This book was released on 1973 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Information on visual target detection is widely scattered in the literature. The thesis presents a review and a categorization of current literature and provides a general discussion of representative models in the field of visual target detection. A literature research matrix is presented to aid the researcher in locating existing models which meet his requirements. (Author).

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The past few years have witnessed dramatic advances in computational methods for Bayesian inference. As a result, Bayesian approaches to solving a wide variety of problems in data analysis and decision-making have become feasible, and there is currently a growth spurt in the application of Bayesian methods. The purpose of this volume is to present several detailed examples of applications of Bayesian thinking, with an emphasis on the scientific or technological context of the problem being solved. The papers collected here were presented and discussed at a Workshop held at Carnegie-Mellon University, September 29 through October 1, 1991. There are five ma jor articles, each with two discussion pieces and a reply. These articles were invited by us following a public solicitation of abstracts. The problems they address are diverse, but all bear on policy decision-making. Though not part of our original design for the Workshop, that commonality of theme does emphasize the usefulness of Bayesian meth ods in this arena. Along with the invited papers were several additional commentaries of a general nature; the first comment was invited and the remainder grew out of the discussion at the Workshop. In addition there are nine contributed papers, selected from the thirty-four presented at the Workshop, on a variety of applications. This collection of case studies illustrates the ways in which Bayesian methods are being incorporated into statistical practice. The strengths (and limitations) of the approach become apparent through the examples.

Book excerpt: "An important factor in the design of equipment for maximum efficiency of human operation is the design, illumination, and arrangement of visual displays which provide information to the human operator. This report provides a compilation of general human engineering recommendations and presents some of the supporting data which should aid the engineer in providing the most satisfactory visual presentations of information. The report is divided into seven chapters entitled: mechanical indicators, warning devices, cathode-ray tubes and signal coding, printed materials, instrument panel layout, lighting, and visual detection and identification. Liberal use is made of pictorial, graphic, and tabular presentations to illustrate the data and design recommendations. A table of contents, subject index, and a selected bibliography are included as an aid to the user."--Abstract.

Download or read book On the Application and Interpretation of Coherent Motion Detectors written by Charles Paul Gendrich and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 604 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coherent motions are understood to play an important role in enhancing the momentum transport of turbulent wall bounded shear flows, but determining whether or not a coherent motion is present in a given volume of space at a particular time is still a difficult task. Although most detection schemes were developed for use within a specific region above the wall, most are ultimately used throughout the entire boundary layer. Three different probe based algorithms and three different visual detection schemes are applied to combined flow visualization and spanwise vorticity probe data taken in the near wall region and at y/delta of 0.8. Several new performance parameters have been developed, and they are calculated along with most of the commonly used evaluation parameters as functions of detection threshold and Reynolds number or y+. The one to one correspondence between probe based detections and visual detections is also evaluated using two parameters already in common use and a new parameter, P(T, t), which is based on the number of event overlaps as a function of time during an event inner, outer, and mixed variables are used whenever appropriate to scale all results, but only two Reynolds number independent curves are found which describe the outer region response of any detection algorithm as a function of threshold.

Download or read book Theory of Optimal Search written by and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1976-01-20 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, we study theoretical and practical aspects of computing methods for mathematical modelling of nonlinear systems. A number of computing techniques are considered, such as methods of operator approximation with any given accuracy; operator interpolation techniques including a non-Lagrange interpolation; methods of system representation subject to constraints associated with concepts of causality, memory and stationarity; methods of system representation with an accuracy that is the best within a given class of models; methods of covariance matrix estimation;methods for low-rank matrix approximations; hybrid methods based on a combination of iterative procedures and best operator approximation; andmethods for information compression and filtering under condition that a filter model should satisfy restrictions associated with causality and different types of memory. As a result, the book represents a blend of new methods in general computational analysis, and specific, but also generic, techniques for study of systems theory ant its particularbranches, such as optimal filtering and information compression.- Best operator approximation,- Non-Lagrange interpolation,- Generic Karhunen-Loeve transform- Generalised low-rank matrix approximation- Optimal data compression- Optimal nonlinear filtering
