Book We Are Wanderers We Are Seekers

Download or read book We Are Wanderers We Are Seekers written by Gary D. Bergthold and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2023-07-18 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Take a journey across five centuries and eighteen generations, to the heart of the Bergthold family legacy. This is the story of the Bergthold family’s search for freedom and opportunity. More deeply, it is the story of how their experiences shaped the lives and values that the family hold today. The story starts in Switzerland, with the Reformation. Bergtholds (or Berchtolds, as they may have been called then) had lived there years before Martin Luther broke with the Catholic Church. However, the stubbornness and independence of the Anabaptists led them to rebel against established authority. That rebellion led to persecution and motivated the families to move to places where they could live and prosper without oppression. Their journey to seek a better life led them from Switzerland to France, Germany, Ukraine, South Russia and finally to America in the late 1800s. The story of the Bergtholds is presented here as a combination of firsthand research, stories from community members, and additional information about Mennonites across generations. It is part travel memoir and part family history. It shows how the struggles of our ancestors affect us in every way: from the food we like to the decisions we make and the values we hold dear. It also includes text and photos of how the Bergthold families lived, from farming practices to hog butchering.

Book I Am A Witch I Choose Paganism

Download or read book I Am A Witch I Choose Paganism written by Dr. Isis Day and published by Isis Day Publishers. This book was released on 2021-05-30 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finally, a book about Witches, Pagans, Magic and Witchcraft you can gladly recommend or give to inquiring folks as a gift. ATTENTION !!! - A few lines, paragraphs or pages in this book may be somewhat strong or explicit, therefore Parental Guidance (PG) is suggested. "I'm tempted to say this is the best book by Dr. Isis Day - but not really, because each one of her books has something special and unique about it. However, I'd say that if you've not read any of her books before, this would be the best and first one to start with, then you can go read the others. 'I Am A Witch - I Choose Paganism,' is a very wonderful book worth reading over and over by both Pagans and non-Pagans, whether you're a Witch or not." --- Marie Guillaumes (Editor). "This book -- 'I Am A Witch - I Choose Paganism,' by Dr. Isis Day -- is the long-awaited book that sheds extra light on Paganism and Witchcraft. Every Pagan and every true student of occult wisdom should read this book asap, and everyone sincerely inquiring about Pagans, Witches, Magic and Witchcraft should also read it right away, and share it with friends too, and let the truth speak for itself. Blessed be!" --- The Illuminatista. Adapted from the book -- 'I Am A Witch - I Choose Paganism,' by Dr. Isis Day - Merry meet! Yep, the Witch is back, with more oomph to keep you witchy and pagan, while helping inquirers and seekers know a few things about us... People have formed all sorts of ill notions about Witches, Witchcraft, Magic and Pagans, and act on such preconceptions accordingly. So-called experts claim to know everything about Witches, when all they have is the backwater, storybook, movie, flea-market and superstitious distortions of the true definition of Witches and Pagans. But then, again, Witches, true and real Witches, are everywhere, in plain sight, yet invisible to the un-initiated... and with Paganism considered one of the fastest growing religions of today, the number will surely be forever on the increase. Hooray! People are finally seeing the light! Misinforming the public about Witches and Pagans has since been a strong, silent and invisible fist that some religions and individuals have used successfully to control, push out and pull in who they want, when and where and how they want it. Promise to protect people from Witches and they'll be yours to keep and sway as you please forever. A lot of the materials out there on Pagans and Witches are put out by non-Pagans who for the most part are anti-Pagans. So inquirers are actually more exposed to the wrong information -- data that has been primarily designed to malign Pagans, Witches, Wizards, Magic and Witchcraft - data whose ultimate purpose is to paint Pagans evil. Once in a while people ask me questions about Witches, Pagans, Magic and Witchcraft, and this book is very much in response to such questions.

Book Exiled Royalties Melville and the Life We Imagine

Download or read book Exiled Royalties Melville and the Life We Imagine written by Department of English Washington University Robert Milder Professor, St Louis and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2005-12-09 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exiled Royalties is a literary/biographical study of the course of Melville's career from his experience in Polynesia through his retirement from the New York Custom House and his composition of three late volumes of poetry and Billy Budd, Sailor. Conceived separately but narratively and thematically intertwined, the ten essays in the book are rooted in a belief that "Melville's work," as Charles Olson said, "must be left in his own 'life,'" which for Milder means primarily his spiritual, psychological, and vocational life. Four of the ten essays deal with Melville's life and work after his novelistic career ended with the The Confidence-Man in 1857. The range of issues addressed in the essays includes Melville's attitudes toward society, history, and politics, from broad ideas about democracy and the course of Western civilization to responses to particular events like the Astor Place Riots and the Civil War; his feeling about sexuality and, throughout the book, about religion; his relationship to past and present writers, especially to the phases of Euro-American Romanticism, post-Romanticism, and nascent Modernism; his relationship to his wife, Lizzie, to Hawthorne, and to his father, all of whom figured in the crisis that made for Pierre. The title essay, "Exiled Royalties," takes its origin from Ishmael's account of "the larger, darker, deeper part of Ahab"--Melville's mythic projection of a "larger, darker, deeper part" of himself. How to live nobly in spiritual exile--to be godlike in the perceptible absence of God--was a lifelong preoccupation for Melville, who, in lieu of positive belief, transposed the drama of his spiritual life to literature. The ways in which this impulse expressed itself through Melville's forty-five year career, interweaving itself with his personal life and the life of the nation and shaping both the matter and manner of his work, is the unifying subject of Exiled Royalties.

Book excerpt: Living History’s protagonists, Mia and Hugh, encounter a space vehicle that crashed in the mountains of the Pacific Northwest in the ninth century C.E. The problem is: they cannot remember this, when they find themselves in 9,000 B.C.E., where their long journey begins. Aimed at a short time before the crash to prevent the ship from crashing, their time travel is an experimental “shot in the dark,” but the experiment fails. However, as they struggle to stay alive, they are not without resources: the beings, who come to be called “cousins,” have implanted Nano technology in them to maintain their bodies and minds, but also an ability for to communicate without speech. In Mia, they provide a store of limited information, which includes a database of human languages but also information on the location of six research stations from which generations of cousins have monitored human evolution for millennia with periodic expeditions. These stations frame the plot as they learn how to use them while they travel the world interacting with people and cultures through deep time, and come to devise a plan to use their unique situation to prepare for the day when they return to current times to set in motion a series of events to transform radically the course of human history, sending humankind on a quest to recapture its lost kinship with the world that surrounds them. The only obstacle to their plan, besides the obvious hazards of such a long lifespan, is a branch species of humanity that has preyed upon humans for all time, and who have grown in numbers to threaten the very existence for all; blending into the human race in its long migration through time, they have become virtually invisible and wield great power. Mia and Hugh must counter the Kapalna’s growing interest in them in a final sprint to today, and a great awakening.

Upon noting that the seven-volume treasury was too large for individuals to purchase, he decided to publish smaller sections that are easier to read. “[Psalm 119], from its great length, helps us to wonder at the immensity of Scripture. From its keeping to the same subject it helps us to adore the unity of Scripture, for it is but one. Yet, from the many turns it gives to its one thought, it helps us to see the variety of Scripture. How manifold are the words and thoughts of God in his Word! Just as in creation, the wonders of his skill are displayed in many ways.” —Spurgeon Each section of this particular psalm begins with a letter in the Hebrew alphabet, earning it the nickname “The Golden Alphabet.” Readers can now enjoy reading Spurgeon’s personal thoughts and learn from his theological insight, breathing new life into this muchbeloved psalm.
