Book excerpt: An eclectic collection of pulp, grit and noir stories inspired by the Capital Region of New York, a rust-belt crossroads in the shadow of the city that never sleeps. Here’s a trip led by fat slobs in smoky, vomit-stained cabs, heading to the oasis of the strip club on a street lined with rusted out factories, ventilated with beer cans and rocks. No heroes and villains in these pages, just shades of grey and characters making choices between bad and worse. Tales of woe and macabre, the profane and ordinary dance with each other in a building where the forgotten stay, passing their street whispers like bottles from the bottom shelf.

Book excerpt: A CHRISTIAN SUSPENSE SERIES Gripping. Award-winning. Inspirational. Unputdownable. "Five Stars." - Readers' Favorite. She thought they were a regular family until a 100-year old secret sets a dangerous enemy after them. 2018 First Place Winner, CWRC Readers' Choice Literary Lighthouse Awards. It was bad enough for Violet Zendel that her twin brother hated her and avoided her like a plague because of her faith. When he became the CEO of their parents' company, she did everything she could to support his success. Then she planned a vacation to help bridge the gap between them and improve their relationship. However, when the news about a shocking event reached her ears during the trip, it shook her to her core—and led to a trail of broken hearts. Violet saw no other option but to shift her focus from pursuing corporate achievements, to preserving her family members and their legacy. But that came at a very high cost. And in the process, she is challenged by riskier choices, which demonstrate in dangerous ways, that not everything was as it seemed. Police Officer Angel Martinez was not a stranger to hard work. She had almost single-handedly guided her four siblings into adulthood and did not feel threatened when a murder case landed on her desk. Feeling confident about her ability to solve the murder, little did she know that some cases came with decades-old secrets that could tear apart the peace and unity of those she held dear. Can she solve this case without losing her life and that of her precious family members? Tim Santiago loved his career as an Archeologist. He seldom walked past old things without stopping to admire them, and he yearned for his best friend, Violet, to gain an appreciation for his profession. When events at a funeral unleashed a storm of mysterious phone calls and a dangerous chase, he quickly agreed that some old things were better left buried. But when he suddenly lost someone dear to him—and was close to losing two more—he faced a critical choice about unearthing more secrets. Was he already too late? What will happen to Violet, Angel, and Tim? WHISPER is book Ten of The New Rulebook & Pete Zendel Christian Suspense series. Get it now.

Book Mesa Blanca Whispering Altar

Download or read book Mesa Blanca Whispering Altar written by Florencio Guevara and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2022-02-08 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today’s Hispanic generation does not always handle the Spanish language as its vernacular. Many a time, major confusion occurs within Hispanic families because of the lack of bilingual skills. In the spiritist community, this language barrier has all too often caused potential mediums to either continue being handicapped in their development or choose another path that may lead to spiritual pitfalls. Additionally, the English-speaking community is fertile ground for new mediums from this cultural group. Many of the alleged translations of prayer books, particularly those of Allan Kardec, are a sham. You cannot translate them literally word for word. It must be translated in context of the cultural idea being presented. In this, whoever attempted the translations has slapped the public in the face with a horrid, nonsensical excuse for print. At some time, there will have to be a concerted effort to translate these works officially on paper. Up to now, it is done word of mouth, which leaves a lot to be desired when attending a misa (séance). Words evolve in definition over the centuries, as well as from one path in life to another. The word “cave” is a case in point. For mediums, the word originates as “boveda” (BO-vay-dah). The boveda consists of a grouping of glass goblets representing the spiritual quadrant of each medium. Boveda can also mean “hidden treasure box.” Indeed, this spiritual cave is a sanctuary from which our entities whisper their messages to us.

Book excerpt: Turnbaugh gave a dark chuckle. ‘‘You lawdogs and your badges,’’ he said, ‘‘you’re worse than priests with their crosses.’’ He shook his head. ‘‘I never could understand why a little ornament like that makes such a difference to yas.’’ ‘‘I don’t expect you would,’’ said Sam. He paused, took a breath and gave another glance at either end of the bar. Here goes, he said to himself, hoping he’d given Maria enough time to get into position near the empty window frame to back him up. But there was no time to wonder about it now. ‘‘I’m taking you to Fort Smith, Turnbaugh,’’ he said. Turnbaugh gave another dark chuckle. ‘‘Are you now?’’ he said in a cocky tone, as if it were all a joke. ‘‘Care to hear some numbers on how many twobit lawmen like you has tried that same thing?’’ ‘‘The numbers don’t matter,’’ said Sam, barely shaking his head. ‘‘You’re going with me. Don’t make me kill you.’’ *Preview of Ralph Cotton's Sabio's Redemption at the end of this book.
