Book Well Test Analysis for Fractured Reservoir Evaluation

Download or read book Well Test Analysis for Fractured Reservoir Evaluation written by G. Da Prat and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1990-11-19 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main purpose of this book is to provide the reader with a basic understanding of the behaviour of fractured reservoirs, using evaluation techniques based on processing pressure and flow-rate data resulting from production testing. It covers the fundamental reservoir engineering principles involved in the analysis of fluid flow through fractured reservoirs, the application of existing models to field cases, and the evaluation and description of reservoirs, based on processed data from pressure and production tests. The author also discusses production decline analysis, the understanding of which is a key factor influencing completion or abandonment of a well or even a field. The theoretical concepts are presented as clearly and simply as possible in order to aid comprehension. The book is thus suitable for training and educational purposes, and will help the reader who is unfamiliar with the subject acquire the necessary skills for successful interpretation and analysis of field data. One of the most important features of the book is that it fills the gap between field operations and research, in regard to proper management of reservoirs. The book also contains a computer program (FORTRAN language) which can be incorporated in existing software designed for reservoir evaluation; type curves generation, test design and interpretation, can be achieved by using this program.Petroleum engineers, reservoir engineers, petroleum geologists, research engineers and students in these fields, will be interested in this book as a reference source. It can also be used as a text book for training production and reservoir engineering professionals. It should be available in university and oil company libraries.

Book Novel Integrated and Revolutionary Well Test Interpretation and Analysis

Download or read book Novel Integrated and Revolutionary Well Test Interpretation and Analysis written by Freddy Escobar and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2019-01-30 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The TDS technique is a practical, easy, and powerful tool for well test interpretation. It uses characteristic features and points found on the pressure derivative versus time plot, so that reservoir parameters can be easily calculated by using several analytic expressions. Most calculations can be verified more than once and applied to systems where the conventional straight-line method has no applications. This book deals with well tests run in elongated systems, partially completed/penetrated wells, multirate tests, hydraulically fractured wells, interference tests, and naturally fractured reservoirs. This technique is used in all commercial well-testing software. Its use is the panacea for well test interpretation and can also be extended to rate-transient analysis, although not shown here.

Book The Analysis and Prediction of Well Performance for Hydraulically Fractured Wells Using Reservoir Modelling Techniques

Download or read book The Analysis and Prediction of Well Performance for Hydraulically Fractured Wells Using Reservoir Modelling Techniques written by Gas Research Institute and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 1983, numerous cooperative research wells and Staged Field Experiments have been conducted in the Travis Peak formation in east Texas by the Gas Research Institute (GRI). Many of the wells analyzed have exhibited slow fracture fluid cleanup. In these cases, several days or weeks of flow were required after the treatment before significant gas flow was measured. For these same wells, post-fracture pressure buildup data were often difficult to analyze with confidence using conventional analysis methods. As such, a research project was undertaken to better understand post-fracture production and pressure transient behavior. The objective of the research project was to investigate fractures that affected fracture fluid injection, fracture fluid inhibition and fracture fluid cleanup in wells that are completed in low permeability gas reservoirs. It was also important to determine which of the factors most affected the analysis of post-fracture pressure transient data and the ultimate gas recovery. Before these items could be studied in detail, however, it was also necessary to learn how to model correctly these effects by taking into account factors such as formation damage, fracture conductivity damage, non-Darcy flow, relative permeability hysteresis and capillary pressure effects. The result of this research showed that fracture conductivity must be high enough to allow proper fracture fluid cleanup prior to running a pressure transient test. If the fracture has not cleaned up sufficiently, the incorrect result will be obtained from conventional pressure transient test methods. Even if most of the fluid has been cleaned up, the results obtained from conventional methods should only be considered first order approximations. The engineer must then take these estimates and use reservoir simulation methods to history match the production and pressure transient data in order to better analyze the formation and fracture properties. The research also demonstrated that producing a well on a small choke after a fracture treament will maximize ultimate gas recovery. If severe crushing of the proppant occurs due to rapid pressure drawdown, then fracture fluid can be trapped in and around the fracture which will tend to suppress gas production and reduce ultimate gas recovery. In summary, the reservoir engineering research has led to the conclusion that multilayered, multiphase reservoir systems such as are normally encountered in low permeability rocks are difficult to evaluate with accuracy unless multiphase, multilayered reservoir models are used to history match all of the available data.

