Book What Does the Bible Really Teach about Homosexuality

Download or read book What Does the Bible Really Teach about Homosexuality written by Kevin DeYoung and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2015-04-16 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In just a few short years, massive shifts in public opinion have radically reshaped society’s views on homosexuality. Feeling the pressure to forsake long-held beliefs about sex and marriage, some argue that Christians have historically misunderstood the Bible’s teaching on this issue. But does this approach do justice to what the Bible really teaches about homosexuality? In this timely book, award-winning author Kevin DeYoung challenges each of us—the skeptic, the seeker, the certain, and the confused—to take a humble look at God’s Word. Examining key biblical passages in both the Old and New Testaments and the Bible’s overarching teaching regarding sexuality, DeYoung responds to popular objections raised by Christians and non-Christians alike—offering readers an indispensable resource for thinking through one of the most pressing issues of our day.

Book What Does the Bible Really Say

Download or read book What Does the Bible Really Say written by Martin Davie and published by . This book was released on 2021-01-08 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2019 a series of ten articles by various authors was published on the liberal Anglican website ViaMedia.News under the collective title 'Does the Bible Really Say....?' The purpose of this series was to challenge the belief that the Bible rules out acceptance of same-sex sexual relationships and same-sex marriage. The essays in this book are response to these ViaMedia.News articles. They show that the arguments that these articles put forward are not sustainable in the light of what the Bible actually says. Underlying the current debate in the Church about human sexuality is the question asked of Eve by the snake 'Did God really say?' (Genesis 3:1). Through nature and Scripture God has said clearly that he has created human beings as male and female and has ordained marriage between one man and one woman as the sole legitimate setting for sexual intercourse. We know that this is what God has told us and yet in the face of pressure from our contemporary culture we are tempted to question whether this is what he really meant. It is of the utmost importance that this temptation is resisted. The purpose of this book is to encourage such resistance.

  • Author : Michael S. Heiser
  • Publisher : Lexham Press

  • ISBN : 1683592905
  • Pages : 282 pages

Download or read book Demons written by Michael S. Heiser and published by Lexham Press. This book was released on 2020-04-29 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The truth about demons is far stranger—and even more fascinating—than what's commonly believed. Are demons real? Are they red creatures with goatees holding pitchforks and sitting on people's shoulders while whispering bad things? Did a third of the angels really rebel with Satan? Are demons and "principalities and powers" just terms for the same entities, or are they different members of the kingdom of darkness? Is the world a chaotic mess because of what happened in Eden, or is there more to the story of evil? What people believed about evil spiritual forces in ancient biblical times is often very different than what people have been led to believe about them today. And this ancient worldview is missing from most attempts to treat the topic. In Demons, Michael Heiser debunks popular presuppositions about the very real powers of darkness. Rather than traditions, stories, speculations, or myths, Demons is grounded in what ancient people of both the Old and New Testament eras believed about evil spiritual forces and in what the Bible actually says. You'll come away with a sound, biblical understanding of demons, supernatural rebellion, evil spirits, and spiritual warfare.

He is the subject of millions of statues, sculptures, devotional objects and works of art. Is our popular image of Jesus overly westernized and untrue to historical reality? This question continues to fascinate. Leading Christian Origins scholar Joan E. Taylor surveys the historical evidence, and the prevalent image of Jesus in art and culture, to suggest an entirely different vision of this most famous of men. He may even have had short hair.

Book excerpt: An examination of sex and the Bible by one of the leading biblical scholars in the United States. For several decades, Michael Coogan's introductory course on the Old Testament has been a perennial favorite among students at Harvard University. In God and Sex, Coogan examines one of the most controversial aspects of the Hebrew Scripture: What the Old Testament really says about sex, and how contemporary understanding of those writings is frequently misunderstood or misrepresented. In the engaging and witty voice generations of students have appreciated, Coogan explores the language and social world of the Bible, showing how much innuendo and euphemism is at play, and illuminating the sexuality of biblical figures as well as God. By doing so, Coogan reveals the immense gap between popular use of Scripture and its original context. God and Sex is certain to provoke, entertain, and enlighten readers.

Book All Things New

    Book Details:
  • Author : Peter Hiett
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2019-09-18
  • ISBN : 9781691567690
  • Pages : 64 pages

Download or read book All Things New written by Peter Hiett and published by . This book was released on 2019-09-18 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In several places, Scripture testifies to the idea that there is a reality in which everything is very good (Gen. 1:31); a reality in which all things are made new (Rev. 21:5); where "every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them," praises God and the Lamb that was slain (Rev. 5:13); a place where Jesus, the Light, fills all things (Eph. 4:10 ) and every knee bows and every tongue gives praise (Rom.14:11, Phil. 2:10-11, Isa. 45:23). Well, if that's the case-and Jesus said, "Scripture cannot be broken" (John 10:35)-then where the hell is Hell? I mean, how do we reconcile Scripture with "popular" notions of "Hell" ...an endless Hell? That question comes as a surprise for many; for we've been told that the popular view of Hell-a place where God tortures people or allows people to be tortured forever without end-is a biblical idea. The more I've studied it, the more I've become convinced that this "doctrine" is a very unbiblical idea... perhaps it's even a satanic idea.In the following pages, I'd like to just offer some assistance in constructing this new mental paradigm-a biblical paradigm that allows for an eternal day in which everything is good. In the first section, "Exegetical Paradigms," I'll examine the three leading views of Hell in light of Scripture and offer a set of ideas that has led me to embrace the idea of redemption for all. In the next section, "Theology," I'll suggest a few ways in which the idea of redemption for all may relate to one's current theological system. In the last section, "Pastoral Care," I'll suggest some reasons as to why I think all of this matters.-Peter Hiett

Book Heaven and Hell

Download or read book Heaven and Hell written by Bart D. Ehrman and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2021-03-23 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over half of Americans believe in a literal heaven, in a literal hell. Most people who hold these beliefs are Christian and assume they are the age-old teachings of the Bible. Ehrman shows that eternal rewards and punishments are found nowhere in the Old Testament, and are not what Jesus or his disciples taught. He recounts the long history of the afterlife, ranging from The Epic of Gilgamesh up to the writings of Augustine, focusing especially on the teachings of Jesus and his early followers. Ehrman shows that competing views were intimately connected with the social, cultural, and historical worlds out of which they emerged. -- adapted from jacket

Book Scripture and Tradition Acadia Studies in Bible and Theology

Download or read book Scripture and Tradition Acadia Studies in Bible and Theology written by Edith M. Humphrey and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2013-04-15 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In some of the church's history, Scripture has been pitted against tradition and vice versa. Prominent New Testament scholar Edith Humphrey, who understands the issue from both Protestant and Catholic/Orthodox perspectives, revisits this perennial point of tension. She demonstrates that the Bible itself reveals the importance of tradition, exploring how the Gospels, Acts, and the Epistles show Jesus and the apostles claiming the authority of tradition as God's Word, both written and spoken. Arguing that Scripture and tradition are not in opposition but are necessarily and inextricably intertwined, Humphrey defends tradition as God's gift to the church. She also works to dismantle rigid views of sola scriptura while holding a high view of Scripture's authority.
