Book excerpt: Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver (2 Corinthians 9:7). Throughout this book, the authors will focus on ten reasons to give. They are listed here for your convenience, but the reasons will be interspersed throughout the book. Look for them over and over again. They are some guidelines for becoming a more generous giver. 1. God wants us to remember the story of Cain and Abel (Genesis 4:3-7). 2. God blesses us because of who He is, not who we are or what we have done (2 Corinthians 8:7-9). 3. God blesses us to bless others (Ephesians 2:10, Acts 17:26, Esther 4:14). 4. God blesses us to fund the Great Commission (2 Corinthians 9: 10-11, Proverbs 28:27, Romans 10:13-15). 5. God wants our gifts to be first, the best, and from the heart (Proverbs 3:9-10, Genesis 4:3, Malachi 3:8-12). 6. God wants us to be generous, not as an act, but as a response. Generous giving includes an obedient will, a joyful attitude, and a compassionate heart (Matthew 10:8). 7. God wants our heart because money follows our heart (Matthew 6:21). 8. Gods purposes should be our highest priority (1 Corinthians 16:1-4). 9. God wants us to be godly and content (1 Timothy 6:6). 10. God wants us to know that salvation is free, ministry has a cost, and there is a cost to being a disciple (Luke 14:33).

Book The Treasure Principle Revised and Updated

Download or read book The Treasure Principle Revised and Updated written by Randy Alcorn and published by Multnomah. This book was released on 2012-04-11 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discover how the joy of giving can make your life richer, starting today. Bestselling author Randy Alcorn introduced readers to a revolution in material freedom and radical generosity with the release of the original The Treasure Principle in 2001. Now the revision to the compact, perennial bestseller includes a provocative new concluding chapter depicting God asking a believer questions about his stewardship over material resources. Jesus spent more time talking about money and possessions than about heaven and hell combined. But too often we’ve overlooked or misunderstood his most profound teaching on this topic, from his words in Matthew 6. Jesus offers us life-changing investment advice. He actually wants us to store up treasures for ourselves—just not here on earth. Instead, he urges us to store our treasure in heaven, where they will await us, and last forever. We can’t take it with us—but we can send it on ahead! Readers are moved from the realms of thoughtful Bible exposition into the highly personal arena of everyday life. Because when Jesus told His followers to “lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven,” He intended that they discover an astounding secret: how joyful giving brings God maximum glory and His children maximum pleasure. In The Treasure Principle, you’ll unearth a radical teaching of Jesus—a secret wrapped up in giving. Once you discover this secret, life will never look the same. And you won’t want it to be. “Supercharged with stunning, divine truth! Lightning struck over and over as I read it.” - John Piper, Senior Pastor, Bethlehem Baptist Church, Minneapolis

In True Riches, John Cortines and Gregory Baumer invite us to experience four transformations in our financial lives, moving from pride to gratitude so that we see everything as a gift; coveting to contentment so that we spend wisely; anxiety to trust so that we save appropriately; and indifference to love so that we give extravagantly. But to Angel Williams that’s an opportunity. Angel started dumpster diving out of curiosity when a woman at church mentioned it to her, but it quickly turned into a sizeable side-business to help support her growing, blended family. She learned quickly that dumpster diving is far from a last resort for those in unfortunate circumstances. It can be a fun and profitable family activity! In Finding Your Treasure, Angel shares how dumpster diving fits into her family’s Christian mission, how she started her business, and the moral case for reusing and recycling what your neighbors throw away. With a focus on faith and community, Angel opens up about her own journey, from starting to dive to growing her own YouTube following. Angel shares her most amazing finds, including $1,000 cash, designer handbags, and even toys and furniture for her family. Book excerpt: Dear friend, We know it deeply. It is so hard to juggle work, home, and spiritual life. As working women, we've wrestled with tough questions: · How can I be effective in my work, and stay committed to the Gospel? · How can I be dedicated to my family, when my job is so demanding? · Why am I working so hard, and still so unfulfilled? Sound familiar? Like you, we see a culture that promotes success at all costs, and working women are falling for it. It's happening every day. Priorities are shifting. Things are getting done . . . but are we doing what matters most? And that's why we wrote this book. The book you're holding in your hands is really a conversation--a conversation that pushes back against our culture with a Gospel-centered approach to work and womanhood, for the glory of God and the good of others. Let's get to work. His way. Michelle + Somer "This is the book for every working woman!"--ALLI WORTHINGTON, bestselling author and business coach

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by an L. A. County homicide detective and former atheist, Cold-Case Christianity examines the claims of the New Testament using the skills and strategies of a hard-to-convince criminal investigator. Christianity could be defined as a “cold case”: it makes a claim about an event from the distant past for which there is little forensic evidence. In Cold-Case Christianity, J. Warner Wallace uses his nationally recognized skills as a homicide detective to look at the evidence and eyewitnesses behind Christian beliefs. Including gripping stories from his career and the visual techniques he developed in the courtroom, Wallace uses illustration to examine the powerful evidence that validates the claims of Christianity. A unique apologetic that speaks to readers’ intense interest in detective stories, Cold-Case Christianity inspires readers to have confidence in Christ as it prepares them to articulate the case for Christianity.

When she gets caught up in the chaos of a bungled bank robbery, she is thrust unwillingly into an encounter with Court Furor, a reluctant getaway driver and prizefighter. Winifred and Court are two misfits in their own circumscribed worlds—the fashionable beau monde with its rigorously upheld rules, and the gritty demimonde, where survival often means life-or-death choices. Despite their conflicting backgrounds, they fall desperately in love while acknowledging the impossibility of remaining together. Returning to their own worlds, they try to make peace with their lives until a moment of unrestrained honesty and defiance threatens to topple the deceptions they have carefully constructed to protect each other. A story of the overlapping entanglements of Victorian London’s social classes, the strength of family bonds and friendship, and the power of love to heal a broken spirit.