Book Well Test Analysis for Hydraulically Fractured Wells

Download or read book Well Test Analysis for Hydraulically Fractured Wells written by Freddy Humberto Escobar and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This chapter focuses on the application of Tiab,Äôs direct synthesis (TDS) technique for practical and accurate interpretation of pressure tests on vertical wells in conventional reservoirs, so bilinear, linear, and elliptical flow regimes can be used for fracture characterization. Most fractured well interpretation tests are conducted using nonlinear regression analysis if the pressure model is available. This method has some drawbacks associated with the nonuniqueness of the solution. Also, the conventional straight-line method requires one plot for each individual flow regime observed in the pressure tests, and the estimated parameters cannot be verified. Tiab,Äôs direct synthesis (TDS) methodology, which uses specific lines and intersection points found on the pressure and pressure derivative plot, is used in some direct equations which are obtained from the solution of the diffusivity equation for a given flow regime. It has been proven to provide accurate results, and its power allows verification of most results which is not possible from any other technique. The methodology has been successfully explained and tested by its application in two examples, although there exists more than a hundred articles that provide many useful applications.

Book Exploitation of Unconventional Oil and Gas Resources

Download or read book Exploitation of Unconventional Oil and Gas Resources written by Kenneth Imo-Imo Israel Eshiet and published by . This book was released on 2019-07-10 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The stimulation of unconventional hydrocarbon reservoirs is proven to improve their productivity to an extent that has rendered them economically viable. Generally, the stimulation design is a complex process dependent on intertwining factors such as the history of the formation, rock and reservoir fluid type, lithology and structural layout of the formation, cost, time, etc. A holistic grasp of these can be daunting, especially for people without sufficient experience and/or expertise in the exploitation of unconventional hydrocarbon reserves. This book presents the key facets integral to producing unconventional resources, and how the different components, if pieced together, can be used to create an integrated stimulation design. Areas covered are as follows: • stimulation methods, • fracturing fluids, • mixing and behavior of reservoir fluids, • assessment of reservoir performance, • integration of surface drilling data, • estimation of geomechanical properties and hydrocarbon saturation, and • health and safety. Exploitation of Unconventional Oil and Gas Resources: Hydraulic Fracturing and Other Recovery and Assessment Techniques is an excellent introduction to the subject area of unconventional oil and gas reservoirs, but it also complements existing information in the same discipline. It is an essential text for higher education students and professionals in academia, research, and the industry.

Book excerpt: This book is designed to be a technical reference for engineers and technicians who interpret well tests. For each case examined, it describes the most suitable interpretation methods, such as traditional methods, type curves, computer-generated type curves, and interpretation using derivatives. It cites the equations used to interpret results, while avoiding detailed mathematical discussions. Nevertheless, as numerous references are provided, those who wish to can trace the solutions back to their origins. The book also indicates the conditions under which different methods are useful, and is illustrated with a large number of figures and practical examples. The text shows how the interpretation of a well test varies according to the type of reservoir limits (e.g., faults, channels, secant faults, constant pressure limits, closed reservoir, etc.), the well reservoir configuration (e.g., partial penetration wells, inclined wells, artificially fractured wells, horizontal wells, injection wells, etc.), and the nature of more complex reservoirs (fissured reservoirs, two-layered reservoirs). It indicates which methods to use when the fluid in a well is a gas or a polyphasic fluid. Lastly, it deals with tests applied to multiple wells, including interference tests and pulse tests.Contents: Principle: 1. Principles of well testing. 2. Wellbore storage. 3. Skin.
