Book When Opposites No Longer Attract

Download or read book When Opposites No Longer Attract written by Michael J. Testa and published by Seeds Green Printing & Design. This book was released on 2014-04-30 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea for this book occurred to me one night years ago at a bar on Pittsburgh's South Side. I was with four friends. We met there every week to watch Will & Grace. As we drank our beer, I realized that we were five gay men, all divorced from women, and among us, we had fourteen children. Even though I had met married men on gay sites online, up until that night, I had considered myself something of an anomaly. I was a heterosexual man who didn't realize I was gay until I was married and had children. Before that night at the bar, I had been vaguely aware that my friends and I were meeting a lot of married men--men in straight marriages--in gay bars and other venues in which these supposedly straight men were looking to hook up with other men. That night in the South Side, it hit me that I was not an anomaly. There is something happening in American culture. People are starting to wake up and realize that they are not who they thought they were. They're waking up and finding themselves married to someone that biologically no longer rings their bells. And this phenomenon is much more common than people think.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do you and your partner argue about the same things over and over again? Are you often confused about why your partner is so angry with you? Are things getting worse and worse even though you’ve tried everything you can think of to make them better? In this breakthrough guide to repairing romantic relationships, therapist and marriage researcher Dr. Stephen Betchen presents a powerful new explanation of what leads to this kind of escalating conflict in couples and how you can repair your relationship and find a whole new level of happiness. Based on his extensive experience as a couples’ therapist, Dr. Betchen has discovered that the prevailing idea that opposites attract is wrong. Instead, one of the strongest forces that attracts people to one another is that they share a hidden, inner conflict in their lives—an unconscious struggle within themselves that each of them developed growing up—which he calls a "master conflict." The fact that a couple shares a master conflict acts as an almost magnetic force of attraction, but, over time, master conflicts often begin to push a pair apart—many of the very things you most appreciated about each other start to grate on you, producing increasing hostility. The good news is that by identifying the master conflict that you share, you and your partner can take the steps to break the cycle of fighting and come to a new place of understanding and happiness in your relationship. Often, just the realization that you have this hidden conflict acts as a powerful cure, allowing you to appreciate each other once again and to be empathetic about the things that have been irritating you both. From his years of work with couples, Betchen has identified the nineteen most common master conflicts—such as getting your needs met vs. caretaking; giving vs. withholding; commitment vs. freedom; power vs. passivity—and for each he provides vivid stories of couples who have struggled with them, as well as simple tests that help you to: • Identify the core master conflict that is causing your relationship problems • Understand the origins of your conflict and how it drew you to your partner • Diagnose how the conflict is now pushing you apart • Come to new terms with the conflict to save your relationship As Dr. Betchen writes, knowledge of a master conflict is power, and Magnetic Partners is an empowering guide that will help you not only to identify and control your master conflict, but also to bring your relationship to a new level based on deeper understanding, ultimately leading to greater fulfillment and long-term resilience. Book excerpt: First law of magnetism: opposite poles attract. Single mom Vivian has been burned by love once before, and her job as a divorce lawyer has presented enough evidence to convince her there are no good men left in New York City. The worst offender is her new neighbor: Dr. Lucas Keller, a couple's therapist whose piercing blue eyes and flawless dark hair are just as annoying as his bad temper. And when Lucas starts poaching Vivian's clients by saving their marriages, she makes it her mission to force him out of the building to save her practice. But it's Lucas who gives her the perfect opportunity when he proposes an unexpected bet. With their offices at stake, Vivian and Lucas play the field of love in a fierce battle of wits that quickly turns hot and personal, especially when Vivian's daughter gets involved. Now, taking down Lucas has become more than business for Vivian. It's become a pleasure-and soon, Vivian and Lucas will realize how pointless it is to fight the laws of attraction. A fun, neighbors to lovers romantic comedy filled with heart. Be ready to laugh and swoon. Chick Lit Post This is Camilla Isley at her very best, it's funny, it's touching, it has threads of a tricky storyline, and the banter and chemistry between to the two leads is rather evident from the beginning and it's just a sheer pleasure to read. Book excerpt: For fans of high culture, pop culture and American genius, a personal and idiosyncratic exploration of two of the 20th century's most distinguished cultural icons. With wit and style worthy of his subjects, Craig Seligman explores the enduring influence of two critics who defined the cultural sensibilities of a generation: Susan Sontag and Pauline Kael. Though outwardly they had several things in common--they were both Westerners who came east, both schooled in philosophy, both secular Jews, and both single mothers--they were polar opposites in temperament and approach. From the very beginning Seligman makes his sympathies clear: Sontag is a writer he reveres; but Kael is a writer he loves. He approaches both critics through their work, whose fundamental parallels serve to sharpen their differences. Tone is the most obvious area where they're at odds. Kael practiced a kind of verbal jazz, exuberant, excessive, intimate, emotional, and funny. Sontag is formal and a little icy--a model of detachment. Kael never changed her approach from her first review to her last, while mutability has been one of the defining motifs of Sontag's career. Moral questions obsess Sontag; they interested

My new, fancy, head chef position at one of the most acclaimed restaurants in the city is not turning out like I'd hoped. I'm a mess. Totally out of my element and underqualified, I've been thrown into a fiery kitchen and I'm not sure I can handle the heat. On top of that, my personal life is falling apart. And to make matters worse, my best friend's brother keeps popping up at all my worst moments to save the day.I've never claimed to have it together, but I certainly don't need a man to rescue me every time I get my heel stuck in a sewer grate. Except that's what keeps happening. Vann Delane is pushy and stuck up and thinks he knows everything there is to know about everything. And for whatever reason, he keeps saving me. Not that he's happy about it. He's made it clear what he thinks about my money and dream job and the designer shoes he saved last weekend. He's not impressed with me and my penchant for disaster. I've decided to stay away from him. I've got too many other fires to put out to worry about the something between us that doesn't have a name. So, he can give his knight in shining armor kindness to someone else. And he can save those intense glances and butterfly-inducing smiles for the nice girl he's looking for. And he can deny it all he wants, but I know he likes me.He says I drive him crazy. But I know there's something about me that he can't deny.

Well, living authentically and boldly has never been a problem for Larry Winget. Known as the Pitbull of Personal Development, Larry is not afraid to tell it like it is about what it takes to be successful. And he's also not afraid of skewering some of those well-known shibboleths of personal development---like The Law of Attraction and the path of effortless success that are peddled by so many motivational speakers. In this book, Larry will take on the political correctness that has infected our society, and the personal development industry. He’ll outline an effective back to the basics approach to help YOU be more successful. Larry still believes that hard work and excellence are the keys to success and communicates that like no other person on the planet can! Larry makes you think. He makes you uncomfortable. He offers common sense solutions that are impossible to argue with. On top of all that, he is hilarious.
