This book was released on with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much ink and venom have been spilled over the question of what tongues was in the New Testament and what, or even if, it should be today. Most of the dialogue on the topic has been p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 11.0px Verdana; -webkit-text-stroke: #000000} span.s1 {font-kerning: none} rooted in denominational dogma, cultural tradition, and personal experience instead of clear exegesis of the NewTestament texts. Therefore, if anything in Acts or the rest of the New Testament is to be rightly understood, it must be read and understood within the socio-religious context of the people who first heard and read it. Within the New Testament, any theological or religious idea was understood by Hebrew/Israelite/Jewish people in the context of the Law, the Prophets, and the Writings, i.e., the Old Testament. It is within this framework that the issue of ‘tongues’ should be considered.

Book What the Biblical Text Actually Says about Speaking in Tongues

Download or read book What the Biblical Text Actually Says about Speaking in Tongues written by Brian Wright and published by . This book was released on 2016-12-10 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much ink and venom have been spilled over the question of what tongues was in the New Testament and what, or even if, it should be today. Most of the dialogue on the topic has been rooted in denominational dogma, cultural tradition, and personal experience instead of clear exegesis of the New Testament texts. Therefore, if anything in Acts or the rest of the New Testament is to be rightly understood, it must be read and understood as it would have been by those who lived it and first heard it. Any references to God, faith, the Scriptures, or any theological or religious idea was only understood by Hebrew/Israelite/Jewish people in the context of the Tanakh, (a Jewish acronym for the Torah, the Neviim, and the Ketuvim, meaning the Law, the Prophets, and the Writings of Poetry and Wisdom, i.e., the Old Testament). Applying this principle to the book of Acts, we can recognize and contextualize key elements in the text that can guide our hermeneutic for anything and everything that happens in the text. Thus, we must begin with the socio-religious context that preceded and surrounded the New Testament, and subsequently allow for consideration of later interpretations. It is within this framework that the issue of 'tongues' should be considered.

Book What the Bible Says about Speaking in Tongues

Download or read book What the Bible Says about Speaking in Tongues written by John Argubright and published by John Argubright. This book was released on 2014-05-22 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Biblical gift of speaking in tongues is the supernatural gift from God of speaking in a known foreign language to unbelievers without any previous knowledge or training in that language. And what is spoken in that foreign language is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The main purpose is in order that Christ and Him crucified would be preached to all nations in a language that the hearer would understand. Yet today, many wolves in sheep clothing have perverted what the true gift of speaking in tongues really is, and have replaced it with all sorts of false doctrines. This Bible study teaches verse by verse on this topic, teaching what the Bible says as compared to what the heretics of today have to say, who are deceiving Christians by telling them to pray in ecstatic utterance that was once only associated with demonic possession. And as you will see, a very dangerous doctrine is being spewed from the tongues of these false prophets.

Book Faith s Checkbook Sea Harp Timeless series

Download or read book Faith s Checkbook Sea Harp Timeless series written by Charles H. Spurgeon and published by Destiny Image Publishers. This book was released on 2022-09-20 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout Scripture, God promises the impossible to those who believe. For many Christians, the promises of God have lost their power. Deemed as irrelevant or simply misunderstood, God's promises—of triumph, abundance, redemption, and countless blessings—are often ignored, forgotten, and seemingly unfulfilled. However, for Charles H. Spurgeon, God’s promises were timeless. In fact, they seemed to grow in power and hope over the course of his life. In Faith’s Checkbook, Spurgeon shares his personal experience testing and proving Scripture’s promises and his ongoing discovery of a relentlessly good, kind and faithful God. He urges believers to treat God’s promises as they would a check—to receive them, endorse them and actively "cash them in." Charles Spurgeon (1834-1892), renowned 19th century Baptist preacher, is best known for his 1866 publication Morning and Evening. Over 20 years later, Spurgeon wrote Faith’s Checkbook, a yearlong devotional that inspires believers to see and experience God’s goodness. Written near the end of his life, in the depths of a season marked by incredible loneliness, spiritual controversies and health complications, Faith’s Checkbook is full of honest, heartfelt and mature hope. Spurgeon’s breathtaking sincerity and provoking thoughts will encourage believers to: Study and engage God’s promises throughout Scripture Expect these promises to be fulfilled in their daily life Participate by receiving God’s promises and praying for their fulfillment Glimpse God’s boundless goodness and faithfulness Discover a renewed, child-like trust in Him In Faith’s Checkbook, the reader will encounter God’s outstretched hand—through promises of provision, wisdom, fruitfulness, presence and much more—and be invited to respond with hopeful anticipation.

