Download or read book Food Production in the People s Republic of China written by Anthony M. Tang and published by Intl Food Policy Res Inst. This book was released on 1980 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: A population of one billion people has the potential for enormous impact on the world food supply, but demographic and food production data for the People's Republic of China have been difficult to obtain. In an effort to fill this gap, two papers are presented which attempt ot synthesize and analyze as much information as is available and make predictions of probable trends in agriculture and related fields in the year 2000 and for the 1985 grain program. Records from 1952-77 are used to estimate cultivated land, animals, energy consumption, farm machinery, fertilizer, and output of grains, soybeans and cotton. The effects of industrailization and resources are considered. Trends are toward population control, although total demand will continue to grow; emphasis on agriculture seems to indicate that production will be capable of keeping up with demand, may result in some dietary improvement, but will not provide for emergency supplies.

Download or read book Chinese Corporate Identity written by Peter J. Peverelli and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2006 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book represents the first study of economic restructuring in reform era China to apply the concepts of identity and corporate space; notions that have become increasingly relevant as foreign invested and Chinese ventures face complex operational and societal issues in the wake of globalization. Peverelli uses his own theoretical framework to examine and detect multiple identities of Chinese enterprises within a larger, comprehensive organization theory. A host of practical case studies taken from Peverelli’s time as a consultant help to illustrate this original theory, while providing a practical reference to the modern Chinese economy and Chinese management. Chinese Corporate Identitywill prove a valuable resource to academics working in organization theory, cultural anthropology, sociology, and business and economics. In addition, its supporting case studies will be of interest to consulting firms, foreign embassies and consulates in China.

Download or read book Computer and Computing Technologies in Agriculture XI written by Daoliang Li and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-01-09 with total page 578 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The two volumes IFIP AICT 545 and 546 constitute the refereed post-conference proceedings of the 11th IFIP WG 5.14 International Conference on Computer and Computing Technologies in Agriculture, CCTA 2017, held in Jilin, China, in August 2017. The 100 revised papers included in the two volumes were carefully reviewed and selected from 282 submissions. They cover a wide range of interesting theories and applications of information technology in agriculture. The papers focus on four topics: Internet of Things and big data in agriculture, precision agriculture and agricultural robots, agricultural information services, and animal and plant phenotyping for agriculture.
Download or read book Machine Vision and Machine Learning for Plant Phenotyping and Precision Agriculture written by Huajian Liu and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-01-18 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plant phenotyping (PP) describes the physiological and biochemical properties of plants affected by both genotypes and environments. It is an emerging research field that is assisting the breeding and cultivation of new crop varieties to be more productive and resilient to challenging environments. Precision agriculture (PA) uses sensing technologies to observe crops and then manage them optimally to ensure that they grow in healthy conditions, have maximum productivity, and have minimal negative effects on the environment. Traditionally, the observation of plant traits heavily relies on human experts which is labor intensive, time-consuming, and subjective. Automatic crop traits measurement in PP and PA are two different fields, but they share the same sensing and data processing technologies in many respects. Recently, driven by computer and sensor technologies, machine vision (MV) and machine learning (ML) have contributed to accurate, high-throughput, and nondestructive plant phenotyping and precision agriculture. However, these technologies are still in their infant stage and there are many challenges and questions related to them that still need to be addressed. The goal of this Research Topic is to provide a platform to share the latest research results on the application of MV and ML for PP and PA. It aims to highlight cutting-edge technologies, bottle-necks, and future research directions for MV and ML in crop breeding, crop cultivation, disease management, weed control, and pest control.

Download or read book Handbook of Bioplastics and Biocomposites Engineering Applications written by Srikanth Pilla and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-07-20 with total page 622 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Handbook is the first to explore the extensive applications made with bioplastics & biocomposites for the packaging, automotive, biomedical, and construction industries. Bioplastics and biocomposites are becoming increasingly prominent because synthetic plastics and glass fiber composites are neither sustainable nor environmentally friendly. The Handbook of Bioplastics and Biocomposites Engineering Applications brings together scientists from academia and industry to report on current research and applications in the bioplastics and biocomposites arena. This new science is interdisciplinary and integrates pure and applied sciences such as chemistry, engineering and materials science. The Handbook focuses on five main categories of applications: Packaging; Civil Engineering; Biomedical; Automotive; General Engineering. The majority of the chapters review the properties, processing, characterization, synthesis and applications of the bio-based and biodegradable polymers and composites including: Polymers such as polylactic acid (PLA), polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB), guar gum based plastics, cellulose polyesters, starch based bioplastics, vegetable oil derived bioplastics, biopolyethylene, chitosan, etc. Thermoplastic and thermosetting bioplastics and biocomposites with a focus on the automobile industry. The ways how to improve the properties of bioplastics, polymer blends, and biocomposites by combining them with both synthetic and natural fillers and reinforcements such as nanoclays, nanotubes (CNTs), and natural fibers (both wood and plant fibers). Studies that expand the boundaries of bioplastics that will allow for the new materials to be applied to most generic engineering applications. The Handbook will be of central interest to engineers, scientists and researchers who are working in the fields of bioplastics, biocomposites, biomaterials for biomedical engineering, biochemistry, and materials science. The book will also be of great importance to engineers in many industries including automotive, biomedical, construction, and food packaging.
