the desire to achieve new levels of device functionality and higher levels of performance via integration of devices based on dissimilar semiconductors, where the constraint of lattice-matching on the breadth of attainable devices can be reduced. It covers fundamental topics germane to integration of a wide range of dissimilar materials spanning wide-bandgap III-V nitrides, III-V/Si integration, II-VI and II-VI/III-V compounds, heterovalent structures, oxides, photonic bandgap structures and others. Topics such as compliancy, dislocation control, selective area growth, bonding methodologies, etc. are featured. It also addresses processing issues in the manufacturing of III-V and Si-based heterostructures for commercial products. Here, the success enjoyed by silicon germanium technology is contrasted by the promise of silicon-carbon alloys which have opportunities and challenges for the new generation of process developers.
