Book excerpt: #1 New York Times bestseller Susan Elizabeth Phillips returns to her beloved Chicago Stars series with a romance between a Chicago Stars quarterback and one of the world’s greatest opera singers—and a major diva. “Re-entering the world of the Chicago Stars is like a beloved friend come to call.” — #1 New York Times bestselling author Robyn Carr Thaddeus Walker Bowman Owens, the backup quarterback for the Chicago Stars, is a team player, talented sideline coach, occasional male underwear model, and a man with a low tolerance for Divas. Olivia Shore, international opera superstar, is a driven diva with a passion for perfection, a craving for justice, too many secrets—and a monumental grudge against the egotistical, lowbrow jock she’s been stuck with. It’s Mozart meets Monday Night Football as the temperamental soprano and stubborn jock embark on a nationwide tour promoting a luxury watch brand. Along the way, the combatants will engage in soul-searching and trash talk, backstage drama and, for sure, a quarterback pass. But they’ll also face trouble as threatening letters, haunting photographs, and a series of dangerous encounters complicate their lives. Is it the work of an overzealous fan or something more sinister? This is the emotional journey of a brilliant woman whose career is everything and a talented man who’ll never be happy with second place. Tender and funny, passionate and insightful, this irresistible romantic adventure proves that anything can happen…when two superstars collide.

PRAISE & REVIEWS Praise for When Two Stars Collide “When Two Stars Collide kept me turning pages, I was fully engaged with the plot.” —Early Reader Review “Cheryl Eager did a really good job drawing believable complex characters that felt real. Even their less-flattering emotions felt right to me. There were several times where Cin and Henri made me want to stand up and cheer as they grew and got stronger.” —Early Reader Review “The characters in some way struggle with confidence, identity, and figuring out their place in the world. It’s validating for those who share similar experiences.” —Beta Reader Review “The story went places I did not expect at all. I just couldn’t stop reading. It was sad, hopeful, and moving.” —Early Reader Review “I spent hours at a time reading, and could not put the story down. It had everything you need for the perfect book—suspense, struggle, and romance.” —Early Reader Review Praise for A Kiss to Wake Me “A high school romance full of love—and turbulence. The novel highlights different family dynamics that readers may resonate with... [a] story of trust, love, and family." —Kirkus Reviews “What a wonderful story about young love and trials and tribulations of teenagers. Very well written and made me feel like I actually knew these characters." —Starred review 5/5 "I really enjoyed A Kiss to Wake Me. The story was emotionally engaging. In fact, I was so into it, I kept having to go back adding comments since I was that much into finding out what happened next. I really liked Cara and Jamie. How they acted through what can only be considered enormous stress felt genuine and honest." —Starred Review 5/5 "I thoroughly enjoyed reading A Kiss to Wake Me. Cheryl did an amazing job creating characters that are likable, relatable, and have you rooting for them the entire book. I would recommend this to anyone who loves romance and enjoys young love." —Julie Schrader, editor at Bookworm Yogi "The first few paragraphs of A Kiss to Wake Me drew me in and would not let me go till I knew the outcome. From start to finish, it was engaging, romantic, and suspenseful. A story of young love, love at first sight, and a cautionary tale, this was indeed a great read." —Early Reader Review

Book excerpt: With this book Immanuel Velikovsky first presented the revolutionary results of his 10-year-long interdisciplinary research to the public, founded modern catastrophism - based on eyewitness reports by our ancestors - shook the doctrine of uniformity of geology as well as Darwin's theory of evolution, put our view of the history of our solar system, of the Earth and of humanity on a completely new basis - and caused an uproar that is still going on today. Worlds in Collision - written in a brilliant, easily understandable and entertaining style and full to the brim with precise information - can be considered one of the most important and most challenging books in the history of science. Not without reason was this book found open on Einstein's desk after his death. For all those who have ever wondered about the evolution of the earth, the history of mankind, traditions, religions, mythology or just the world as it is today, Worlds in Collision is an absolute MUST-READ!

Book Neutron Stars Black Holes and Gravitational Waves

Download or read book Neutron Stars Black Holes and Gravitational Waves written by James J Kolata and published by . This book was released on 2019-04-10 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Albert Einstein's General Theory of Relativity, published in 1915, made a remarkable prediction: gravitational radiation. Just like light (electromagnetic radiation), gravity could travel through space as a wave and affect any objects it encounters by alternately compressing and expanding them. However, there was a problem. The force of gravity is around a trillion, trillion, trillion times weaker than electromagnetism so the calculated compressions and expansions were incredibly small, even for gravity waves resulting from a catastrophic astrophysical event such as a supernova explosion in our own galaxy. Discouraged by this result, physicists and astronomers didn't even try to detect these tiny, tiny effects for over 50 years. Then, in the late 1960's and early 1970's, two events occurred which started the hunt for gravity waves in earnest. The first was a report of direct detection of gravity waves thousands of times stronger than even the most optimistic calculation. Though ultimately proved wrong, this result started scientists thinking about what instrumentation might be necessary to detect these waves. The second was an actual, though indirect, detection of gravitational radiation due to the effects it had on the period of rotation of two "neutron stars" orbiting each other. In this case, the observations were in exact accord with predictions from Einstein's theory, which confirmed that a direct search might ultimately be successful. Nevertheless, it took another 40 years of development of successively more sensitive detectors before the first real direct effects were observed in 2015, 100 years after gravitational waves were first predicted. This is the story of that hunt, and the insight it is producing into an array of topics in modern science, from the creation of the chemical elements to insights into the properties of gravity itself.

Download or read book The First Stars written by Volker Bromm and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-09-07 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The formation of the first stars (Pop III stars) and galaxies is one of the great outstanding challenges in modern astrophysics and cosmology. The first stars are likely key drivers for early cosmic evolution and will be at the center of attention over the next decade. The best available space and ground-based telescopes like the Hubble Space Telescope probe the Universe to high redshifts and provide us with tantalizing hints; but they cannot yet directly detect the first generation of stars and the formation of the first galaxies. This is left as key science for future telecopes like the James Webb Space Telescope. This book is based in part on classroom tested lectures related to Pop III stars, but also draws from the author's review articles of the main physical principles involved. The book will thus combine pedagogical introductory chapters with more advanced ones to survey the cutting-edge advances from the frontier of research. It covers the theory of first star formation, the relation between first stars and dark matter, their impact on cosmology, their observational signatures, the transition to normal star formation as well as the assembly of the first galaxies. It will prepare students for interpreting observational findings and their cosmological implications.
