Book excerpt: Life doesn’t always go the way we hope it will. Whether it’s singleness, childlessness or some other big disappointment, it’s hard to be content when life lets us down. Author Jennie Pollock knows what it's like to feel discontent. With warmth and honesty, she answers common doubts that arise when life doesn't go the way we had hoped: Is God good? Is he enough? Is he worth it? She walks readers through the process of taking our eyes off the things we wish we had and instead enjoying the character of the God we do have—a God who is good, who meets all our needs, and whose promises are worth the wait. Drawing on encouragements from the Bible and the stories of others, this book helps readers to trust in God’s plan for their lives and enjoy true contentment through a genuine conviction that Jesus is better than even our most keenly-felt hopes and longings for this life.

Book We Re Just Passing Through

Download or read book We Re Just Passing Through written by Timothy Balmford and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2014-04-09 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We spend most of our lives placing value in meaningless things, believing that our happiness can only come as a result of objects and people found outside of ourselves. As a result, we lose sight of who we really are and why we are here. It is possible to experience love and joy in the moment of every single day, without worry, without guilt and without fear, which come as a result of being beset by external sources of unproven truths. This is a book about taking the time for yourself, everyday to remember those things which will allow you to see the beauty of who and what you really are: a light to shine for the world with pure joy, love and nothing more. Everything else is a false creation and an illusion which holds us back from experiencing the heaven on earth we were born to make for ourselves and others.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: IS IT TIME FOR A WAKE UP CALL? 'Just Passing Through' is a book designed to help us think about the ups and downs of our lives and where God stands in our lives at various times. It draws attention to the impact we may have on each other's lives, whether positive or negative, as we journey through this world. God gave us two phases of life, (1) our temporary life here on earth, in preparation for (2) our eternal life in the destination of our own choosing. Where are our earthly preparations leading us? Our lifetime here on earth is just a drop in the bucket compared to eternity, yet some go on nonchalantly living for now with little thought for the eternal afterlife. Why do we put so much emphasis on our short span of life in the here and now and so little emphasis on the eternity of life in the hereafter? This is a problem we tend to struggle with throughout our lives. Sometimes God is at the forefront and at other times, He is put on the back burner, not really forgotten, but just put aside for the time being. In other cases, He almost seems non-existent. 'Just Passing Through' is written for people of all ages who are struggling with their faith or just in need of a little encouragement to stay on track. It is aimed at helping us to think about where we are in life, what is truly important to us, where we are heading and how our decisions can affect future generations. If this concerns us, then perhaps we should take a look inside. We can make a difference....

Book I Was Just Passing Through

Download or read book I Was Just Passing Through written by Cassandra and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-05-16 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When I decided to write this autobiography, a strange feeling overcame me, wondering why I should reveal my innermost and carefully protected memories that had lain dormant for so many years and expose them now to the world. However, others kept encouraging me to share my saga of growing up during very difficult times in the world, as well as personal circumstances of instability in which I often felt like I was walking about in a haze. Jokes about blondes being dumb might have applied at times but do blondes really have more fun? I leave that to you, dear reader, to decide. This haze finally forced me to use an undeveloped creativity I never knew I had that led to amazing, unexpected and unusual events, and changed the direction of my life completely. My hope is that upon reading this, no matter how difficult and unfair life is or may seem to be, such moments can serve as stepping stones that force us to become creative in making make a life that becomes more exciting and worthwhile. We have the gift of life and there truly is no time like the present to hope and achieve for something better, whether young or elderly. Some of my finest accomplishments took place later in life. However, this book would never have been written without the help of others. Memories of loved ones who have passed on who taught and guided me out of a labyrinth of despair at times will forever remain in my heart as my greatest treasures. They are as live to me today in my memory as when they were here.

  • Pages : 242 pages

Download or read book A Sudden Glory written by Sharon Jaynes and published by Multnomah. This book was released on 2012-08-21 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do you long for something more in your relationship with God? The good news is that “something more” does not mean “doing more.” God is not waiting for you to get your spiritual life “right.” He wants to be with you right where you are. The real question is not “What does God want from you?” but “What does God want for you?” Sharon Jaynes understands what it’s like to have a “glory ache”—a longing to experience God’s presence on a daily basis. She also knows how easily working for God can get in the way of intimacy with God. And she’s discovered that we tend to make our faith journey much too hard. In A Sudden Glory, Sharon uses Scripture and story to help you erase the line between your “spiritual life” and your “daily life” as you enter the sanctuary of God’s presence even in the middle of your busy, messy day. Here you will find your eyes opened to moments of sudden glory in which the Creator assures you of His love as you live and move and have your being in Him. Here you will discover true freedom—the freedom of experiencing God in a deeper and more intimate way than ever before. Includes Bible study and discussion guide.

