Book Electromagnetic Wave Propagation in Turbulence

Download or read book Electromagnetic Wave Propagation in Turbulence written by Richard J. Sasiela and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electromagnetic Wave Propagation in Turbulence is devoted to a method for obtaining analytical solutions to problems of electromagnetic wave propagation in turbulence. In a systematic way the monograph presents the Mellin transforms to evaluate analytically integrals that are not in integral tables. Ample examples of application are outlined and solutions for many problems in turbulence theory are given. The method itself relates to asymptotic results that are applicable to a broad class of problems for which many asymptotic methods had to be employed previously.

Book Advances In Wave Turbulence

Download or read book Advances In Wave Turbulence written by Victor Shrira and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2013-05-10 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wave or weak turbulence is a branch of science concerned with the evolution of random wave fields of all kinds and on all scales, from waves in galaxies to capillary waves on water surface, from waves in nonlinear optics to quantum fluids. In spite of the enormous diversity of wave fields in nature, there is a common conceptual and mathematical core which allows to describe the processes of random wave interactions within the same conceptual paradigm, and in the same language. The development of this core and its links with the applications is the essence of wave turbulence science (WT) which is an established integral part of nonlinear science. The book comprising seven reviews aims at discussing new challenges in WT and perspectives of its development. A special emphasis is made upon the links between the theory and experiment. Each of the reviews is devoted to a particular field of application (there is no overlap), or a novel approach or idea. The reviews cover a variety of applications of WT, including water waves, optical fibers, WT experiments on a metal plate and observations of astrophysical WT.

Book Wave Propagation and Scattering in Random Media

Download or read book Wave Propagation and Scattering in Random Media written by Akira Ishimaru and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wave Propagation and Scattering in Random Media, Volume 2, presents the fundamental formulations of wave propagation and scattering in random media in a unified and systematic manner. The topics covered in this book may be grouped into three categories: waves in random scatterers, waves in random continua, and rough surface scattering. Random scatterers are random distributions of many particles. Examples are rain, fog, smog, hail, ocean particles, red blood cells, polymers, and other particles in a state of Brownian motion. Random continua are the media whose characteristics vary randomly and continuously in time and space. Examples are clear air turbulence, jet engine exhaust, tropospheric and ionospheric turbulence, ocean turbulence, and biological media such as tissue and muscle. Rough surface examples are the ocean surface, planetary surfaces, interfaces between different biological media, and the surface roughness of an optical fiber. This book is intended for engineers and scientists interested in optical, acoustic, and microwave propagation and scattering in atmospheres, oceans, and biological media, and particularly for those involved in communication through such media and remote sensing of the characteristics of these media.

Book Propagation of Electromagnetic Waves Through Turbulent Media Using Transport Theory

Download or read book Propagation of Electromagnetic Waves Through Turbulent Media Using Transport Theory written by Ronald Louis Fante and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transport methods have been employed to study the propagation of a narrow-angle electromagnetic beam through a turbulent medium. Results are presented for the mean-square angular divergence of the beam, cross section of the beam, and the power received by a planar aperture in the medium. The problem of back-scattered radiation is also considered and results are obtained which reduce, in the limit of zero true absorption, to previous results. (Author).

Download or read book Diffuse Waves in Complex Media written by Jean-Pierre Fouque and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The NATO Advanced Study Institute on Diffuse Waves in Complex Media was held at the "Centre de Physique des Houches" in France from March 17 to 27, 1998. The Schools' scientific content, wave propagation in heterogeneous me dia, has covered many areas of fundamental and applied research. On the one hand, the understanding of wave propagation has considerably improved during the last thirty years. New developments and concepts such as, speckle correlations, weak and strong localization, time reversal, near-field propagation are under active research. On the other hand, wave propagation in random media is now being investigated in many different fields such as applied mathematics, acoustics, optics, atomic physics, geo physics or medical sciences. Each community often uses its own langage to describe the same phenomena. The aim of the School was to gather worldwide specialists to illuminate various aspects of wave propagation in random media. This volume presents fourteen expository articles corresponding to courses and seminars given during the School. They are arranged as follows. The first three articles deal with the phenomena of localization of waves: B. van Tiggelen (p. 1) gives a critical review of the physics of localization, J. Lacroix (p. 61) presents the mathematical theory and A. Klein (p. 73) describes recent results for randomized periodic media.

Book Mutual Coherence Function of a Beam Propagating in a Turbulent Medium

Download or read book Mutual Coherence Function of a Beam Propagating in a Turbulent Medium written by Ronald Louis Fante and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using transport theory the mutual coherence function of a beam propagating in a turbulent medium has been studied in detail, including the effect of the beam size, focal length and strength of the turbulence. The most detailed results are obtained for the MCF when the fluctuations have a Gaussian spectrum, but simple closed-form asymptotic results have also been obtained when the spectrum is a von Karman.
