Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of my mother's favorite lines is "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." The principle still rings true, but there's a difference between being nice and being taken advantage of. We sometimes find it difficult to say no. Whatever the reason we can't say no, I'm here to tell us that we can. We can change our situations if we determine that we are ready to. If you are ready for change, I hope that you will engross yourself on this journey of finding your voice. This workbook is meant for anyone who feels beaten down by life. Jesus knows all about you. He is calling you to draw closer to Him and receive His Spirit. He will fill you with a boldness that you have never known (Ephesians 1:18). He already gave you the strength to go through this process (Isaiah 41:10). You are never alone. God is everything you need.During this process, God will reveal things to us that we couldn't see before. We all have mountaintop and valley experiences. He promises to be with us through them all. This workbook will also help us to understand the people around us but use this workbook to understand you first. We need to be able to heal in order to help others.Voices Lost, Spirit Found takes you through a journey of discovering some reasons for repressed emotions. Revealing some unhealthy coping mechanisms is the next step. The final step is to give some healthy coping mechanisms to replace the unhealthy ones. I know you don't like where you are because you're looking for answers. I pray you find the answers through this workbook and prayer. Book Losing My Voice to Find It

Download or read book Losing My Voice to Find It written by Mark Stuart and published by Thomas Nelson. This book was released on 2019-11-05 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The incredible story of a lead singer's rise to fame and his crushing fall when he lost his singing voice, his career, and his marriage--and then found a new calling more in tune with God than he ever thought possible. Mark Stuart was the front man of popular Christian rock band, Audio Adrenaline, at a time when the Christian music scene exploded. Advancing from garage band to global success, the group sold out stadiums all over the world, won Grammy Awards, and even celebrated an album going certified Gold. But after almost twenty years, Mark's voice began to give out. When doctors diagnosed him with a debilitating disease, the career with the band he'd founded and dedicated his life to building was gone. Then to his shock, his wife ended their marriage, and Mark believed he'd lost everything. Unsure of his future, Mark traveled to Haiti to help with the band's ministry, the Hands and Feet Project. When the devastating 2010 earthquake hit, media learned he was present and sought him out for interviews. Ironically, Mark became the scratchy voice for the struggling Haitians, drawing the world's attention to their dire circumstances. In the process, Mark found a greater purpose than he'd ever known before. In this gripping, compelling new book, Mark Stuart overlays his story with passages from the gospel of John, urging his readers to listen for God's voice and to embrace his big love that calls us into a big life.

Book excerpt: Dynamic, Never-Before-Published Work on the Holy Spirit from A.W. Tozer What does it mean to have the Holy Spirit in our lives? Many look to extraordinary experiences and manifestations as evidence of the Spirit. But what happens when the event is over? How can we experience the Holy Spirit in the ordinary, everyday world? How can we be filled with the Spirit? In this material taken from Tozer's sermons, he answers these questions and explores life in the Spirit from a balanced perspective. The church needs the gifts of the Spirit--all of them--or it will never be what God intends it to be. But this has to happen in wisdom and humility. Many people talk about being filled with the Holy Spirit, but very few accept the conditions for being filled. Tozer lays down requirements for the Holy Spirit to come into our lives and transform us into Spirit-filled people. Though every Christian has the Holy Spirit, not every Christian is filled with the Holy Spirit. He explains the difference and how it could change the evangelical church of today.

Book excerpt: Is love eternal? Imagine waking up from a dream about trusting your heart and having a spirit introduce herself as your guide. Later you discover that you are actually eternally connected to her through a bond of love that is not easily described or understood in earthly terms. The book is the personal tale of the author's spiritual awakening. It is also the story of how he left his conservative religious upbringing only to learn much later that love is greater than any force on earth. Sometimes, love can be so powerful that it allows a soul on the other side of the veil to reach through and help course correct when life on this earth is headed in the wrong direction. When we come into this life, we carry with us on a soul level a definite set of plans for everything we want to accomplish, the obstacles we want to overcome, and the ones whom we have promised to help along the way. Because we cannot directly access those plans and are learning to assimilate into our new lives, finding our soul path is complicated. For some, the understanding of purpose comes very quickly. Others must spend years clearing out the clutter accumulated as they learn to survive in their environment. Once the energy begins to clear, and we strip away everything, we realize that only love is left. This book is about love and how it can change even the most lost souls, for it is love that powers the Universe.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Where was God in the sixth-century destruction of Jerusalem? The Hebrew Bible compositions written during and around the sixth century BCE provide an illuminating glimpse into how ancient Judeans reconciled the major qualities of God—as Lord, fierce warrior, and often harsh rather than compassionate judge—with the suffering they were experiencing at the hands of the Neo-Babylonian empire, which had brutally destroyed Judah and deported its people. Voices from the Ruins examines the biblical texts “explicitly and directly contextualized by those catastrophic events”—Kings, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Lamentations, and selected Psalms—to trace the rich, diverse, and often-polemicized discourse over theodicy unfolding therein. Dalit Rom-Shiloni shows how the “voices from the ruins” in these texts variously justified God in the face of the rampant destruction, expressed doubt, and protested God’s action (and inaction). Rather than trying to paper over the stark theological differences between the writings of these sixth-century historiographers, prophets, and poets, Rom-Shiloni emphasizes the dynamic of theological pluralism as a genuine characteristic of the Hebrew Bible. Through these avenues, and with her careful, discerning textual analysis, she provides readers with insight into how the sufferers of an ancient national catastrophe wrestled with the difficult question that has accompanied tragedies throughout history: Where was God?

  • Pages : 278 pages

Download or read book Embodied Voices written by Leslie C. Dunn and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1994 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a material link between body and culture, self and other, the voice has been endlessly fascinating to artists and critics. Yet it is the voices of women that have inspired the greatest fascination, as well as the deepest ambivalence, because the female voice signifies sexual otherness as well as sexual and cultural power. Embodied Voices explores cultural manifestations of female vocality in the light of current theories of subjectivity, the body and sexual difference. The fourteen essays collected here examine a wide spectrum of discourses, including myth, literature, music, film, psychoanalysis, and critical theory. Though diverse in their critical approaches, the essays are united in their attempt to articulate the compelling yet problematic intersections of gender, voice, and embodiment as they have shaped the textual representation of women and women's self-expression in performance.

Download or read book Possessed Voices written by Ruthie Abeliovich and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2019-07-01 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finalist for the 2020 Jordan Schnitzer Book Award in the category of Jews and the Arts: Music, Performance, and Visual presented by the Association for Jewish Studies Possessed Voices tells the intriguing story of a largely unknown collection of audio recordings, which preserve performances of modernist interwar Hebrew plays. Ruthie Abeliovich focuses on four recordings: a 1931 recording of The Eternal Jew (1919/1923), a 1965 recording of The Dybbuk (1922), a 1961 radio play of The Golem (1925), and a 1952 radio play of Yaakov and Rachel (1928). Abeliovich traces the spoken language of modernist Hebrew theater as grounded in multiple modalities of expressive practices, including spoken Hebrew, Jewish liturgical sensibilities supplemented by Yiddish intonation and other vernacular accents, and in relation to prevalent theatrical forms. The book shows how these recorded performances provided Jewish immigrants from Europe with a venue for lamenting the decline of their home communities and for connecting their memories to the present. Analyzing sonic material against the backdrop of its artistic, cultural, and ideological contexts, Abeliovich develops a critical framework for the study of sound as a discipline in its own right in theater scholarship.
