Book Wave Transmission by Overtopping

Download or read book Wave Transmission by Overtopping written by Ralph Herbert Cross and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report presents a theory for ocean wave transmission past breakwaters by overtopping, based on an evaluation of the energy content of the overtopping water. While several coefficients are subject to further investigation, the data shows that the general form of the equations developed is correct. Comparison of an intermediate theoretical result predicting the volume of overtopping water with published data again shows reasonable agreement. An envelope curve for the transmission coefficient, based on all available data, gives a simple tool for preliminary design estimates of the transmission coefficient. (Author).

Book Estimation of Wave Transmission Coefficients for Permeable Breakwaters

Download or read book Estimation of Wave Transmission Coefficients for Permeable Breakwaters written by William N. Seelig and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Madsen and White (1976) analytical model of wave transmission through permeable breakwaters is combined with a wave transmission by overtopping formula to provide a method of predicting wave transmission coefficients for permeable breakwaters. Comparison of this combined prediction technique with physical model laboratory tests shows that the technique is useful for estimating transmission coefficients for design. A computer program was found the most convenient method of making predictions. The computer program and an example showing program use are included in an Appendix. (Author).

Book Transmission of Wave Energy Through and Overtopping of the Long Beach California Breakwater

Download or read book Transmission of Wave Energy Through and Overtopping of the Long Beach California Breakwater written by Lyndell Z. Hales and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order to meet growing future demands, a 10- to 15-yr harbor expansion program for the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, Calif., has been designed to provide an increased amount of terminal space and berthing areas. This increased space will be developed by dredging and landfill construction in the Outer Harbor, with the landfill proposed to lie parallel with the San Pedro Bay middle breakwater for approximately 18,500 ft (14,000 ft being in the long Beach jurisdiction), leaving a 1,000-ft-wide channel between the breakwater and the landfill.

Book excerpt: This Proceedings contains 445 papers presented at the 30th International Conference on Coastal Engineering, which was held in San Diego, California, USA, 3-8 September 2006. The Proceedings is divided into five parts: Waves; Swash, Nearshore Currents, and Long Waves; Coastal Management, Risk, and Ecosystem Restoration; Sediment Transport and Morphology; and Coastal Structures. The individual papers cover a broad range of topics including theory, numerical and physical modeling, field measurements, case studies, design, and management. These papers provide engineers, scientists, and planners state-of-the-art information on coastal engineering and coastal processes.

Book Two dimensional Tests of Wave Transmission and Reflection Characteristics of Laboratory Breakwaters

Download or read book Two dimensional Tests of Wave Transmission and Reflection Characteristics of Laboratory Breakwaters written by William N. Seelig and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Monochromatic and irregular wave transmission and reflection measurements were made for various subaerial and submerged breakwater cross sections. These two-dimensional laboratory tests included smooth impermeable breakwaters, rubble-mound breakwaters, and breakwaters armored with dolos unit. Wave transmission by overtopping was found to be related to breakwater freeboard wave runup, and breakwater crest width; a method of estimating transmission by overtopping coefficients is presented. The Madsen and White (1976) numerical procedure was found to be an important tool for predicting the amount of transmission through permeable breakwaters. Suggested procedures for estimating transmission coefficients have been incorporated into the computer programs OVER and MADSEN (included as appendixes) and these programs may be used to predict wave transmission coefficients for nonbreaking, breaking, monochromatic, and irregular wave conditions. (Author).

Book Wave Induced Runup and Overtopping Transmission for Core Loc TM Armor Layers

Download or read book Wave Induced Runup and Overtopping Transmission for Core Loc TM Armor Layers written by and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wave-induced runup and wave transmission due to overtopping are two critical variables to be considered in design of coastal structures. Many studies have been performed on different armor units, but there is no generalized information available on CORE-LOC(TM) armor layer performance with respect to wave runup and transmission. Thus, an experimental study was performed to investigate the runup and transmission response of a CORE-LOC(TM) armor layer. Wave runup and transmitted wave heights were measured for a wide range of wave, water level, and structure conditions in order to develop predictive tools for CORE-LOC(TM) layer response. A new empirical model to predict runup levels was developed from an existing model for rock revetments. Furthermore, a semi-quantitative analysis of transmission data was conducted to give insight and guidance for design purposes.
