Book Teaching Your Child to Read

Download or read book Teaching Your Child to Read written by Jessica Wang and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2022-02-01 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is your young child often disinterested in the books you bring home for them? Do you wish they would develop a love for reading that they could take into middle school and beyond? Some children love reading, requesting the same books over and over again and giggling with delight each time, while others simply despise sitting down for story time. What makes the difference in these two types of children? No child is born knowing how to read, so where does their interest come from? How do you encourage it? Like eating and drinking, reading is a daily necessity for every child. Parents should consciously guide and conform to their children’s interest in reading with appropriate reading materials whenever possible. Books should take priority over watching television and playing video games. Professional and systematic training can help children start to love reading, maintain good reading habits, and improve their reading ability. Teaching Your Child to Read is a guide book for parents looking to get their children, ages 3 to 6, interested in reading. It explains how to help children cultivate reading ability step by step, as well as answers the questions of Why should I? and How do I? when it comes to specific exercises. Tools parents will learn to use in their efforts include: interval questioning object comparing emotional contrasting plot mapping and more!

Book Feeling Like a Kid

Download or read book Feeling Like a Kid written by Jerome Griswold and published by JHU Press. This book was released on 2006-12 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A lively and illustrated inquiry of how children's literature reflects the curious mind of a child—now available in paperback. Outstanding Academic Title for 2007, Choice Magazine In this engaging book, Jerry Griswold examines the unique qualities of childhood experience and their reappearance as frequent themes in children's literature. Surveying dozens of classic and popular works for the young—from Heidi and The Wizard of Oz to Beatrix Potter and Harry Potter—Griswold demonstrates how great children's writers succeed because of their uncanny ability to remember what it feels like to be a kid: playing under tables, shivering in bed on a scary night, arranging miniature worlds with toys, zooming around as caped superheroes, and listening to dolls talk. Feeling Like a Kid boldly and honestly identifies the ways in which the young think and see the world in a manner different from that of adults. Written by a leading scholar, prize-winning author, and frequent contributor to the Los Angeles Times, this extensively illustrated book will fascinate general readers as well as all those who study childhood and children's literature.

Download or read book Teaching Children to Read written by Great Britain. Parliament. House of Commons. Education and Skills Committee and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2005 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ability to read is the key to educational achievement, and poor literacy skills will limit a person's opportunities throughout life. The Committee's inquiry examines current practice in schools used to teach children to read, in order to consider which method works best based on available evidence. Recognition is given that the subject is a complex one and is also influenced by a range of factors outside a school's control. Issues discussed include the impact of the National Literacy Strategy (NLS); literacy teaching methods including the phonics method, which focuses on sound-letter correspondence; the need to promote reading for pleasure; research evidence findings; barriers to reading acquisition; learning difficulties and disabilities. Current statistics indicate that around 20 per cent of children aged 11 years still underachieve in reading and writing skills for their age level. The Committee's recommendations include the need for a review of the NLS prescribed methodology for the teaching of reading in primary schools, and that further large-scale comparative research should be commissioned by the DfES to determine which methods are most effective.
