Book excerpt: A whole class of boys disappear without trace from their school. Another set of boys apparently witness what happened but are physically prevented from describing what they saw for some months. This latter group of boys separate to follow their own careers, marry and raise children, but are eventually all brought together again in an engineering capacity – despite earlier interests. Working together they devise new alloys and electronic communication devices. They build a model of machine they believe will travel through space – at the same time secretly building the parts for a full size machine. The model is tested in front of witnesses and performs perfectly but disappears from all monitoring systems for most of the test flight. While testing the new communication device a message is received from their old school friends who vanished those years ago. It takes some convincing of others that these boys (men now|) are still alive but permission is given for the full size machine to be built. Whole families are smuggled aboard the machine which, rather than going for a test flight, heads for the planet where their old friends are waiting. On arrival they find that all the people there have to be underground at night and in well lit places; any person, or animal, left outside at night is found dead the next day. They explore the planet, make friends with unknown animals, but are caught outside at night. A call for help is answered and they all survive, but now have a mission to destroy the darkness. They return to Earth to pick up people versed in ancient magics and return to Paxlene where, after adventures the darkness is defeated. An attempt is made to return the special people to Earth but fails as the Earth is about to be hit by a giant Asteroid. They are able to cocoon parts of the Earth and shield them from the catastrophe, but it all happens too quickly for anyone to be returned home. They try return to Paxlene, now free of evil, where they plan to help to build new societies out in the open, but something takes over their controls. The story continues with ‘Wormhole’ , and will conclude with a third tale which has a working title of “Restitution”.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Illuminating selections from Jung’s writings on the nature of evil Well-known for his articulation of the “shadow side” of human individuality and culture, C. G. Jung wrote a great deal about the question of evil throughout his life and in scattered places in his work. In this book, Murray Stein brings together key selections of Jung’s writings on the subject. In Jung’s early work on the unconscious, he considered the role of evil in the mental processes of the severely disturbed. Later, he viewed the question of moral choice within the framework of his ideas about archetypes and discussions about moral choices, conscience, and the continual ethical reflection that is necessary for all of us. The material here includes letters to Freud and Father Victor White and writings ranging from his Answer to Job to his travel piece on North Africa.

Book Dancing in the Wild Spaces of Love

Download or read book Dancing in the Wild Spaces of Love written by James H. Olthuis and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2022-06-08 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the twenty-first century, amid globalized violence, rising demagogues, and the climate emergency, contemporary philosophers and theologians have begun to debate a fundamental question: Is our reality the result of the overflowing, ever-present creativity of Love, or the symptom of a traumatic rupture at the heart of all things? Drawing on decades of research in postmodern philosophy and experience as a psychotherapist, James H. Olthuis wades into this discussion to propose a radical ontology of Love without metaphysics. In dialogue with philosophers like John D. Caputo, Slavoj Žižek, Luce Irigaray, and others, Olthuis explores issues from divine sovereignty and the problem of evil to trauma and social ethics. Experience in therapeutic work informs these investigations, rooting them in journeys with individuals on the path to healing. Olthuis makes the bold claim that while trauma, pain, and suffering are significant parts of our human lives, nevertheless Love is with us to the very end. Creation is a gift that comes with a call to make something of it ourselves, a risky task we must take on with the promise that Love will win. We are all dancing in the wild spaces of Love: ex amore, cum amore, ad amorem.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Was the leading psychologist of his time a Nazi sympathiser? This was the question asked by many after the Second World War, as they sought to explain Jung's actions and publications during Nazi rule. So great was the controversy that his reputation risked being permanently damaged. Essays on Contemporary Events was the first broadside in his vigorous defence of his beleaguered reputation. This remarkable work is essential reading for anyone seeking to understand Jung. It will enable the reader to decide: was Jung wholly innocent of the accusations or had he, like so many others, fallen under the Nazi spell and was now trying to make amends.

Book Civilization in Transition

Download or read book Civilization in Transition written by C. G. Jung and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-12-18 with total page 640 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For this second edition of Civilization in Transition, essential corrections have been made in the text, and the bibliographical references have been brought up to date. This volume contains essays bearing on the contemporary scene and, in particular, on the relation of the individual to society. In the earliest one (1918), Jung advanced the theory that the European conflict was basically a psychological crisis originating in the collective unconscious of individuals. He pursued this theory in papers written during the '20s and '30s, focusing on the upheaval in Germany, and he gave it a much wider application in two major works of his last years ^DDL The Undiscovered Self, concerned with the relation between the individual and a mass society, and Flying Saucers, on the birth of a myth which Jung regarded as compensating the scientistic trends of our technological era. An appendix contains documents relating to Jung's association with the International General Medical Society for Psychotherapy.
