Book excerpt: This essay sheds light on who are sigma males, explicates how to become a sigma male, and demystifies the benefits of being a sigma male. Albeit enigmatic to most people, sigma males are a type of male who greatly differ from both alpha males and beta males. Sigma men are disinterested in being apart of a social dominance hierarchy. Sigma men are often deemed to be collected, rational, ambitious, and cerebral men. Sigma men are also pacifistic and peaceful men. Sigma men do not transgress against other people, do not coerce other people, nor attempt to control other people. Sigma men are realists who have come to grips with the realities of life from a tender age. In spite of the challenges of attempting to do so, sigma men are honed in on ameliorating their lives and living productive lives. Sigma men are inapt to capitulate on their ambition to improve their lives and live productive lives. Sigma men are also stoic and resilient men who are capable of surmounting challenges that they encounter in their careers. Sigma men are not immutable people. Sigma men are autodidacts who are capable of learning new information, new competencies, and new skills throughout their lifetime. Sigma men are also capable of growing their knowledge base overtime, increasing their competencies overtime, and expanding their repertoire overtime. Sigma men are also capable of becoming highly knowledgeable, highly competent, and highly adept industry experts in their niche fields of expertise. Sigma men are often creatives, innovators, entrepreneurs, and producers. Sigma men are innately inclined to exude tremendous strategic hard work in an attempt to reach reach worthwhile higher aspirations and worthwhile overarching goals. Sigma men often strive to metaphorically thrust their careers into an upward trajectory. Sigma men do not want to succumb to career stagnation. Sigma men do not want to live unaccomplished lives. Sigma men are eager to live highly accomplished lives even though attempting to do so can bear the cost of them expending hundreds of thousands of hours of strategic hard work in an attempt to reach worthwhile higher aspirations and worthwhile overarching goals. Sigma men live unconventional lives that are a stark contrast to how most people live their lives. Sigma man are acutely aware that most people abstain from working real private sector jobs based on voluntary demand in this controlled market. Since sigma men profusely work real private sector jobs based on voluntary demand, they are outliers relative to most men. Sigma men are amenable to improving their demeanor, disposition, and social skills if doing so can help them to reach worthwhile higher aspirations and worthwhile overarching goals. Sigma men are keen on reaching worthwhile higher aspirations and worthwhile overarching goals in their lifetime. Even though sigma men would prefer to reach worthwhile higher aspirations and worthwhile overarching goals without the aid of other people, they realize that collaborating with other highly knowledgeable, highly competent, and highly adept people can culminate in helping them to reach worthwhile higher aspirations and worthwhile overarching goals in a shorter time span than they otherwise would be able to do so without harnessing the collaboration efforts from other highly knowledgeable, highly competent, and highly adept people. Sigma men have an innate proclivity to be forward-thinking mavericks in their niche fields of expertise. Sigma men do not live their lives to appease other people since doing so would not be conducive to how they prefer to live their lives. Sigma men value having freedom in their careers and do not want to make enormous concessions to appease other people if it comes at the cost of abating their freedom in their careers. Sigma men often live reclusive lives since they often desist from attending social events. Sigma men refrain from following a traditional lifestyle. Sigma men also abstain from entering the dating market, desist forming a long-term relationship with a woman, do not get married, and remain celibate throughout the entirety of their lifetime. By not getting married, sigma men circumvent the risk of having a woman unwarrantedly file for divorce against them without cause. Sigma men staunchly believe that forming a long-term relationship with a woman in the dating market will not yield them any benefits in the long haul.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The editors and contributors to this volume should be justifiably proud of their participation in the tenth triennial meeting of the Chemical Signals in Vertebrates International Symposium. This meeting was held 27 years after the initial gathering of participants in Saratoga Springs, New York from June 6* to 9*, 1976. Subsequent meetings have been held every three years in Syracuse, New York; Sarasota, Florida; Laramie, Wyoming; Oxford, England; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Tubingen, Germany; Ithaca, New York; and Krakow, Poland. This tenth aimiversary symposium was held from July 29* through August 1*' in Corvallis, Oregon and was hosted by the Zoology Department and Biology Programs of Oregon State University. This book also represents the tenth in a series of books on chemical communication, chemical ecology, olfactory and vomeronasal research in vertebrate species. The species covered in the chapters herein range from fish to mammals including humans. By taxonomic breakdown the mammals are the most represented in number of species and chapter contributions. However, the hosts of the meeting endeavored to have some representative contributions covering all of the major vertebrate taxa. As in past years, the meeting was well-represented with just over 100 participants from 13 different nations. Plenary talks focused on some of the non-mammalian groups that have tended to be less represented in these symposia. Thus, we had a very nice overview of comparisons and contrasts of invertebrate chemical commimication to vertebrate systems.

Book Working with Sexual Issues in Psychotherapy

Download or read book Working with Sexual Issues in Psychotherapy written by Desa Markovic and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2017-08-25 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whilst many psychotherapists work skilfully and creatively with the subject of sex, the lack of professional support systems – such as training and supervision – mean that the topic is often still treated as taboo in the psychotherapy room. This secretive treatment may increase clients' feelings of shame and embarrassment, thus mirroring the confusing views on sexuality in society and leading to the onset and development of sexual dysfunctions. Bringing the medical perspective of sexology together with systemic psychotherapy informed by social constructionism, this timely book seeks to fill the gap in psychotherapy literature, research and training by providing a theoretical framework, as well as practical guidance, for effective therapeutic interventions in working with sex and sexual relationships in clinical practice. Exploring topics such as sexual prejudice, the significance of sexual diversity and the assessment and treatment of sexual dysfunctions, enriched with a wealth of engaging case studies, Working with Sexual Issues in Psychotherapy is a fascinating and important read both for students new to this complex topic, and for practitioners looking for a comprehensive source of reference.

Book excerpt: American society has become anti-male. Men are sensing the backlash and are consciously and unconsciously going “on strike.” They are dropping out of college, leaving the workforce and avoiding marriage and fatherhood at alarming rates. The trend is so pronounced that a number of books have been written about this “man-child” phenomenon, concluding that men have taken a vacation from responsibility simply because they can. But why should men participate in a system that seems to be increasingly stacked against them? As Men on Strike demonstrates, men aren’t dropping out because they are stuck in arrested development. They are instead acting rationally in response to the lack of incentives society offers them to be responsible fathers, husbands and providers. In addition, men are going on strike, either consciously or unconsciously, because they do not want to be injured by the myriad of laws, attitudes and hostility against them for the crime of happening to be male in the twenty-first century. Men are starting to fight back against the backlash. Men on Strike explains their battle cry.

Book excerpt: Amoral, cunning, ruthless, and instructive, this multi-million-copy New York Times bestseller is the definitive manual for anyone interested in gaining, observing, or defending against ultimate control – from the author of The Laws of Human Nature. In the book that People magazine proclaimed “beguiling” and “fascinating,” Robert Greene and Joost Elffers have distilled three thousand years of the history of power into 48 essential laws by drawing from the philosophies of Machiavelli, Sun Tzu, and Carl Von Clausewitz and also from the lives of figures ranging from Henry Kissinger to P.T. Barnum. Some laws teach the need for prudence (“Law 1: Never Outshine the Master”), others teach the value of confidence (“Law 28: Enter Action with Boldness”), and many recommend absolute self-preservation (“Law 15: Crush Your Enemy Totally”). Every law, though, has one thing in common: an interest in total domination. In a bold and arresting two-color package, The 48 Laws of Power is ideal whether your aim is conquest, self-defense, or simply to understand the rules of the game.
