Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The gal with the worst luck in the world... Maggie never had any intention of getting mixed up with the Bridal Pact, the Phaeton's, or all the crap that came with volunteering for the government's mail-order bride program. She was perfectly content inside her little bubble. She had her handmade jewelry business and her beloved rescue dog, and she was the honorary auntie to the cutest kid in existence. There is no way she was about to rock the boat by getting involved in any Phaeton business. None whatsoever. Unfortunately, the Verge didn't get that memo. Thinking she knows more than she actually does about the recent attack on the Bridal Pact’s Intake Center, they took it upon themselves to tie her up as one of their loose ends. Literally. A glaring testament to her rotten luck. A warrior who only wanted to right his wrongs.... Hix, a newly christened Verge warrior, realized he made a mistake the minute he left his Phaeton brothers behind when he defected. With regrets heavy in his chest, he tries to make the best of a bad situation while struggling with his new identity. Plans change, however, when he’s tricked into participating into the abduction of an innocent human female. Enthralled with the raspy-voiced captive, Hix knows that he will do anything to keep her safe. Working to save not only themselves, but others, Hix and Maggie are unable to deny the chemistry between them. As a firm believer in fate, Hix knows that they are exactly where they are supposed to be...now he must convince his future bride that she belongs with him.

Download or read book Warriors of Phaeton Axis written by Leora Gonzales and published by Leora Gonzales. This book was released on 2020-11-03 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the Phaeton’s master interrogator, Axis was often called upon to handle the most difficult missions. His natural ability to sniff out lies, plus his intense training, had never let him down. Until it did. Questioning his place amongst the brethren he’d failed, the Skrammon warrior has been living on the planet Euphoria in the Pleasure Sector trying to work through his mistakes. Although technically on leave, the Phaeton Council requested one small favor in exchange for the free time he’d been granted. Keep an eye out for anything unusual. Nova Rodriguez is more than a little unusual, and that’s not counting the fact that she’s a human imprisoned in a space brothel. The details on how she ended up in a whorehouse versus her original destination are more than a little murky, but one thing is completely clear: she needs to get the f$#% off this planet before Cruum, the gross alien master with a penchant for torture, sells her off to the highest bidder. With sheer determination, the help of a couple of sex kittens, and a list of rules to live by, Nova comes up with a plan: find a Phaeton—preferably the one she’d seen in the market and can’t stop thinking about—and convince him to help her. Not only does her life depend on it, so do the lives of the other two women Cruum has already sold. Trigger Warning: dark content, escape from trafficking

Book The Last Samurai

  • Author : Mark Ravina
  • Publisher : Wiley + ORM
  • Release : 2011-03-29
  • ISBN : 1118045564
  • Pages : 222 pages

Download or read book The Last Samurai written by Mark Ravina and published by Wiley + ORM. This book was released on 2011-03-29 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The dramatic arc of Saigo Takamori's life, from his humble origins as a lowly samurai, to national leadership, to his death as a rebel leader, has captivated generations of Japanese readers and now Americans as well - his life is the inspiration for a major Hollywood film, The Last Samurai, starring Tom Cruise and Ken Watanabe. In this vibrant new biography, Mark Ravina, professor of history and Director of East Asian Studies at Emory University, explores the facts behind Hollywood storytelling and Japanese legends, and explains the passion and poignancy of Saigo's life. Known both for his scholarly research and his appearances on The History Channel, Ravina recreates the world in which Saigo lived and died, the last days of the samurai. The Last Samurai traces Saigo's life from his early days as a tax clerk in far southwestern Japan, through his rise to national prominence as a fierce imperial loyalist. Saigo was twice exiled for his political activities -- sent to Japan's remote southwestern islands where he fully expected to die. But exile only increased his reputation for loyalty, and in 1864 he was brought back to the capital to help his lord fight for the restoration of the emperor. In 1868, Saigo commanded his lord's forces in the battles which toppled the shogunate and he became and leader in the emperor Meiji's new government. But Saigo found only anguish in national leadership. He understood the need for a modern conscript army but longed for the days of the traditional warrior. Saigo hoped to die in service to the emperor. In 1873, he sought appointment as envoy to Korea, where he planned to demand that the Korean king show deference to the Japanese emperor, drawing his sword, if necessary, top defend imperial honor. Denied this chance to show his courage and loyalty, he retreated to his homeland and spent his last years as a schoolteacher, training samurai boys in frugality, honesty, and courage. In 1876, when the government stripped samurai of their swords, Saigo's followers rose in rebellion and Saigo became their reluctant leader. His insurrection became the bloodiest war Japan had seen in centuries, killing over 12,000 men on both sides and nearly bankrupting the new imperial government. The imperial government denounced Saigo as a rebel and a traitor, but their propaganda could not overcome his fame and in 1889, twelve years after his death, the government relented, pardoned Saigo of all crimes, and posthumously restored him to imperial court rank. In THE LAST SAMURAI, Saigo is as compelling a character as Robert E. Lee was to Americans-a great and noble warrior who followed the dictates of honor and loyalty, even though it meant civil war in a country to which he'd devoted his life. Saigo's life is a fascinating look into Japanese feudal society and a history of a country as it struggled between its long traditions and the dictates of a modern future.