Book Just Passing Through

Download or read book Just Passing Through written by H. Peter Zell and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2020-09-28 with total page 729 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this updated and revised edition of Just Passing Through: A German American Family Saga, first published in 2011, the author tells the story of several generations of his unique but dysfunctional family spanning over a hundred years including the two world wars. Peter Zell was eight years old when World War II ended and in a prologue entitled A German - American Childhood recounts his boyhood experiences that included the apocalyptic firebombing of his hometown of Stuttgart by the western Allies, the postwar occupation of Germany, and his family’s emigration to America. The book centers on the author’s mother, whom her children called Mutti, and her ordeal during the Nazi era for having been married to a Jew, the son of prosperous Frankfurt business owners, with whom she had two children. With anti-Semitism on the rise in Germany, her husband decided to emigrate to America but Mutti chose to remain behind to take care of her ailing father. The couple had an amicable divorce and while her ex-husband took their son with him, their daughter remained with Mutti in Germany. Under the Nuremberg Laws of 1935, mother and daughter now found themselves classified as non-Aryans which meant that Mutti could not remarry while their teenage daughter, being half Jewish, was put in dire jeopardy of her life. At this point Mutti’s older brother, himself a dedicated National Socialist, proposed an unconventional solution that ensured her survival. Following his advice, she had more children, fathered by so-called Aryans, who were eventually all brought to America. The book follows the lives of the five siblings, all half-brothers and half-sisters, and their difficult relationships with each other as each seeks to achieve his or her version of the American Dream.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "There was this fierce knock at the door, my son came running into the house. All I could hear him saying was...they're all dead!!!" He murdered my daughters, my grandsons, my granddaughter, and left one grand son as the lone survivor of this horrible tragedy; then he killed himself. About the Book Finally, the passion t hat pushes to the next level is here. William Moten must write, to not do so is to steal from the world a very needed message. The message is that we are only passing through, we're not here to stay. The trials that we face should never force us to the point of quitting. If we forget that we are on the journey that God has mapped out, we will not understand how we can make it through. This book contains poetry and a story of how a little country boy made it through a very tough life. In his adulthood, just when he thought that he was on the winning side, something terrible happened, there was a mass murder. He states in his book, "Fate dealt me an unclear blow. I was confused and hurt, wanting to do something to bring my loved ones back. I wanted to wake up the next day and find that it was all a dream. Finally I came to grips with reality. My refuge is in knowing that I'm just passing through, going somewhere that must be better than here. Everyday I tell myself to hold on to the steering wheel while on this journey and when the road gets rough and bumpy don't try to exit off, just keep repeating to yourself I'm just passing through." 1 Peter 5:10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered awhile, make you perfect, establish, strengthen, settle you.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The COVID-19 pandemic left millions grieving their loved ones without the consolation of traditional ways of mourning. Patients were admitted to hospitals and never seen again. Social distancing often meant conventional funerals could not be held. Religious communities of all kinds were disrupted at the exact moment mourners turned to them for support. These unprecedented circumstances caused dramatic transformations of not only communal rituals but also how people make meaning after the losses of loved ones. Shattered Grief is an intimate portrait of how COVID-19 changed the ways Americans approach, understand, and mourn death. Based on extensive interviews incorporating a multitude of perspectives—including funerary and medical professionals, religious leaders, grief counselors, death doulas, spirit mediums, community organizers, and those who lost loved ones—it provides a snapshot of how people renegotiated spiritual and religious traditions, worldviews, identities, and communities during the deadliest pandemic in a century. Through these diverse and powerful voices, Natasha L. Mikles tells the story of spiritual innovation, religious change, and the struggle to achieve personal and national self-understanding against the backdrop of mass casualties. Compelling and accessible, Shattered Grief is an essential book for a range of readers interested in how we make sense of death and dying.
