Book Why Vegan Eating Ethically

Download or read book Why Vegan Eating Ethically written by Peter Singer and published by Liveright Publishing. This book was released on 2020-10-20 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a world reeling from a global pandemic, never has a treatise on veganism—from our foremost philosopher on animal rights—been more relevant or necessary. “Peter Singer may be the most controversial philosopher alive; he is certainly among the most influential.” —The New Yorker Even before the publication of his seminal Animal Liberation in 1975, Peter Singer, one of the greatest moral philosophers of our time, unflinchingly challenged the ethics of eating animals. Now, in Why Vegan?, Singer brings together the most consequential essays of his career to make this devastating case against our failure to confront what we are doing to animals, to public health, and to our planet. From his 1973 manifesto for Animal Liberation to his personal account of becoming a vegetarian in “The Oxford Vegetarians” and to investigating the impact of meat on global warming, Singer traces the historical arc of the animal rights, vegetarian, and vegan movements from their embryonic days to today, when climate change and global pandemics threaten the very existence of humans and animals alike. In his introduction and in “The Two Dark Sides of COVID-19,” cowritten with Paola Cavalieri, Singer excoriates the appalling health hazards of Chinese wet markets—where thousands of animals endure almost endless brutality and suffering—but also reminds westerners that they cannot blame China alone without also acknowledging the perils of our own factory farms, where unimaginably overcrowded sheds create the ideal environment for viruses to mutate and multiply. Spanning more than five decades of writing on the systemic mistreatment of animals, Why Vegan? features a topical new introduction, along with nine other essays, including: • “An Ethical Way of Treating Chickens?,” which opens our eyes to the lives of the birds who end up on so many plates—and to the lives of their parents; • “If Fish Could Scream,” an essay exposing the utter indifference of commercial fishing practices to the experiences of the sentient beings they scoop from the oceans in such unimaginably vast numbers; • “The Case for Going Vegan,” in which Singer assembles his most powerful case for boycotting the animal production industry; • And most recently, in the introduction to this book and in “The Two Dark Sides of COVID-19,” Singer points to a new reason for avoiding meat: the role eating animals has played, and will play, in pandemics past, present, and future. Written in Singer’s pellucid prose, Why Vegan? asserts that human tyranny over animals is a wrong comparable to racism and sexism. The book ultimately becomes an urgent call to reframe our lives in order to redeem ourselves and alter the calamitous trajectory of our imperiled planet.

Book ARE YOU A NOT SEE

    Book Details:
  • Author : Mister Gusano

  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 686 pages

Download or read book ARE YOU A NOT SEE written by Mister Gusano and published by No Pledge Publishing. This book was released on with total page 686 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are you a “Not-See”? Do you not see? Most historians did not see the amazing discoveries explained in this book about the academic work of Professor Dr. Rex Curry. Most people do not see it because they have been deceived by socialist schools (government schools) and the old media. The symbol on the cover of this book represents the “Not-See” movement. Modern political debates often describe the only two opposing alternatives as “Communists” versus “Nazis.” The description is a dishonest trick: the words “Communist” and “Nazi” are used to divert attention from the larger shared problem of “Socialism.” The famed Linguist Dr. Rex Curry exposed modern historical amnesia concerning Hitler’s vocabulary. Almost everyone (including every so-called "scholar") refers ignorantly to Hitler as a "Nazi" or a "Fascist" and not as a "Socialist." Educational Outreach Programs (EOPs) energized by Dr. Rex Curry's scholarship are the only services that inform benighted scholars that "Hitler self-identified as Socialist. He did not self-identify as Nazi, nor as Fascist". No other linguist provides this vital public awareness. So, if you ever see a sentence like the following one, then you know it was from EOPs for Dr. Curry's work: "Hitler didn't call himself Nazi or Fascist, he called himself Socialist". The linguistic EOPs above led to many amazing historical discoveries, including revelations about Anne Frank’s Diary; Adolf Hitler’s “Mein Kampf”; Sophie Scholl’s White Rose group; Joseph Goebbels’ “Der Nazi Sozi”; Martin Niemoller’s verse “First They Came For the Socialists”; the swastika symbol, the hexagram (Star of David), and how Hitler changed BOTH symbols together; the etymological history of “Roman Salute”; and much more! Except for the American Linguist Laureate Dr. Rex Curry, every other historian did not see how the USA’s Pledge of Allegiance led to Nazi salutes and Nazi behavior; and how the original pledge’s use of military salutes led to Nazi salutes. Also, historians did not see the similar symbolism of Adolf Hitler's NSV, SA, and SS logos, as compared with the logo of Hitler's party: the National Socialist German Workers Party. Even today, only exceptional scholars with extraordinary skills (e.g. Dr. Curry) are able to discern the “S”-letter shape of the NSV’s logo (The National Socialist People's Welfare; in German: Nationalsozialistische Volkswohlfahrt). The "S" symbolism is almost as difficult to perceive as in Hitler’s Hakenkreuz (hooked cross). It is as undetectable as in the symbols for the SS and SA (Schutzstaffel and Sturmabteilung). All historians (other than Dr. Curry) did not see how Hitler used his party's symbol to represent "S"-letter shapes for "SOCIALIST." Do you not see? Professor Curry transformed the culture of India along with Hinduism and Buddhism. Before Dr. Curry’s discoveries, Buddhists and Hindus published complaints that “Hitler stole their swastika symbol and ruined it and they want to restore respect for their ancient symbol.” Educational Outreach Programs (EOP) about Dr. Curry’s work taught India’s commentators that Hitler’s symbol was not a swastika, and that Hitler never called it a swastika. An upheaval occurred among Buddhists and Hindus in their objections. Now they proudly assert: “Hitler called his symbol a Hakenkreuz (hooked cross), not a swastika. It was not the same symbol. Dr. Curry told us!”

