Book excerpt: Describes a project that evaluated pre-seeding burn-off treatments for direct seeded special crops to screen herbicides and to evaluate a flax line resistant to soil residues of herbicides. The special crops studied included lentil, pea, canola, flax, sunola, chickpea, various herbs, and dry bean. Replicated field trials of appropriate designs were used to test various weed control treatments in small plot experiments at research centres near Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Emphasis in the trials was to determine the level of crop tolerance to the various herbicides.
