Book Vocational Training and Job Creation Schemes in the Countries of the European Community

Download or read book Vocational Training and Job Creation Schemes in the Countries of the European Community written by Michael Bolle and published by Berlin : European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training. This book was released on 1987 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comparison study is based on individual studies of different countries on the subject of "Vocational Training and Job Creation Programmes" carried out by well-known German research institutes. It established the different types of job creation schemes in operation in the Member States of the European community. It investigated the linkage of job creation programs with vocational training and evaluated the effects and conclusions of policies on the labor market and vocational training. Three forms of labor market-oriented and vocational training programs were differentiated: employment-oriented, training-oriented, and autonomy-oriented (advocacy of entrepreneurship) job creation schemes. Evaluation was based on three criteria resulting from the economic and social rationales behind the objectives of the schemes: orientation toward the target groups, assessment of output orientation/allocative efficiency, and form of training. In the main, designs of job creation programs were found to neglect the allocative aspect. The weak points in the linkage between job creation schemes and vocational training were even more pronounced. In the majority of programs, the training function had hardly been taken into account at all. Job creation schemes were seen as having great possibilities if more effective combinations of employment effects, demand-oriented work, and vocational training were aimed at and achieved. (Appendixes include a list of abbreviations, glossary, a selected literature listing, and an overview of job creation schemes.) (YLB)

Book Women and European Employment

Download or read book Women and European Employment written by Colette Fagan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-04-08 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first comprehensive and up-to-date study of the contribution of women and men to changing European economic activity patterns covering all fifteen member states. Based on the work of the European Commission's network of experts on women's employment, it draws on both national and European data sources. The book links trends in the structures of employment with new comparative data on the role of systems of welfare provision in order to explore economic activity patterns by gender. Participation patterns of women still vary widely within Europe, so much attention is paid to the institutions - both in the labour market and welfare - which help to explain these variations.

Book Young Adults and Active Citizenship

Download or read book Young Adults and Active Citizenship written by Natasha Kersh and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-04-21 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book sheds light on a range of complex interdependencies between adult education, young adults in vulnerable situations and active citizenship. Adult education has been increasingly recognized as a means to engage and re-engage young adults and facilitate their life chances and social inclusion thus contributing to an active citizenship within their societal contexts. This collection of chapters dealing with issues of social inclusion of young people represents the first book to explicitly approach the complex interdependencies between adult education, young adults in vulnerable situations and active citizenship from the European perspective. Social exclusion, disengagement and disaffection of young adults have been among the most significant concerns faced by EU member states over the last decade. It has been increasingly recognised by a range of stakeholders that there is a growing number of young people suffering from the various effects of the unstable social, economic and political situations affecting Europe and its neighbouring countries. Young adults who experience different degrees of vulnerability are especially at risk of being excluded and marginalised. Engaging young adults through adult education has been strongly related to addressing the specific needs and requirements that would facilitate their participation in social, economic and civic/political life in their country contexts. Fostering the active citizenship of young people, both directly and indirectly, is an area where many AE programmes overlap, and this has become a core approach to integration. This book considers social, economic and political dimensions of active citizenship, encompassing the development of social competences and social capital, civic and political participation and the skills related to the economy and labour market. The cross-national consideration of the notions of vulnerability, inclusion and active citizenship underpins the complexity of translating these concepts into the national contexts of adult education programmes.
