Download or read book La Vie La Mort Dix Ans Plus Tard written by Jacques Prince and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2014-02 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book All the Feels Tous les sens written by Marie Carrière and published by University of Alberta. This book was released on 2021-02-26 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All the Feels / Tous les sens presents research into emotion and cognition in Canadian, Indigenous, and Québécois writings in English or French. Affect is both internal and external, private and public; with its fluid boundaries, it represents a productive dimension for literary analysis. The emerging field of affect studies makes vital claims about ethical impulses, social justice, and critical resistance, and thus much is at stake when we adopt affective reading practices. The contributors ask what we can learn from reading contemporary literatures through this lens. Unique and timely, readable and teachable, this collection is a welcome resource for scholars of literature, feminism, philosophy, and transnational studies as well as anyone who yearns to imagine the world differently. Download or read book Redefining Resistance written by Esther Rowlands and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2021-10-18 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of resistance developed here, by Dr Esther Rowlands, consists of a fresh interrogation of the notion of resistance discourse. Here, for the first time, this detailed study of selected, wartime texts produced by Francis Ponge, Benjamin Péret, Henri Michaux and Antonin Artaud, compiled between 1936 and 1946, presents a specific critique of resistance which investigates the possibility for opposition and subversion to take place without direct allusion to the object of resistance. This investigation questions the criteria according to which literature is perceived as being ‘resistant’ and suggests that historical and political referentiality may be deemed retaliative and reactionary, thereby risking replication of the dominant order. The relationship between language and power structures is elucidated through allusion to modern theorists Michel de Certeau, Michel Foucault, Ross Chambers and Françoise Proust. The necessary framework for a study of the poetic voice draws upon aspects of the post-structuralist work of Jacques Derrida and Giles Deleuze, incorporating specific theories expounded by the Surrealist leader, André Breton. The works of the above theorists are foundational to this new critique of poetic discourse which, when applied by Dr Esther Rowlands, to the wartime works of the four named writers, suggests that language itself may be recognised as a locus of resistance. This book is designed to be of interest both to undergraduates and to researchers studying Surrealism, Second World Wartime Literature and Critical Theory.
Download or read book French Individualist Poetry 1686 1760 written by Robert Finch and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 1971-12-15 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This anthology has a double aim: to present a body of poetry, none of it easily available, some of it never before reproduced, and to point up a particular trend, until now nearly lost sight of in the maze of generalizations about eighteenth-century French poetry. This trend, called individualist, in contradistinction to the academic and universalist trends of the century, has been chosen since it is the least known and most original of the three. The individualist poets are avowed moderns, and their attitude toward poetry and their concept of its nature often anticipate attitudes held by our poets of our own time. There has not been available to this point a sufficiently representative body of poems by these poets, a gap that Professors Finch and Joliat have attempts to fill with their anthology. Readers will find the notes to the poems especially useful, since many of them provide out-of-the-way background material and, as well, offer new insights into the poetry of the individualist poets as a group.

Download or read book What is a Language Teacher written by George W. Wilkins and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A cursory consideration of the rather novel theme of the fifth annual Southern Conference on Language Teaching, "What is a Language Teacher?'', might lead one to suspect that the title was used as a catch-all for a variety of topics having little relation to each other or to the theme itself. A careful reading of the papers presented at the Conference, however, will soon dispel any such notion; their variety is merely an indication of the many facets of our profession, and of the many areas of specialization and concern requisite to the successful professional performance of the language teacher . It will be noted that few of the presentations are what could be termed "controversial" in nature. The frankness of exchange, and the honesty in approach to problems of language teaching suggest a unified effort on all levels, and from many different quarters, to achieve our oft-quoted goals: communication and understanding between people . If one were to distill the contents of the papers to a more specific, humanistic theme, perhaps the underlying attitude evidenced here could be characterized as: professional concern. Concern on the part of the teacher for the student; concern on the part of the members of one culture to communicate with members of another culture; concern with effective means of teaching middle- class students in ideal surroundings as well as with teaching students from subcultures within our affluent society; concern with the successful teaching of the four skills as well as with the training of literary scholars. Regretably, not all the papers were available for inclusion in these proceedings. As a final word about "What is a Language Teacher?" it would be appropriate for each of us to reflect upon those teachers we have had whose concern so influenced us that we are now involved in the same type of professional activity iVaya un maestro!
Download or read book Alzheimer s Disease in Contemporary U S Fiction written by Cristina Garrigós and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-07-28 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume seeks to bring readers to a deeper understanding of contemporary cultural and social configurations of Alzheimer’s disease by analyzing 21st-century U.S. novels in which the disease plays a key narrative role. Via analysis of selected works, Garrigós considers how the erasure of memory in a person with Alzheimer’s affects our idea of the identity of that person and their sense of belonging to a group. Starting out from three different types of memory (individual, social and cultural), the study focuses on the narrative strategies that authors use to configure how the disease is perceived and represented. This study is significant not only because of what the texts reveal about those with Alzheimer’s, but also for what they say about us - about the authors and readers who are producing and consuming these texts, about how we see this disease, and what our attitudes to it say about contemporary U.S. society.
