Book A Little America in Western Australia

Download or read book A Little America in Western Australia written by Anthony J. Barker and published by Apollo Books. This book was released on 2015 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1963, the US Naval Communication Station at North West Cape in Western Australia became the first US defense facility to be established on Australian soil in peacetime. During America's Cold War struggle against communism, North West Cape's primary function was to communicate with the US fleet in the Indian and Western Pacific Oceans, especially nuclear missile submarines - the Navy's most powerful deterrent force. Seen as a vital outpost of US defense throughout the 1960s and 1970s, the whole venture was just as monumental for Australia. This book represents an important and long-overdue history of the significance of North West Cape for Australia-US relations and Australian politics, paying special attention to the town of Exmouth that was uniquely created to support the base. Drawing on archival records and oral interviews, A Little America in Western Australia brings to light the experiences of Australian civilians and US Navy personnel in a fascinating and often humorous portrait of life at the Cape. *** Librarians: ebook available on ProQuest and EBSCO *** "...welcome addition to military and nautical history collections, highly recommended especially for college library shelves." - Midwest Book Review, Library Bookwatch: September 2015, The Nautical Shelf [Subject: Military History, Naval Studies, US Studies, Australian Studies, Politics]

Book Brief Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Non Underweight Patients

Download or read book Brief Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Non Underweight Patients written by Glenn Waller and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-05-10 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most people with eating disorders struggle to find an effective therapy that they can access quickly. Brief Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Non-Underweight Patients: CBT-T for Eating Disorders presents a new form of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) that is brief and effective, allowing more patients to get the help that they need. CBT is a strongly supported therapy for all adults and many adolescents with eating disorders. This 10-session approach to CBT (CBT-T) is suitable for all eating disorder patients who are not severely underweight, helping adults and young adults to overcome their eating disorder. Using CBT-T with patients will allow clinicians to treat people in less time, shorten waiting lists, and see patients more quickly when they need help. It is a flexible protocol, which fits to the patient rather than making the patient fit to the therapy. Brief Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Non-Underweight Patients provides an evidence-based protocol that can be delivered by junior or senior clinicians, helping patients to recover and go on to live a healthy life. This book will appeal to clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, psychotherapists, dietitians, nurses, and other professionals working with eating disorders.

Book Kissing Can be Dangerous

Download or read book Kissing Can be Dangerous written by Criena Fitzgerald and published by ISBS. This book was released on 2006 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tuberculosis became a notifiable disease in 1902, and throughout history has been a major cause of mortality and morbidity in most communities around the world. 'It was like a leper's disease' was the response of an ex-tuberculosis sufferer when asked to describe his experience of having tuberculosis and the public's reaction to his illness. In the first half of the 20th century in Western Australia, the social consequences of tuberculosis were almost as confronting as the disease itself. Until the advent of chemotherapy in 1947, people with the disease were advised to adopt a way of living that would protect those with whom they came in contact. Kissing and close contact with a person infected with tuberculosis were absolutely forbidden. Using the oral histories of patients and doctors, as well as archival research, Kissing can be Dangerous reveals the way in which social and cultural perceptions of tuberculosis-as well as the biological effects-shaped the experience of the tuberculosis sufferer, and the response of public health departments to the disease. Also included are historical photographs and promotional materials from public health campaigns used by the Australian government.

Download or read book The Data Warehouse Lifecycle Toolkit written by Ralph Kimball and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-01-10 with total page 674 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A thorough update to the industry standard for designing, developing, and deploying data warehouse and business intelligence systems The world of data warehousing has changed remarkably since the first edition of The Data Warehouse Lifecycle Toolkit was published in 1998. In that time, the data warehouse industry has reached full maturity and acceptance, hardware and software have made staggering advances, and the techniques promoted in the premiere edition of this book have been adopted by nearly all data warehouse vendors and practitioners. In addition, the term "business intelligence" emerged to reflect the mission of the data warehouse: wrangling the data out of source systems, cleaning it, and delivering it to add value to the business. Ralph Kimball and his colleagues have refined the original set of Lifecycle methods and techniques based on their consulting and training experience. The authors understand first-hand that a data warehousing/business intelligence (DW/BI) system needs to change as fast as its surrounding organization evolves. To that end, they walk you through the detailed steps of designing, developing, and deploying a DW/BI system. You'll learn to create adaptable systems that deliver data and analyses to business users so they can make better business decisions.
