Book What s Right with the Church

Download or read book What s Right with the Church written by Elmer L. Towns and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2009-09-15 with total page 139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The early believers of Jesus Christ knew that they were not just members of an organization, nor were they just an extension of Old Testament Judaism. They knew that they were followers of the living Lord Jesus Christ. They were members of a thing called the church. Through the centuries, the church has been the most powerful transforming force in history. Yet in America many observe it as anemic and powerless. Author Elmer Towns contends that there is good news; there are many things that are still right with the church. What Is Right with the Church affirms the positive things that are present in the church today and what will carry it forward as a transforming force. This book is not a defense of the traditional church, nor does it run to embrace all new forms of worship. Rather, this book examines the biblical nature of church, allowing the best to come forth. It is not a book about old churches, new churches, or home churches. It is a book about what is right about every true church, no matter the expression, history, or culture. A growing number of people are not aware of the enduring strengths of the church. The author contends that if believers in Christ are to effectively move forward with healthy communities and a vibrant faith in this new century, they must be established on foundational, biblical truths and core values. And when this happens, the church thrives as a transforming force.

Book excerpt: Does your church make you uncomfortable? It’s easy to dream about the “perfect” church—a church that sings just the right songs set to just the right music before the pastor preaches just the right sermon to a room filled with just the right mix of people who happen to agree with you on just about everything. Chances are your church doesn’t quite look like that. But what if instead of searching for a church that makes us comfortable, we learned to love our church, even when it’s challenging? What if some of the discomfort that we often experience is actually good for us? This book is a call to embrace the uncomfortable aspects of Christian community, whether that means believing difficult truths, pursuing difficult holiness, or loving difficult people—all for the sake of the gospel, God’s glory, and our joy.

Book The Role of the Church in a Decaying World

Download or read book The Role of the Church in a Decaying World written by Manasseh Bewry and published by . This book was released on 2007-04-01 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Role of the Church in a Decaying World A Practical View There are many books that are written that deal exhaustively with the subject of Ecclesiology, or the Doctrine of the Church. This book is not intended to handle such matter. It is instead intended to address the Church's responsibility in today's society while maintaining its focus on its mission of spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. It will address such matters as marriage and divorce, sexual promiscuity, wars, racism, abortion as well as a host of other socially related topics. In a society where human beings are getting less and less interested in matters of a religious nature partially due to the prevailing perceptions of the Church, the author takes a critical look at some of the things the Church must do to ensure that it is meeting its objectives of "making disciples of all nations through the gospel" while striving to improve the social condition of humanity in general. The author made no attempt to avoid controversial issues and at the end remained true to what the scripture had to say on each matter. Where scripture is not explicit, the author draws from exegesis, logics and experience in arriving at his conclusions. Rev. Dr. Manasseh L. Bewry (B.Sc., Th .M., Th .D.) is the co-founder of Bethel Deliverance Temple and is the founder of the Bethel Family Ministries (Internet and Tract Ministry). Some of his works include, Is There a Place Called Hell, To Believe or Not to Believe That is the Question, The Race to Everywhere but Anywhere and Coming to Christ Through the Truth.

Book What s Wrong with the Church

Download or read book What s Wrong with the Church written by Apostle Duane Mitchell and published by Outskirts Press. This book was released on 2009-10 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whats Wrong with the Church? Noticed the Problems and Addressing the Issues to Destroy the Yokes of BondageThe church has always been known as a spiritual hospital, but now many of todays churches have a lot of people wondering what has happen to its effectiveness. In other words why is the church allowing things to go on within it that isnt aligning with the Word of God? It is a sad but known fact that the attendance of one night at a night club more than doubles the attendance of most church services. When you ask the question to most that dont attend church services regularly why they dont attend services regularly, the answer you will often get is because of certain issues that are noticeable within the church body that many Christians do not and are not willing to address. Many Christians have noticed things going on within the body of Christ that are not aligned with the Word of God, but are afraid to stand up against the viruses that plaques many churches. So many Christians are afraid to stand up against these issues because they feel that they are the only one that have noticed them and from fear of being disowned by their church body. Well dont you feel discourage for God has people who have noticed these issues , who are not afraid to stand on the Word of God concerning these problems and are willing to teach you how to stand up against them according to the Word of God.In this Book, Apostle Duane Mitchell teaches you how to overcome the viruses that are found in many of todays churches through the biblical principles of the Word of God. The biblical truths revealed in this book will help us as Christians to kill the many viruses that plague the church so we can function as Christ intended His Church too.

