Book Water Permeance of Masonry

Download or read book Water Permeance of Masonry written by JW. Ribar and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sixty-four walls were built and tested in accordance with ASTM Test for Water Permeance of Masonry (E 514). All M, S, and N mortar combinations shown in the Proportion Specification of ASTM Specification for Mortar for Unit Masonry (C 270) were used, including prepackaged M and S mortars in combination with concrete and clay masonry units, each from a single source. Research was directed at establishing the effects on masonry wall water permeance of mortar water content, cementitious material content of mortar, masonry unit physical properties, the effect of storage (curing), and exposure condition (varying water quantity and pressure. Test results showed that (1) all mortar types are capable of satisfactory performance in a masonry wall; (2) properly designed masonry walls are capable of resisting water permeance when quality workmanship and materials are used; (3) there is a need for specific controls in the preparation of specimens to be subjected to this test method; and (4) there is a need for revisions to ASTM E 514 that will incorporate a more realistic approach to exposure conditions and specific requirements to differentiate among specimens being tested for workmanship or materials.

Book A Method to Determine Efflorescence and Water Permeance of Masonry Mortars

Download or read book A Method to Determine Efflorescence and Water Permeance of Masonry Mortars written by HA. Harris and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A laboratory test procedure to measure the efflorescence and water permeance of masonry mortars is presented. Quantitative and qualitative values of the efflorescence growth compounds can be measured using a technique that accelerates their development in a controlled laboratory environment. Using this same simple test apparatus, a minor change in testing procedures will also provide quantitative data on the water permeance of masonry mortars.

Book A Critical Review of Field Adapting ASTM E 514 Water Permeability Test Method

Download or read book A Critical Review of Field Adapting ASTM E 514 Water Permeability Test Method written by MT. Brown and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper investigates the use of a field adapted ASTM E 514 water permeability test which is currently used by masonry consultants to document moisture penetration problems in brick masonry. There is a growing debate of whether this adapted test method can appropriately be used to decide if a masonry wall is considered a failure regarding moisture penetration.

Book Initial Effects of Clear Coatings on Water Permeance of Masonry

Download or read book Initial Effects of Clear Coatings on Water Permeance of Masonry written by RH. Brown and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The results of water permeance tests on twelve walls before and after coating with a proprietary clear water repellant are reported. Half of the single-wythe walls were brick; and other half, normal-weight concrete masonry units. Half of the walls used masonry cement mortar; the other half, portland cement-lime mortar. Comparison of results revealed a significant reduction in the amount of leakage, an increase in the amount of time required to achieve maximum rate of leakage, and a decrease in the percentage of damp area as a result of the application of the coating. The walls will be retested after six months of outdoor exposure.

Book Measuring Water Permeability of Masonry Walls

Download or read book Measuring Water Permeability of Masonry Walls written by Harry Hochman and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Dunwell procedure for determining the water permeability of masonry walls was modified so that it improved reproducibility, decreased the testing time from 3 to 4 days to less than one hour and did not mar the painted surface. These improvements resulted from the elimination of the possibility of air entrapment in the reservoir and finding a sealant that produces a leak-free system immediately and could be washed off with common solvents.