Book excerpt: The history of Pakistan's nuclear program is the history of Pakistan. Fascinated with the new nuclear science, the young nation's leaders launched a nuclear energy program in 1956 and consciously interwove nuclear developments into the broader narrative of Pakistani nationalism. Then, impelled first by the 1965 and 1971 India-Pakistan Wars, and more urgently by India's first nuclear weapon test in 1974, Pakistani senior officials tapped into the country's pool of young nuclear scientists and engineers and molded them into a motivated cadre committed to building the 'ultimate weapon.' The tenacity of this group and the central place of its mission in Pakistan's national identity allowed the program to outlast the perennial political crises of the next 20 years, culminating in the test of a nuclear device in 1998. Written by a 30-year professional in the Pakistani Army who played a senior role formulating and advocating Pakistan's security policy on nuclear and conventional arms control, this book tells the compelling story of how and why Pakistan's government, scientists, and military, persevered in the face of a wide array of obstacles to acquire nuclear weapons. It lays out the conditions that sparked the shift from a peaceful quest to acquire nuclear energy into a full-fledged weapons program, details how the nuclear program was organized, reveals the role played by outside powers in nuclear decisions, and explains how Pakistani scientists overcome the many technical hurdles they encountered. Thanks to General Khan's unique insider perspective, it unveils and unravels the fascinating and turbulent interplay of personalities and organizations that took place and reveals how international opposition to the program only made it an even more significant issue of national resolve. Book excerpt: Hippos Eat Grass is a witty, thought provoking, informative and surprising book that will change the way you see yourself and show the world that EVERYONE, no matter their shape or size, can truly be happy, inspired and successful. Just like the animal kingdom people are created differently. It is this variety that ensures that each person is unique and our world remains interesting and diverse. The pressure to conform to an unrealistic thin stereotype has caused people to become depressed, demoralized and diminished. This must stop. Size is one of the most blatant forms of discrimination that exists in our society today. Large people have become invisible yet they are among the most beautiful people on the planet. We are fed the myth that size is determined by diet and exercise but in reality we are much more a product of genetics, metabolism and astrological patterns. We are exactly as we were intended and perfect just as we are. At OUR best. Hippos Eat Grass is not a diet book but rather one of self acceptance, inspiration and understanding. We must love ourselves and appreciate our own inner and outer beauty, as well as that of others. It is time to revel in that beauty, whatever shape that may be. So for all those stunning, sexy, cuddly, curvaceous, generous-sized people who love how they look, or could learn to do, this book is for you.

Twenty-eight and single, Ruby doesn't believe a woman needs to be married in order to be happy. Her ailing friend Lovinia Fischer, however, has other ideas and wants Ruby to promise to marry her husband after she dies. Never imagining she'd have to fulfill that vow, Ruby agrees. And she's not the only one. Lovinia has extracted a similar promise from her husband, Gideon. With both Ruby and Gideon reluctant to keep their promises, a compromise must be reached. Ruby will spend her days with Gideon's family--helping to raise the children and keep the house--but her nights will be spent at her sister's neighboring house. But this arrangement raises eyebrows in their conservative Amish community, and it soon becomes clear that Ruby must make a decision--marry Gideon or turn her back on her friend, the children she's grown to love . . . and their father.
