Download or read book Pantha The Goddess and the Dangerous Game written by Brandon Jerwa and published by Dynamite Entertainment. This book was released on 2013-10-09 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Collects Pantha 1-6! This story presents Pantha as the last living avatar of the Egyptian goddess Sekhmet. Commanded by Ra to walk the earth for all eternity as atonement for Sekhmet's transgressions in life, Pantha seeks out evil in all its guises. With the power to transform from a beautiful woman into a feral panther, this is one super-heroine who is much more than just a pretty face. Writer Brandon Jerwa and artist Pow Rodrix clearly enjoy playing with these characters, delivering a pulpy, Roger Corman-esque adventure that brings all the necessary action, intrigue, and characterization that comic readers crave...without forgetting that comics can be fun sometimes, too.
Download or read book Richard Wagner written by Raymond Furness and published by Reaktion Books. This book was released on 2013-07-15 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With their complex textures, rich harmonies, and elaborate use of leitmotifs, the operas of German composer Richard Wagner (1813–83) remain some of the most influential—and contentious—in the history of the genre. But while he won renown with what he achieved on the stage, his life was marked by political exile, turbulent love affairs, and poverty. And because Wagner and his music are exceedingly intertwined with the great upheavals of his time, it is difficult to produce an impartial assessment of his output. Appearing at the bicentennial of his birth, Richard Wagner provides a clear and balanced view of both Wagner’s great successes and the controversies generated by his life and art. Using Wagner’s wide-ranging engagement with mythology as a starting point, Raymond Furness explores the composer’s music and prose writings. He delves deeply into Wagner’s essential operas, such as The Ring and Tristan and Isolde, offering fascinating insight into these works. Because the great operatic pieces often overshadow the rest of Wagner’s compositions, Furness also considers neglected fragments like “Wieland the Smith,” “The Mines at Falun,” and “The Visitors,” producing a more rounded critical picture of the composer. With up-to-date dissections of recent Bayreuth productions and a refreshingly uncluttered approach to a much-misunderstood life, Richard Wagner is an engaging look at one of music’s most beguiling figures.

Download or read book Feeling Film written by Beth Carroll and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-11-25 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book questions the de facto dominance of narrative when watching films. Using the film musical as a case study, this book explores whether an alternative spatial understanding of film can offer alternative readings to narrative. For instance, how do film aesthetics influence our interaction with the film? Can camera movement and music make us ‘feel’ cinema? Can the film world bleed into our own? Utilising film musicals ranging from those by Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers to von Trier’s Dancer in the Dark (2000), Feeling Film: A Spatial Approach investigates how we might go about understanding the audience's spatial relationship with film aesthetics, what it might look like, and the tools needed to conduct analysis.
Download or read book Understanding Luminescence Spectra and Efficiency Using Wp and Related Functions written by Charles W. Struck and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are both a remote and a proximate history in the development of this book. We would like to acknowledge first the perceptiveness of the technical administrators at RCA Laboratories, Inc. during the 1970s, and in particular Dr. P. N. Yocom. Buoyed up by the financial importance of yttrium oxysulfide: europium as the red phosphor of color television tubes, they allowed us almost a decade of close cooperation aimed at understanding the performance of this phosphor. It is significant that we shared an approach to research in an industrial laboratory which allowed us to avoid the lure of "first-principles" approaches (which would have been severely premature) and freed us to formulate and to study the important issues directly. We searched for a semiquantitative understanding of the properties observed in luminescence, i. e. , where energy absorption occurs, where emission occurs, and with what efficiency this conversion process takes place. We were aware that the nonradi ative transition rates found in practice vary enormously with temperature and, for a given activator, with small changes in its environment. We traced the source of this enormous variation to the magnitude of the vibrational overlap integrals, which have strong dependences on the rearrangements occurring during optical transitions and on the vibrational number of the initial electronic state. We were willing to excise from the problem the electronic aspects - the electronic wavefunctions' and their transition integrals -by treating them as parameters to be obtained from the experimental data.

Download or read book The Perfect Wagnerite A Commentary On The Niblung s Ring written by Bernard Shaw and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2023-12-01 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bernard Shaw's "The Perfect Wagnerite: A Commentary on the Ring of the Niblung" is a major work. This book offers an in-depth examination of Richard Wagner's famous opera cycle "Der Ring des Nibelungen." Shaw's commentary delves into the complex strata of Wagner's magnum opus, providing a multidimensional assessment that goes beyond typical music analysis. He introduces readers to Wagnerian mythology, complex character relationships, and the overarching plot, frequently through the lens of socialism and revolutionary thought. Shaw's opinion that the Ring Cycle might be viewed as a parable for societal reform is one of his core arguments. He sees the demise of the gods and the return of the ring to the Rhine as a metaphor for the inevitable collapse of repressive society systems and the possibility of a more egalitarian future. Shaw's distinct wit and intellectual depth shine through throughout the book as he connects with Wagner's work. His commentary extends beyond musical criticism to include political and philosophical implications. Shaw's approach encourages readers to evaluate Wagner's music dramas in the light of a broader cultural and historical backdrop. In conclusion, George Bernard Shaw's "The Perfect Wagnerite" is a thought-provoking and enduring investigation of Wagner's vast operatic masterpiece, providing readers with a novel perspective that mixes musical analysis with socio-political criticism.

Book excerpt: The case of Wagner recounted here, first completed in August 2008, collects fragments from handwritten notebooks kept in the years following Wagner's death. The resulting manuscript works as a poem of scenes and stories hinging on the day Wagner accidentally severed part of his finger as a child. The effects of this trauma echo across generations of Wagners, following them as they migrate to America and gradually begin to absorb its disembodied soul.

Download or read book Marriott s Practical Electrocardiography written by Galen S Wagner and published by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins. This book was released on 2013-12-18 with total page 552 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "One of the strengths of Marriott's Practical Electrocardiography through its more than 50-year history has been its lucid foundation for understanding the basis for ECG interpretation. Again, in this revision, we have attempted to retain the best of the Marriott tradition--emphasis on the concepts required for everyday ECG interpretation and the simplicities, rather than complexities, of the ECG recordings. During preparation of the 9th and 10th editions, Tobin Lim coauthored many of the 11th edition chapters and served as the primary developer of the digital content associated with that edition. Tobin Lim's input continues into this 12th edition, and David Strauss has led even further into the electronic-based interactive learning experiences. More than 30 of the figures that evolved through previous editions have now been converted through the creative expertise of Mark Flanders into animated movies accessed via QR codes imbedded in the book. David has also collaborated with electrocardiographic educators who are especially skilled in e-based education to add interactive video content to many of the 12th edition chapters. Each of the now 24 chapters is divided (as indicated in the table of contents) into discrete, compact "learning units." Each learning unit begins on a new page to provide blank space for the reader's notes. The purpose of the learning units is to make this book easier to use by allowing the reader to be selective regarding the material to be considered at a particular time. Because the modern student of electrocardiography is primarily oriented to a visual perspective, we have typically begun each page with an illustration"--Provided by publisher.