Book Are Miraculous Gifts for Today

Download or read book Are Miraculous Gifts for Today written by Zondervan, and published by Zondervan Academic. This book was released on 2011-10-11 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are Miraculous Gifts for Today? takes you to the heart of one of the most dividing questions in the Church today: how are the Holy Spirit’s miracles at work among God's people now? Is he still actively giving the gifts of tongues, prophecy, and healing that fill the book of Acts? Is he driving out demons when Christians command them to flee? Or are these events confined to the time of the early church and the apostles? This volume of the Counterpoints series provides an impartial format for comparing the four main positions on present-day miracles (including the history and distinctions between the three positions that affirm miraculous gifts) with voice also given to a large sector of open-but-cautious evangelicals: Cessationist: there are no miraculous gifts of the Holy Spirit today. Pentecostal: gifts are intended for today, with certain nuances focused on baptism and speaking in tongues. Charismatic: gifts are intended for today and should be actively practiced. Third Wave: gifts are intended for today, with greater emphasis on baptism and less on tongues. This thought-provoking book will help Christians on every side of the miraculous gifts debate to better understand their own position and the positions of others. The Counterpoints series presents a comparison and critique of scholarly views on topics important to Christians that are both fair-minded and respectful of the biblical text. Each volume is a one-stop reference that allows readers to evaluate the different positions on a specific issue and form their own, educated opinion.

Download or read book Speaking in Tongues written by Kathleen Schwab and published by Called Writers Christian Publishing. This book was released on 2020-02-02 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever wondered why your prayer language doesn’t sound like real words? And why is it so repetitive? Why does it usually start with the same few words or syllables? Maybe you’ve asked those questions at times. We’ve asked the same questions—and quite a few others—regarding the gifts of tongues and interpretation of tongues. Then we sought the Lord for understanding of these gifts and did our best to operate in them faithfully. He gave us many insights and answers, and then brought it all together in a book. That was something we never really planned. It just sort of happened. We aren’t megachurch pastors. We don’t lead multi-national ministries. But we did have a calling from the Lord to write a book and spread a message. What exactly is that message? Speaking in tongues and interpreting tongues are powerful gifts with practical use for everyday people like us. When people operate in these gifts, God blesses the person operating in the gift, but He also blesses the people around them. Other Questions We Explore in the Book: What does speaking in tongues feel like emotionally? What is the purpose of speaking in tongues? What are the benefits? How does the gift of interpretation work? Are biblical tongues earthly languages, or heavenly languages? Or both? We invite you to explore these questions with us, as you read through our book. Book Speaking in Tongues

Download or read book Speaking in Tongues written by Herbert G. Bell, Jr. and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2009-07 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Speaking in Tongues follows the quest of Reverend Herbert Bell, Jr. to find out the Biblical truth about speaking in tongues. Throughout his book, he uses various biblical and pastoral sources to determine the origins of the practice of speaking in tongues. His biblical resource is the New King James Version of the bible from which he has also drawn all of the scriptures used in the book. He examines the writings of John Wesley, Dr. Curtis Hutson and James M. Frye to weigh their response to the practice of speaking in tongues. In John Wesley, he finds a voice who just wants his congregation to be able to understand his message. Like Wesley, he has endeavored in this book to present the material in a manner so that all who read it may understand and profit from its content. As he delves more deeply into the writings of Hutson and Frye, he finds two theologians who also share his view of speaking in tongues. With that as a basis, Reverend Bell decided to search the Scripture for himself so that he would learn what God required of him as he worshipped Him in Spirit and in Truth.