Book WE RE RIGHT and THEY RE WRONG A COMMON CHURCH DISEASE

Download or read book WE RE RIGHT and THEY RE WRONG A COMMON CHURCH DISEASE written by Anthony Edmondson and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2010-03-17 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although I hold no position in the denominational and non-denominational worship centers, the reason I created this book is because church affiliations constantly debate over whose doctrine is right and whose doctrine is wrong. Many congregations are wasting too much time and material on spreading this kind of ́disease ́ by trying to decide another Christian ́s eternity. Now through my own 35-year attendances, along with a local survey, I was able to chart and examine 13 church-dividing topics through biblical interpretations and practices of both affiliations--arriving to conclusions on the matter.

Book Church emerging from the cracks

Download or read book Church emerging from the cracks written by Johann-Albrecht Meylahn and published by AFRICAN SUN MeDIA. This book was released on 2013-01-01 with total page 77 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The drawing, Christ of the Breadlines, by Fritz Eichenberg (1953) probably says all that this book wants to say about being church. The church is a space in this world where heaven and earth reach out to each other. It is a space in the world, but not of the world, as it is touched by heaven. Christ is in the breadline, yet one can recognise Him as He stands out in the breadline. One can recognise him, because of the hallow that surrounds him. He is the incarnation within reality and through the incarnation the place within reality becomes holy, not sacred as in separated, but sanctified as differentiated offering an alternative within reality. He brings a space that is marked, not by the darkness and the vicious cycles of the world which dominate and enslave creation, such as poverty, but a space that breaks into this darkness with light as it is hallowed in hope. What more can the church hope for than to be allowed to be a space of hallowed hope in the vicious systems of death in a postmodern and post-Christian world? This book would like to propose that it does not really matter if you start with theory (Scripture and tradition) or with context and practice because theology is circular or spiral, and therefore there is no starting point as the two continually influences each other, or one could even say the one interprets the other. So for this book the best place to start is with where we are now ? the now of experience as this now of experience includes both theory and praxis. There is no such thing as experience pure and simple, as experience is always interpreted-experience and the interpretation is done through the theory that has shaped and formed us. Thus, in this book we work with ?theory-laden practice?.

Book Ditch the Building

  • Pages : 111 pages

Download or read book Ditch the Building written by Nick May and published by Energion Publications. This book was released on 2019-05-13 with total page 111 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sometimes going radical means getting to the root. Sometimes it means pulling something up by the roots. What is it that is keeping you from doing what God wants you to do? There are many books about how to do church "right." There are programs for every imaginable thing you might want to improve in your church. There are at least as many measures by which you can determine whether your church is successful. Ditch the Building ditches that approach and asks you to look at what God is calling you to do, and how ingrained church structures are keeping you from actually following that call. Nick May doesn't claim to know what you're supposed to be doing, or even what's stopping you. What he does know from the experience of growing up in church, working in a megachurch and then pastoring a church plant, is that many of you are precisely at that point. You likely have at least the glimmering of a vision of what you believe God is calling you to do. When it comes time to start doing it, however, you find things in your way. It may be things in your own life or things in your church. Ingrained structures may be your physical building. They may be your order of worship. They may be found in your Christian education department where you are implementing innovative ideas to prepare your children and youth to live in the 90s--1890s. We often hear that God hasn't changed. This is supposed to tell us that we don't have to change either. But people and culture do change, the challenges change. We have to find God's way of responding and building God's people. If you want to live out your life comfortably, don't buy this book. If you think the church today is just fine, don't buy this book. But if you hear the call to follow wherever God leads, no matter how radical that makes you seem, then buy and read this book. We're not telling you that this book will change your life. We're hoping that after reading it, you will be empowered to let God change your life, your ministry, your church, and our world.
