Book Advanced MOS Device Physics

Download or read book Advanced MOS Device Physics written by Norman Einspruch and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 383 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: VLSI Electronics Microstructure Science, Volume 18: Advanced MOS Device Physics explores several device physics topics related to metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) technology. The emphasis is on physical description, modeling, and technological implications rather than on the formal aspects of device theory. Special attention is paid to the reliability physics of small-geometry MOSFETs. Comprised of eight chapters, this volume begins with a general picture of MOS technology development from the device and processing points of view. The critical issue of hot-carrier effects is discussed, along with the device engineering aspects of this problem; the emerging low-temperature MOS technology; and the problem of latchup in scaled MOS circuits. Several device models that are suitable for use in circuit simulators are also described. The last chapter examines novel electron transport effects observed in ultra-small MOS structures. This book should prove useful to semiconductor engineers involved in different aspects of MOS technology development, as well as for researchers in this field and students of the corresponding disciplines.

The topics of the chapters range from the ASIC business, model, marketing, and development up to its testability, packaging, and quality and reliability. An introductory chapter begins the discussion and tackles the historical perspective and the classification of the ASIC technology. Chapters 2 and 3 cover the business side of the technology as it discusses the market dynamics and marketing strategies. The following chapters focus on the product itself and deal with the design and model and library development. Computer-aided design tools and systems are included in the discussion. Manufacturing and packaging of ASICs are also given attention in the book. Finally, the last three chapters present the application, testability, and reliability of ASIC technology. The text can be of most help to students in the fields of microelectronics, computer technology, and engineering.

Download or read book VLSI Design written by M. Michael Vai and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2000-10 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) has become a necessity rather than a specialization for electrical and computer engineers. While the author used other texts to introduce his students to VLSI design at Northeastern U. (where students griped that VSLI stood for "very long student involvement"), the author saw a need for an up- to-date overview of all VSLI technologies. Chapters 1-7 describe, from a digital circuit engineer's view, basic CMOS design techniques. Subsequent chapters discuss the design process of two projects (as a catalyst to student's own research), testing of VSLI circuits, working principles of physical design automation tools, CAD tools, and parallel processing from VSLI and more conventional views. Include problems without an answer key. Vai is currently with Lincoln Laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Lexington. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR

Book Beam Processing Technologies

Download or read book Beam Processing Technologies written by Norman G. Einspruch and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-12-01 with total page 559 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beam Processing Technologies is a collection of papers that deals with the miniaturization of devices that will be faster, consume less power, and cost less per operation or fabrication. One paper discusses metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) integrated circuit technology including the operation of devices whose lateral and vertical dimensions are scaled down. If the devices' silicon doping profiles are increased by the same scale factor, they can operate on lower voltages and currents, with the same performance. Another paper describes laser beam processing and wafer-scale integration as techniques to increase the number of devices on a silicon chip. Electron beam technologies can be used in many fabrication processes such as in microlithography, selective oxidation, doping, metrology. Ion beam applications depend on the presence of the ion introduced into the device (e.g. implantation doping), on pseudoelastic collisions (e.g. physical sputtering or crystal damage), and on inelastic scattering (e.g. polymer resist exposure). Silicon molecular beam epitaxy (SiMBE) can also grow high-quality layers at low temperature, particularly concerning germanium, especially as reagrds the growth system design and utilization of n- and p-type doping. Chemical beam epitaxy (CBE) is another epitaxial growth technique that can surpass MBE and metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MO-CVD). The collection is suitable chemical engineers, industrial physicists, and researchers whose work involve micro-fabrication and development of integrated circuits.
